MACHINES OUTILS".

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Descriptive memorandum in support of the Belgian patent application for: "ROTATING RATE CHANGE DEVICE
MACHINES OUTILS "., Formed by Mr. Guillaume R A D E R M A K E R S in Liége,
The present patent relates to a device for changing gear in the rotary direction of machine tools characterized in that on the control shaft of a machine tool or other, are wedged, an element of a clutch device and a certain distance a pinion engaged with a satellite pinion carried by the drive pulley and the latter engaged with a second pinion rotating idle on the shaft but integral with a crown bearing notches in any of which can be inserted and thus immobilize him,
the end of a lock controlled by the longitudinal displacement of a rod driven by an operating handle, which rod also carries a fork intended to control in the longitudinal direction the second element of the clutch device made integral with the driving pulley loose mounted on the shaft of the machine or the like, so as to achieve in a first position of the operating rod the direct engagement of the control pulley with the shaft of the

machine, in a second position of complete disengagement and the stop of the machine shaft, finally in a third position, the locking of the ring gear integral with the toothed pinion rotating idly on the shaft, consequently the immobilization of this pinion , hence due to the presence of the satellite gear, the.
counterclockwise rotation of the pinion wedged on the machine shaft and due to the shaft itself of the machine tool or the like.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings represent, by way of explanation and not by way of limitation, one embodiment of the subject of the present patent.
To this end, fig.I shows a longitudinal section in elevation, along the axis of the control shaft of a machine tool between the two bearings of its fixed headstock, of the gear change device envisioned.
- Fig.2 shows a plan view of the operating handle.
Referring to fig. above, I represents the fixed headstock, 2.and 3 the bearings surmounted by the caps 4 respectively 5, 6 represent the machine shaft and 7 the shaft end receiving for example a mandrel or any other member related to the destination -the machine. One element of the clutch device wedged on the shaft is represented by 8 and the other element by 9, the latter bearing a groove 10 and being made integral with the driving pulley 12 for example by means of a series of screws. such as 13. At 14 is shown an axis fixed internally at 15 for example by threading on the radial face of the hollow-shaped pulley 12 which can slide with the second element 9 of the clutch device on the shaft 6 by the 'Intermediate a nozzle 16 for example bronze.
On this axis 14 rotates a pinion 17 engaged, on the one hand with a pinion 18 wedged on the shaft 6, on the other hand with another pinion 19 rotating idly on the shaft 6. This pinion 19 is joined by a set of screws 20
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to a ring 21 provided at its periphery with notches such as 22, A plate 23 fixed by screws such as 24 to the bearing 3, closes the opening which remained free of the pulley 12 and its periphery serves as a guide at the end in rotation of the inner periphery of said pulley 12.
In the radial face of this plate 23 is formed an opening 25 for the passage of the spout 26 of a latch 27 guided in a groove 28 disposed in the cap 5 of the bearing 3 and in its extension 29 at the upper part of which is a perforation 31 horizontally guiding one of the ends of the rod 30. The upper part of the latch 27 is provided with an oblique or inclined perforation 32 through which the rod 30 is passed.
The latter, in order to cause the movements of the lock 27, comprises the parts 30a, 30c offset from one another and connected to the part 30b of inclination corresponding to the inclination of the perforation 32 of the. lock 27.
On the rod 30 is fixed by screws, an arm 33 in the lower part comprises a fork 34 housed in the groove 10 of the second element 9 of the clutch device.
The other end of the rod 30 is guided horizontally in a groove 35 of the protrusion 36 of the cap 4 and driven by the lever 37 of an operating handle 38 pivoting at 39. For this purpose, the rod 30 has a perforation 30d in which the lever 37 is engaged. The handle 38 is provided with a spring stop 43, one end of which can engage in notches such as 40,41,42 of a fixed sector 44 in order to limit the displacements of the rod 30 in the opening 32 at the locations 30a, 30b, 30c corresponding respectively to a direction of rotation, to the disengagement and to the reverse direction of rotation of the first.
It works as follows:
Referring to fig.I, the device is shown disengaged, that is to say that the shaft 6 is stationary, Indeed, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Driving pulley 12 rotating, drives with it the pinion 17 which rolls on the pinion 18 and on the idler pinion 19 on the shaft 6.
At this moment. handle 38 is in neutral, that is to say in the middle of sector 44 see fig.2 and the lock is raised in the middle of its travel.
If now we push the handle to the left, fully or it stops in the notch 40, the lock 27 is further raised because the part 30c of the rod 30 enters the perforation 32 of the lock by moving. moving to the left which simultaneously causes the declination of the arm 33 and its fork 34 driving the clutch element 9 with the pulley 12.
At this moment the element 9 engages with the element 8 of the shaft 6 and the latter is driven in the same direction of rotation as the driving pulley 12. when it is desired to obtain a movement in the opposite direction of the shaft 6. we will turn the handle 38 @ fully. towards the right to immobilize it in the notch 42 of the sector 44 passing rapidly through the perioy or the disengagement phase described above.
In the envisaged position, the rod 30 has moved back to the right and it is. offset part 30a which penetrates into part 32 of lock 27, forces the latter to descend and engage via its end 26 in any one of the notches 22 of crown 21 which stops at the same time as pinion 19. During this maneuver, the system 9-12 continuing to slide to the right and the pinion 17 rolling on the pinion 19 now fixed, forces the pinion 18 fixed on the shaft 6 to turn in the opposite direction, that is to say in rotating direction opposite to that described previously and consequently also engages shaft 6.
Thus quickly and easily we can switch from one direction of travel to the opposite direction by breaking through the complete disengagement, ie stopping the shaft 6 of the machine.
As shown, the drawing is shown as an example
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
and may include other variations or execution details.
For reasons of simplicity in the presentation of the description and the drawings, the pinions 18 and 19 respectively have 20 and 21 teeth with the same modulus, but the pinion 17 can be designed in two parts comprising a different number of teeth and in engagement. with pinions 18 and 19 of an equally different number of teeth and this depending on the speed of rotation that one wishes to give to one of the gait directions.
