<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"SOCS HOLDER FOR CULTIVATION MACHINES"
In cultivating machines) the coulters or knives are generally fixed to one of the uprights of an articulated parallelogram, which is fixed by its other upright to the frame of the machine $ each ploughshare mount being subjected to the action elastic means which push this amount downward relative to said frame. The parallelogram is supported on the
EMI1.1
ground by 7. ' through a roulette wheel. Paralelogens are relatively heavy and of complicated construction and the inevitable wear and tear of their joints produces play which decreases the stability of the mechanism, so that the coulters can take dangerous deflections.
According to the invention, the known parallelogram is replaced by a coulter-carrying device of simple construction
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and relatively light, while exhibiting great stability.
In the device according to the invention, the share is joined by a support element, to a rod carrying the wheel intended to rest on the ground, which rod is slidably mounted, against the antagonism of elastic means, in a support fixed to the frame of the cultivating machine.
By way of demonstration, one embodiment of the object of the invention is described below, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the device according to the invention, and
Fig. 2 a front elevational view of this device.
The device comprises a support 1 is U-shaped, which is fixed at 2 to the frame 3 of the cultivating machine, p. ex. using bolts. A rod 4, carrying at its lower end the fork 5 of the roller 6, is slidably mounted in openings made in the wings 1a, 1h of the support 1. A spring 7, surrounding the , rod 4 and was supported, on the one hand on the wing 1a and on the other hand on a shoulder B of said rod ,, pushes the latter downwards into the position delimited by a pin 9.
A yoke 10, embracing the rod 4, is wedged thereon using a clamping screw 11 acting on a flat 12 provided on the rod 4. The yoke 10 is assembled, p. ex. using a bolt 13, a curved arm 14 at the end of which is fixed the share (not shown), which can in particular be riveted at 15 to said arm.
To ensure the lateral stability of the share and to prevent the rotation of the rod 4 in its guide, the arm 14 is provided with an extension 16 which engages in a notch of corresponding shape made in the wing 1b. For the same purpose,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
other mechanical means could be used, eg. ex. give rod 4 a square section.
To adjust the position of the roller 6, it suffices to move the yoke 10 on the rod 4. In addition, the position of the share relative to the roller can be adjusted by moving the arm 14 in the yoke 10. To this end end., there can be provided in the extension 16, a series of holes 17 in each of which the bolt 13 can be engaged or else this extension can be provided with a buttonhole in which said bolt can be moved by sliding.
When the roller 6 rolls on the ground, it follows the unevenness of the latter and maintains the suitable depth of penetration of the share into the ground. Passing over obstacles, the roller pushes the rod 4 upwards against the antagonism of the spring 7, while the share follows the movements of the roller. Any soil that can attach to it is removed by a squeegee 18.
The arm 14 can be locked in position in the yoke 10.
One could possibly allow a certain angular movement of the arm relative to the yoke, to make possible a certain raising of the share relative to the wheel 6, by arranging resistant elastic means between the extension 16 and the bottom of the notch made. in wing 1b.
Although the guiding of the rod 4 is rational and little subject to wear, it is possible to provide reinforcements 19, 20 of the wings 1a, 1b, to constitute bearings with a greater range, to which one could, if desired, apply lubricators. It will be understood that, without departing from the spirit of the invention, the construction and arrangement of various elements of the device described above and shown by way of example could be modified.
