DISPOSITIF DE OIAI7GEMEHT DE VITESSES PaURl ]lAOFlINES-OUTILS,]IA9HI- NES MOTRICES ET, ANALOGUES.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
REVENDICATIONS.

PAURl] lAOFlINES-TOOLS,] IA9HI- NES MOTORS AND, SIMILAR GEAR OIAI7GEMEHT DEVICES.
The present invention relates to a gear changing device which is specially applicable to machine tools but which can also be applied to driving machines and the like. This device, of very simple construction and particularly high efficiency, differs from mechanisms of this type known in that a toothed wheel, receiving its movement from an electric meter for example, actuates, directly or indirectly, satellites, different toothings, carried in an adjustable position support, and capable of actuating, directly or indirectly, an output shaft.
One can imagine different embodiments of this device according to the applications envisaged. According to an advantageous form of the invention, the planet wheels are carried by a plate having on its periphery notches. In number corresponding to that of the satellites, in the 'One of which is housed a retaining member, roller or other, integral with the output shaft or an intermediate shaft, when the desired speed engagement is achieved.
The drawing appended to this brief show in:
Fig.l a schematic plan of a gear change device in its simplest form.
Fig.2 is a broken section through an alternative construction of the gear change device, and Fig.3 is a front view.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In principle, the invention remains, given a toothed wheel 1 (fig.l) mounted on a shaft controlled in an appropriate manner, by an electric motor for example, to be placed in the plane of this wheel 1, so as to be able to to mesh successively with it. toothed wheels 2, of which the shaft of each of them also carries a toothed wheel 3. These wheels 3a, 3b, 3c, 3c, 3e, 3f and 3g, the number of teeth of which is increasing following a determined progression, can successively take a position which will bring them into engagement with an intermediate wheel 4, constantly meshing with an output wheel 5. The speed of this latter wheel will therefore vary depending on whether one or the other of the satellites 3a , 3b .. is brought into engagement with the wheel 4.
As has been said, the means used to bring these satellites into the desired meshing position may vary depending on the applications envisioned. By way of example, an embodiment shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 is described below.
Around a shaft 6 carried sides, a housing 7 can rotate a toothed wheel 1, under the action of a pinion 8 wedged on a shaft 9 passing through one of the flanges of the housing 7 and controlled directly or not by an electric motor, which will be housed in the frame of the lathe for example. The toothed wheel 1 could obviously be controlled by bevel wheels, by a worm and a worm wheel, etc. without departing from the scope of the invention.
The same toothed wheel 1 meshed with a 10 ue 2 wedged cantilever on a shaft 10, carried in a support consisting of a plate 11, capable of receiving a rotational movement around the shaft 6 of the wheel 1. This plate 11, of fork-shaped section, carries a certain number of axes such as 10, - eight in the present case, - on each of which is wedged a toothed wheel or satellite 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3e, 3f, 3g and 3h, of which the number of teeth is increasing according to a determined progression.
On the other hand, around an output shaft 12 carried by the housing 7 can rotate a toothed wheel 4 (4a, 4b) at the same time as can oscillate a cage formed of two flanges 13, which support their free end an intermediate shaft 1 °, on which is wedged a toothed wheel 5 (5a) in engagement with the wheel 4 (4a).
In fact in the present case there is a second set of wheels 4b, 5b, so that the output shaft 12 will rotate at speed (the wheel 4a or 4b depending on a clutch sleeve 15). this shaft 12 and actuated by an appropriate lever, will cause the drive of one or the other of these output wheels.
Finally the intermediate shaft 14 also carries a toothed wheel 16, capable of meshing with one or the other of the planet wheels 3a, 3b ....... depending on whether by maneuvering the plate 11, we will have brought the 'one of these satellites in the meshing position
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
required and that lion ldy will have fixed.
For this purpose, in the embodiment, shown, the plate 11 has at its outer circumference a toothed ring 17, with which can mesh a small pinion, not shown and controlled in a known manner by an operating lever. In addition, the plate 14 has, opposite the ring gear 17, peripheral notches 18a, 18b, 18c, 18d, 18e, 18f, 18g, 18h (Fig.3) corresponding to each of the satellites 3a, 3b ..... carried by this same tray. On the other hand on the intermediate shaft 14 is wedged a roller 19, which when one of the planet wheels is exactly in engagement with the intermediate wheel '16, fits partially into the corresponding notch 18a or 18b .... to the satellite in question. The plate 11 is thus immobilized in the chosen position.
The cage formed by the flanges 13 and their shafts L2 and 14 is subjected to the action of one or more springs, which further ensure 'the stability of the assembly' in the meshing position.
If therefore, given the position of the various members as shown in Fig. 3, it is desired to vary the speed of the output shaft 12, for example to reduce it by one degree in the scale of the speeds provided, we will raise, by appropriate means, the transmission cage 13, as indicated in dotted lines, thus tensioning the aforementioned springs; the roller 19 will thus be released from the corresponding notch 18a and the plate 11 will be released. The latter will be rotated to the left by means of its ring gear 17 so as to bring the satellite 3b to the location of the satellite 3a; the cage 13 is then allowed to lower, the roller 19 of which will fit into the corresponding notch 18b, pressed by the aforementioned spring.
The plate 11 is consequently again immobilized and the engagement of the satellite 3b with the intermediate wheel 16 is ensured. The output shaft 12 will therefore have the desired speed, which, as has been said previously, may still depend on its solidarity with one or the other of the wheels 4a, 4b.
