<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
la ligne II-II de la Fig. 2, et
Fig. 2 est une vue en plan correspondante.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Conveyor device for bar-shaped products.
The subject of the invention is a conveyor device for products in the form of bars.
The transport of such products, for example with a view to removing galvanized tubes from the galvanizing bath, is currently carried out by hand or by means of rotating rollers between which the tubes are introduced which, as a result of the rotation of the rollers, are pulled out of the bath and then are moved upwards by a conveyor.
Hand lifting is relatively slow and therefore expensive, while the roller device has the disadvantage that the tubes can only be transported a distance equal to their own length, as far as is not available, as this is normally the case only with a single roller device. it is also known to use a trolley running on rails,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on which the tubes are fixed and then driven, for example by means of a chain, to the place where the tubes are to be unloaded.
However, with transport installations of this gen-. ,, the trolley must be unhooked, at the unloading station, from the traction chain and, after unloading the tubes, it must be returned to the starting point, either to the hand,. or by its own weight by means of an inclined track, which not only requires special handling, but also a handling team, and causes a certain loss of time. In addition, with known installations of this type, it is essential to attach the tubes to the carriage and then detach them, which is done by hand and further complicates handling.
These drawbacks do not arise with the conveyor device according to the invention, which consists of a trolley coming and going on a single transport path, and pulled by a chain, the transported products being fixed on the trolley for the duration of the transport. . The transport device according to the invention is characterized mainly in that the carriage is attached to an endless chain circulating at constant speed on guide pulleys arranged at the ends of the transport path, by means of a connected rod. the carriage so as to be able to slide transversely with respect to the latter and remaining continuously engaged with the chain, the carriage carrying a gripping mechanism arranged so as to automatically release the transported products.
The invention thus provides an extremely simple conveyor device which requires only a few maneuvers because, in order to actuate this conveyor, it suffices to introduce, by hand or otherwise, the tubes or similar products into the gripping mechanism of the. trolley, after which this trolley is brought, by the chain actuated in any suitable manner, to the unloading station
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
where the products are automatically released by the gripping mechanism, after which the carriage returns to its starting point.
According to the invention, the gripping mechanism advantageously consists of a clamp, the fixed branch of which is formed by a jaw substantially perpendicular to the axis of the transport track, and of which the other branch consists of a or several clamping plates, depending on whether the conveyor is to be used exclusively for the transport of products of invariable dimensions, or for the simultaneous transport of products of different dimensions; in the first case a single large plate is sufficient, while in the other case it is preferable to use several narrow plates placed end to end. The clamping plate or plates are fixed to an axis arranged parallel to the fixed jaw, above the latter, and are urged, for example by a spring, towards the jaw.
To fix the products in the form of bars in the gripping mechanism, it suffices therefore to introduce them between the jaw and the clamping plate, pushing the latter against the action of its spring, which then presses it. against the upper surface of the loaded products, these products no longer being able to slide out of the gripper, being wedged between the fixed jaw and the clamping plate. Automatic release at the unloading station is effected, in accordance with the invention, by means of a lever which is integral with the clamping plate and which, on arrival of the trolley at the station unloading, hits a stop so that the plate lifts and swivels away from the transported products.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows an exemplary embodiment.
On the drawing,
Fig. 1 represents the transport route, in section along @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
line II-II of FIG. 2, and
Fig. 2 is a corresponding plan view.
Fig. 3 shows the front view of the transporter, and
Fig. 4 is a side view of the carriage and a fragment of the track.
The conveyor device shown is intended more particularly to pull galvanized tubes out of the galvanizing bath, and for this reason the transport path is inclined, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2; the inclination facilitates, on the one hand, the exit of the tubes from the bath and makes it possible, on the other hand, for the flow of the liquid metal located inside the tubes.
The transport track consists of two rails 1 suitably supported and connected, for example, by sleepers 2.
In the first part, the longest, of the transport track, the rails are laid in a ramp, while in the last part of the route they descend. Between the rails circulates, in invariable direction, an endless chain 3. At the ends of the track, the chain 3 passes over guide pulleys 4 supported by the crossbars 2 located at these points so as to be able to turn. each in a plane parallel to that of the rail surface.
In addition, at the highest point of the track, the chain passes over two chain wheels 5 and 6 supported by the rails so as to be able to rotate in planes parallel to the rails and perpendicular to the plane of their surface, the wheel 5 being action- born, intermittently, by a control device 7 which may be an electric motor with speed reduction, a transmission or any other suitable device. The chain 3 thus moves parallel to the surface of the rails 1.
To one of the links of the chain 3 is fixed a rising rod 8 surmounted by a T-section head, with the aid of which the chain is connected to a carriage 9 (Figs. 3 and 4) going the çt coming on the rails, the head of the rod 8 being engaged in
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
a T-section groove 10, formed in the lower part of the carriage perpendicular to the direction of movement of the latter, and having a length at least equal to the spacing between the two strands of the chain 3.
Thanks to the described method of connection between the chain 3 and the carriage 9, the carriage can, while the chain travels in invariable direction, follow the chain in both directions, without it being necessary to modify the connection between the chain and the carriage, because the connecting rod 8 slides, at the end points of the transport path, from one end of the groove 10 to the other.
The carriage 9 rolls on the rails 1 by its wheels 11, two of which are journaled on each side of the carriage, at the lower part of the latter. In order to make it impossible for the trolley to overturn, the latter also carries wheels 12 which are engaged below the rails 1.
The tubes or other products in the form of bars, which are intended to be transported, are fixed to the trolley using the gripping mechanism which is integral with the trolley and consists of a jaw 13 (Figs. 3 and 4) perpendicular to the trolley. the direction of movement of the carriage 9, and one or more clamping plates 14 which can pivot in this direction. Above the jaw 13 is fixed a transverse rod 15 carrying at the ends of the tabs 16 directed towards the rear, that is to say in the direction of transport of the products, and carrying an axis 17 on which the clamping plate 14.
The clamping plate 14 is integral with a lever 18 directed upwards, to which is attached one end of a spring 19, the other end of which is attached to a rod 20 fixed to the legs 16. The spring 19 tends to act. pivot the clamping plate 14 towards the jaw 13, to bring it into the clamping position shown in fig. 3 and determined by the
EMI5.1

stops 21 fixed to the transverse rod 15; this position, the lower edge of the plate 14 is located at a short distance from the jaw 13.
In order to fix the bar-shaped products in the gripping mechanism, the bars are introduced from the front, by hand or otherwise, between the jaw 13 and the transverse rod 15, so that the clamping plate 14 pivots towards the rear, against the action of spring 19, and assumes the position shown in broken lines in FIG. 4, in which its lower edge, by pressing on the surface of the bars, clamps them between the plate 14 itself and the jaw 13. The jamming thus produced is further reinforced when, after setting the carriage in motion, the bars or tubes tend to escape from the gripping mechanism, because at the same time they tend to drag the plate 14 with them, which increases the clamping effect exerted by the latter.
At the unloading station of the transported products, or rather at the place where these products must be released from the gripping mechanism 13, 14, there is a stop 22 which is located in the path of the lever 18. When the carriage 9 reaches At this point, the stop 22 rotates the lever 18 in an anti-clockwise direction (Fig. 4) and thus moves the clamping plate 14 away from the bars or tubes transported, so that they are not no longer retained by the gripping mechanism and may be unloaded or fall off on their own.
To support the bars or tubes during transport, consoles 23 flank the rail on the side of the gripping mechanism, so that the bars or tubes can slide on these consoles.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment shown, and modifications can obviously be made to it without departing from its scope. Thus, for example, the transport path can have any longitudinal profile, and the carriage 9 as well as the gripping mechanism can be made and controlled in ways other than that which has been described and shown.
