A cet effet le couvercle est pourvu d'une fente dont les lèvres sont repoussées vers l'extérieur et forment ainsi à la face intérieure de ce couvercle un enfoncement pour un fil doux étamé, dont un bout esconduit sur la surface extérieure du couvercle et pourvu d'une poignée. Par le déplacement d'un soudoir le long du fil l'étain de celui-ci se fond avec l'étain de la tôle étamée et ferme hermétiquement la fente. L'ouverture de la boite est facile, parce que le couvercle est déjà pourvu d'une fente et que le fil ne coupe qu'une couche mince d'étain.
