"ESSOREUSE CENTRIFUGE A MARCHE CONTINUE"
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"CONTINUOUS CENTRIFUGAL SPINNER"
It is known that the continuous dewatering of very hot soluble products, such as amnonic sulfate, sodium nitrate, sugar, etc., has always given rise to a serious drawback, namely the clogging of the openings in the wall. filter of the basket of the wringer, this clogging being due, in large part, to the crystallization of the product as a result of the cooling of the mother liquors in these openings.
The author has already recommended a device enabling this obstacle to be overcome in the case of a centrifugal wringer, in which the movement of the product along the filtering wall of the basket, under the effect of centrifugal force, is controlled. by parallel annular paddles supported by a rotating drum inside the basket.
The present invention relates to a device making it possible to achieve the same aim in the spinners in which the drum arranged inside the filter basket is lined with
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
pallets which are wound helically around this drum and serve to control the movement of the product in the wringing device, thanks to the relative movement of the drum with respect to the basket.
The device according to the invention essentially comprises a sprinkling system rotating with the drum, arranged at the edge of one or more helical paddles thereof and serving to inject a washing substance towards the filtering wall, so as to wash successively. all the points of it.
In addition, the arrangement of the sprinkler system in a housing open towards the filtering wall, provided in the outer edge of the helical paddles or made integral with this edge, makes it possible to always produce watering at points of the filtering wall which are temporarily devoid of product and are therefore bare, a condition outside of which unclogging is not possible.
Other features and advantages of the object of the invention will emerge from the description of an exemplary embodiment, given below by way of demonstration with reference to the appended drawing which shows a view partially in elevation and partially. in longitudinal section, of the mechanism of a wringer according to the invention.
In this drawing, 1 designates the filter basket of the wringer, which may be conical or cylindrical and is mounted, by a flange 2, on the hollow shaft 3 surrounding the shaft 4 supporting the drum 5. The latter is lined with ribs or helical vanes 6 extending to the vicinity of the filter wall 1.
The drum 5 and the basket 1 are driven at slightly different speeds, so that the paddles 6 regulate the rate of advance of the product in the basket.
A watering can device formed of a perforated or slotted tube 7 is arranged at the edge of one or more pallets 6. It can be
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
body therewith, for example having come from the foundry with the edge of these pallets, or it can be fixed in some suitable way to this edge or to the side thereof. The watering can tube is advantageously placed in a housing open towards the filtering wall 1, for example in a groove 8 formed in the edge of the pallets 6.
The pressurized washing fluid, for example water or steam, is brought into the tube 7 through the pipe 9 which is connected to the channel 10 drilled in the shaft 4 and connected to a source of washing fluid * Watering can be continuous or intermittent and has the effect of dissolving crystalline deposits which tend to clog the filter wall 1.
For the dewatering of the sugar, which must be washed and decolorized in the wringer itself, the device of the declogging tubes 7 is added to a device for washing the sugar, the drawing of which shows a mode of arrangement.
The latter device comprises washing tubes, each arranged along one of the helical pallets 6, and extending, preferably parallel to this pallet, over a part of the length thereof. These tubes are placed in the area of smaller diameter of the pallets 6, that is to say near the entrance of the sugar in the wringer, because the washing area of the sugar must leave after it, the place and sufficient time to spin the washed sugar *
These washer tubes, shown at II and 12, are provided with slots or watering holes. They are integral with the drum 5 and rotate with it.
They are placed on the side. of the paddles where the vein of sugar is located at work, and at a sufficient distance from the paddles not to touch the vein of sugar, while sprinkling it closely enough as it moves along the paddle.
If the angle that the generator of the cone of basket 1 makes with the axis of rotation is smaller than the angle of the natural slope of the product, the centrifugal force cannot advance the product, and it is the pallets that push this one; washing tubes
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
should then be on the side of the large base of the cone. If the angle made by the generator of the cone of the basket with the axis is greater than the angle of the natural slope, the centrifugal force alone makes the product advance which is placed on the pallet, from the side, from the top of the cone, and it is also on this side that the washing tubes will be located. It is in this last assumption that the drawing was made.
These washing tubes II and 12 are supplied with washing fluid through the pipes 13 and 14, connected to the channel 15 drilled in the shaft 4.
The channel 15 could communicate with the channel 10, but their separation allows the possible use of different fluids for unclogging the basket and for washing the sugar. This separation also makes it possible to make intermittent if it is deemed useful, for economy for example, the use of the cleaning fluid supplied to the tubes 7, while maintaining the essential continuity of the washing via the tubes 11 and 12.
