DÉPOSÉ A L'APPUI D'UNE DEMANDE
DE BREVET D'INVENTION la Société dite : N.V.PHILIPS' GLOEIBAMPENFABRIEKEN Echangeur de chaleur. --------

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY
SUBMITTED IN SUPPORT OF A REQUEST
OF THE PATENT OF INVENTION the Company known as: N.V. PHILIPS 'GLOEIBAMPENFABRIEKEN Heat exchanger. --------
A known heat exchanger has a wall on which is fixed by welding a metal strip folded in a zigzag.
This exchanger presents the danger that, during the welding of the tape to the wall, the material used for the welding obstructs the passage of the open channels towards the wall. As a result of this obstruction, the characteristics of the exchanger produced could differ significantly from those predetermined by the calculation.
The present invention obviates this drawback.
It relates to a heat exchanger which has the particularity that the parts of the metal strip folded in a zigzag fashion and welded to the wall, parts which constitute the limits of the channels open towards the wall, are pressed against each other. In this way, the use of channels open to the wall is dispensed with for heat exchange; heat exchange then takes place only in closed channels on the wall side. This fact must obviously be taken into account in determining the dimensions of the channels. On the other hand, the invention eliminates the danger of total or partial obstruction by the welding of the channels which one would like to use for the heat exchange. The heat exchanger according to the invention can take on various shapes.
Depending on requirements, the wall carrying the zigzag folded tape can be flat or curved. The invention is particularly advantageous when the exchanger takes the form of a hollow part, the outer part of which comprises the heat exchanger elements. In fact, it will often be impossible to obtain in any other way, by sawing, milling., Or a similar operation, channels on the inner wall of such a part. When proceeding according to the invention, it is possible first to give the tape the desired shape and then to weld the folded tape in the hollow part.
This welding does not present any particular difficulties, since it does not require special precautions to avoid the obstruction of one or more channels, by the material used for the welding. In the known heat exchanger described above, this danger increases as the section of the channels decreases.
In addition, the heat exchanger according to the invention has another advantage: it makes it possible to produce particularly narrow channels, for example with a width of 0.5 to 1 mm., And even narrower still, for example. 0.3 mm.

non-limiting, will do well. understand how the invention can be realized, the peculiarities which emerge both e and the design, being, of course, part of the claim @
Fig. 1 shows in section an embodiment of a heat exchanger according to the invention. The metal wall 1 comprises, at its upper part, a metal strip folded in a zigzag fashion and fixed to the wall 1 by means of solder 3. This figure shows the shape of the strip. The file also shows a few channels 4, the end of which facing the wall 1 is closed, as well as a number of channels 5, the open end of which is facing the wall.
From fig. 1 there. As a result, the width a of the channels 4 is notably greater than the width b of the channels 5.
The width of the channels 5 is very small. It is essentially determined by the. distance over which the parts of tape pressed towards each other during manufacture react after removing this pressure. In the immediate vicinity of the wall 1, the tape parts are bent at right angles. This gives rise to hollows 6, which are particularly suitable for retaining the weld. Here are some dimensions as an example. The width a of the channels 4 is 1.2 mm, while the width b of the channels 5 is approximately 0.1 mm. The thickness 6 of the tapes is 0.3 mm, while the height d of the ribs between which the channels are located is 4 mm. about.
Only channels 4 participate in the heat exchange; Channels 5 play no role.
