<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Machine for working thin blades.
The thin blades, used in planing razors, have so far always been provided, on one or both sides, with the necessary inscriptions, this operation being carried out in a special automatic apparatus before insertion. in the sharpening machine. The inscriptions are applied by means of rubber stamps which have previously been dampened on a stamp soaked in corroding acid. To prevent the corroding acid deposited on the ugly from spreading its corrosive effect - which would lead to an inscription. which as a whole would be blurred and stained - the stamped slides so far fall immediately into a neutralization bath.
After that the slides must be dried again. This is usually done by churning; for this operation, the blades, placed pale-male in a mixture with sawdust, are processed for a certain time in a drum in bowls. During churning, a greater or lesser percentage of the blades are always damaged. Mainly in the case of blades with elongated holes, a significant loss is achieved by breaking. After ba-

re-fitting the blades must again be placed in rows by hand on spindles.
They are then brought, on these spindles, to the feeding device of the sharpening machine, where they are automatically taken from the magazine and deposited, at short intervals, one after the other, on the conveyor belt of the machine. to sharpen.
The work carried out according to the procedure described above is inconvenient and time consuming. In addition, we do a lot of breakage. Overall this process is therefore very expensive. For the mass production of a similar standard article this is a serious drawback.
The object of the invention is to obviate these drawbacks.
The invention is based on the fact that the neutralization of the corroding acid does not have to follow the stamping immediately and, on the other hand, the liquid, which is used for sharpening, can also wash off the quantities of. acid that will adhere to the slide during stamping. Therefore, the invention consists in that the automatic apparatus carrying out the corrosion is mounted on the sharpening machine, so that after stamping the blades arrive, without intermediate storage, individually on the tape dispensing device. conveyor belt of the sharpening machine and are immediately and successively placed there and sharpened.
For this purpose, it is possible to have, between the automatic apparatus carrying out the corrosion and the sharpening machine, a translation channel forming a curve at right angles which deflects the blades, falling in a more or less vertical position, so that 'they arrive in a substantially horizontal position on the conveyor belt of the sharpening machine, which tape also moves horizontally. If necessary, it is possible to interpose, after the translation channel, a pusher device separately gripping the falling blades and moving them forward.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
cer far enough so that they are taken by the belt conveyor.
However, it is also possible, for example, to place, for example, between the device carrying out the corrosion and the conveyor band of the sharpening machine, a cell wheel which receives individually in each cell, the blades falling, in a more or less vertical position. $, of the automatic apparatus carrying out the corrosion, to deposit them again individually on the conveyor belt after having carried out, in spurts; the necessary rotation.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically, seen from the side, examples of execution of the invention.
By the execution according to fig. 1, in the automatic device 1 carrying out the corrosion, the execution of which can be arbitrary, the application of the inscriptions on the blades 2, by stamping by means of a suitable liquid. The blades 2 leave the automatic device carrying out the corruption, in a more or less vertical position. Through a passage 3 describing a curve at right angles, they are deflected so that they stop in a substantially horizontal position at point 21, above the conveyor belt 4 of the sharpening machine. By a suitable device, the front edge of the blade 21 is then drawn downwards.
In the figure one envisages, to. the lower end 5 of the passage, a suction port 6. By this one is sucked in air by means of the pump connected to the pipe 7. As a result, the front end of the blade is drawn towards the low, so that one of the driving rivets of the conveyor tape 4 can be introduced into an orifice for centering the blade. On leaving the dispensing device, the blade falls entirely on the conveyor belt, by which it is led, in the known manner, along the grinding wheels which perform the sharpening.
It may possibly be useful to plan, when
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
loading of the blades 21 on the conveyor 4, again a special advancement device which propels the blades sliding freely downwards, so as to bring them into the suction cone of the nozzles 6. The exemplary embodiment shown shows for this purpose an advancement pulley 9 which, only by its edges, grips the blade 21. The pulley 9 is mounted on rods 10 and is periodically moved in the vertical direction by the lever 11 and the rod 12. This movement is advantageously caused by a roller 14 which rolls over the bosses 15 of one of the end drums 16 of the conveyor belt 4.
The advancement pulley 9 is therefore lifted each time after the propulsion of a blade 21, so that the following blade 22 can slide sufficiently far. Then the pulley 9 is lowered again and possibly pushes this blade 2 2 as far as against the stop 17.
The advancement pulley 9 is engaged by means of the intermediate pulley 18 which is itself set in rotation by the end drum 16. For the exemplary embodiment shown, round belts have been indicated.
The transmission of motion could however also be achieved in any other way.
According to the execution according to fig. 2, the blades fall more or less vertically following the translation corridor 19. Under the mouth of the latter is arranged the cell wheel 20. The cell wheel 20 is set in motion of rotation by an advancing device, which must still be described in more detail, so that each blade 2 which falls, finds a cell 21 open and facing upwards. The cells 21 have a depth such that only half of each blade 3 can be accommodated therein, while the other half extends beyond the periphery of the wheel 20.
The wheel 20 is then set in motion
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
of rotation in spurts and the blades 2 are distributed, at a suitable location, to the conveyor belt 4 of the sharpening machine.
The cell wheel 20 consisted of two discs mounted on the common shaft 22, at a small distance from each other.
The various cells are then formed by notches 21, substantially radial hollowed out in the faces, turned towards one another, of the two discs. We therefore only enter the edges of the blades received. For this embodiment of the cell wheel, the conveyor belt 4 can be located a little below the shaft 22 between the two discs 20. The distribution of the blades by the cell wheel 20 to the belt 4 takes place. then on slats & which are in a substantially horizontal position. The rivets 8 placed on the conveyor 4 engage in the centering openings of the blades and remove the latter from the cell 21 of the wheel 20.
It again appears advisable to provide, at the point where the blades of the cell wheel 20 are placed on the conveyor belt 4, laterally to the latter, suction nozzles 6, by which the blades are attracted towards. the bottom, at least at one of the edges, so that they arrive with certainty in the zone of movement of the driving rivets 8 of the conveyor tape 4, to be gripped and carried away by them. It is useful to control the advancing movement of the cell wheel 20 from the automatic corrosion-performing apparatus, so that each of the blades' 3 which leaves the corrosion-performing device is certain to find a suitable position. cell 21 free on the cell wheel 20.
In the exemplary embodiment shown, the advance is obtained by means of a ratchet 23 which engages a ratchet wheel 24 mounted on the shaft 22. The number of teeth of the ratchet wheel
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
chet of course corresponds to the number of cells 21.
The ratchet 23 is each time advanced by a cam 24, or by a similar device acting, for example on a double lever 25, and, once released, it returns back under the action of the spring 26, after which it s' engages in the following tooth gap.
It is also possible to use, instead of the cell wheel 20, any other dispensing device which grasps the blades in their vertical drop, to deposit them in a more or less horizontal position on the trans- band. carrier 4 of the sharpening machine.
