" Parapluie repliable It
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La fig. 1 représente la baleine réunie à la tige du parapluie, en position de demi-ouverture;
La fig. 2 est une vue en plan correspondant à la fig. 1;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"It folding umbrella
Various forms of construction of collapsible umbrella frames, where the ribs are formed by articulated parallelograms are known. This. form of construction gives rise to difficulties when it comes to maintaining the parallelograms. unfolded in the position of use of the umbrella and give the top of the umbrella the usual downward curved shape. Immobilization devices keeping the ribs in the extended position have already been provided; We also tried to use the cover of the umbrella as a means of stretching. and to maintain the articulated parallelograms in the extended position.
These previously known types of construction have the drawback of being complicated in their assembly by the use of a special immobilization device, or
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
whether the free space below the open umbrella is cluttered, or else, when the umbrella cover is used as a means of immobilization, this covering material undergoes considerable stresses, without being able at the same time to prevent the open umbrella from turning annoyingly upwards, as we know.
The present invention relates to a folding umbrella whose frame consisting of articulated parallelograms which form the ribs thereof is improved in order to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks.
According to the invention, an elastic branch of the external articulated parallelogram is extended outside and at the end of this branch a tensioning element is attached, located below it and articulated on another branch of the parallelogram; while the umbrella is opened, this tensioning element causes the extreme elastic branch to take on a convex shape and thus immobilizes the ribs in the form of parallelograms in their extended position. In addition, the arrangement is such that the articulated junction point, which can rotate around the extreme articulation point of the whale and which joins the tensioning element and a parallelogram branch, is located in the immediate vicinity of said point. of extreme articulation.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the end branch comprises an arm, in which the end of the tensioning element slides during the first part of the extension movement of the parallelogram.
The tensioning element preferably consists of a field placed rod, which is covered by the end branch, first field, then twisted and flat beyond the end point of articulation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In the extension position of the parallelograms, the new umbrella frame assumes, even without being covered with fabric, the shape of a domed roof, usual, so that. the fabric cover, united in the manner known to the whales, is extremely careful. The presence of the tensioning element and the resulting tension of the end branch of the parallelogram have the effect of automatically maintaining the unfolded parallelograms in the extended position, so that no special immobilizing device is necessary.
The presence of the tensioning element below the domed end branch effectively prevents the umbrella from turning upwards.
The appended drawing represents an exemplary embodiment of the invention and for simplicity we have been satisfied with showing a single whale in the form of a parallelogram directed in the radial direction from the stem of the umbrella. The other radially arranged baskets are constructed in exactly the same way. On the drawing :
Fig. 1 represents the whale joined to the umbrella stem, in the half-open position;
Fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 1;
Fig. 3 shows the outer end of the whale in the extended position, in full size.
The umbrella stem. consists of several, for example three, tubes returning one into the other telescopically, of which the tubes 1 and 2 alone are shown in FIG. 1. The inner cross branches 3,4, of the whale are fixed and articulated in the known manner on the one hand on the crown 5 of the umbrella and on the other hand on the socket 6. To the branches 3,4 are attached the other branches 7,8 at the ends of which are united and articulated the branches 9,10. The extreme articulated parallelogram 7,8,9,10 preferably has the shape of a rectangle and the branch 9 comprises an extension 9 'which is twisted by 90 with respect to the. branch 9 placed field. This branches @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
end 9, 9 'is made of an elastic material.
The extreme branch 9 carries at its end a head 11, which is pierced with an eye 12, serving to fix the fabric cover of the umbrella, and which comprises an arm 13 directed downwards and pierced with a hole or a slot . Below the end branch 9, there is a tensioning element 14, which, in the example shown, is a field placed rod, but which could also be a rope, chain or the like. The tensioning element 14 passes into the arm 13 of the head 11 and can move there; it carries at its lower end a transverse pin or lateral stops 15, which, in the position of the whale shown in FIG, 1, rest against the arm 13. In the example shown, the element tensioner 14 is articulated and joined at its upper end at 16 with the branch 10.
The articulation point 16 is at a very small distance from the articulation point 1.7, around which it rotates. All the articulation points are formed in a known manner by rivets, in particular by hollow rivets.
When, by pushing on the sleeve 6, the whale is deployed upwards, the end branch 9 'and the tensioning element 14 retaining their parallel position, approximately until the moment when the position shown in FIG. 1 is reached. If we continue to push the sleeve 6 upwards, the transverse pin 15 of the head 11 comes to rest against the arm 13, so that the distance between the points 15 and 17 decreases, which has the effect of causing the flexion or curvature of the extreme branch 9 ', as shown in FIG. 3. The frame of the umbrella, even without a cover, thus takes the form of a known domed roof.
As the articulation points 17,16 (fig. 3) being completely or almost completely in the position
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
extension, the tension of the extreme arm 9, convex automatically maintains the whale in its extension position. An effort acting from the bottom up on the umbrella. opened and covered with its cover is not able to turn upwards the extreme branch 9 and at the same time the whole whale. Even if it were assumed that this force can be large enough to bend the end branch 9 in the opposite direction, this branch would find a kind of reinforcement support on the tension element 14 placed from the field, which in any case effectively prevents the umbrella to turn around completely.
Since, so that the umbrella is not too heavy, only relatively thin rods can be used for making the parallelogram-shaped ribs, it may happen that the rib in its stretched position tends to shift sideways. To avoid this inconvenience. and to prevent the umbrella from turning over in any position of the whale itself, the whale. is further reinforced or stiffened in the exemplary embodiment shown.
The articulation points 18, 19 on the one hand and the articulation points 20, 21 on the other hand are joined by the additional rods 22,23, visible only in Fig.2. The branches 3 and 7 are thus guided with certainty and held in their position by the double branches 4,22 and 8,23.
The umbrella can be completely folded up simply by lowering the sleeve 6. So that it is possible by this up and down movement of the sleeve 6 to bring the elements of the umbrella rod into each other at the same time, the hole 24 of the sleeve 6 comprises at the bottom a widened, conical portion 25. This widened portion 25 automatically pushes inside the locking pins or spring buttons 26 known per se, which are located at the lower end of the tube 1. , so that the entire umbrella rod folds up telescopically by
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the only closing movement of the sleeve.
Likewise, the complete opening of the umbrella is effected by the single movement of the socket from bottom to top.
