Les figs 1 à 3 montrent une brosse dans laquelle le denti- frioe est propulsé par un poussoir à ressort;
Les figs 4 èt 5 représentent une brosse dans laquelle le pous- soir agit sur une membrane en caoutchouc;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Dental brushes with liquid toothpaste reservoir and automatic dispensing.
The invention relates to various embodiments of dental brushes with a liquid toothpaste reservoir for automatic distribution to the bristles of the brush, eliminating the separate use of toothpaste (paste or liquid) liable to be soiled or to lose its qualities. by frequent exposure to air, and allowing easy exchange of the brush itself when desired.
According to the invention, a compact hygienic brush is obtained which contributes to the preservation of the toothpaste and to its perfectly dosed flow.
Figures 1 to 3 show a brush in which the toothpaste is propelled by a spring plunger;
Figures 4 and 5 show a brush in which the pusher acts on a rubber membrane;

FIGS. 6 to 9 show an embodiment of a brush, the toothpaste of which is contained in an ampoule which is subjected to drilling by fitting the pusher;
Figs 10 and 11 show the adaptation of a safety shutter to the embodiment of Figs 6 to 9; simple gravity
Figures 12 and 13 represent a pump system, toothpaste Figures 14 and 16 show a simplified system operating by
Referring to figs 1 to 3, 5 is a hollow handle forming a reservoir, 2 a flow duct joining the handle to the brush body 1.
The duct 2 extends in the body 1 to channel the toothpaste through orifices 1 ', to the interior of the brushes S.
A connector 5 joins the duct 2 to the handle 5 and has an orifice 9 which is normally closed by a ball 10 and a spring 11 bearing on the end of the duct 2.
The opposite end of the handle 5 is provided with a piston 12, the rod 13 of which passes through the bottom of the handle to be fixed to a pusher 14 by a screw 15. The pusher 14 is a sleeve which slides on the handle. by simply pushing it with a finger. It is returned to its rest position by a spring 16.
By actuating the pusher 14, the toothpaste is under pressure and drives out the ball 10 to flow into the conduit 2 and to spread by capillary action in the bristles of the brush.
The amount of toothpaste which always flows equal to each pressure varies with the number of strokes imposed on the pusher.
The reservoir 5 is removable and can be filled by the user.
According to FIGS. 4 and 5, the brush operates with a push button in the form of a button 14, 14 'sliding in a fixed cap 17 and pressing on a rubber membrane 18 serving as a spring and forming the bottom of the reservoir.
5 is the reservoir handle extended from the duct 2, with elastic sleeve 2 ', which extends to the inside of the brush 1 to distribute the toothpaste to the bristles through orifices 1'; opposite the bristles is provided a rubber pad 19

form a massager for the / gums. As a result, two essential accessories for dental treatment are available in a single device, which can be used alternately by simply turning the brush over.
According to figs e to 9, the embodiment consists in placing an ampoule of toothpaste in the handle 5, and unblocking this ampoule by screwing at the end of the handle a stopper which contains the pusher 14 and the rubber membrane 18. In this same cap, and serving as a seat for the membrane 18, is a punch 19 perforated to allow pressure to be exerted on the toothpaste when the ampoule is perforated.
The closure of this ampoule may consist of a plastic material A 'which can easily be penetrated. The opposite end of the ampoule is also blocked by a drop of plastic, celluloid, gelatin, paraffin, etc. Before placing ampoule A in the handle 5, its end or spout 20 is broken.
The liquid is dispensed into the brush 1 only if the pusher 14 is actuated. It is effected by a duct 21, the recess 22 of the brush tail 23 connected to the handle 5, the two-threaded screw 24 and 25 for mounting the brush, the duct 26 of the brush and the ducts 27 lead to the silks.
Although the flow of toothpaste cannot occur by simple gravity, any flow or seepage by capillary action is remedied by providing a safety system which completely closes the duct 21 after each use of the brush.
The end 28 of the handle being cylindrical, it is covered with a sleeve 29 which has a perforation 30 offset with respect to the orifice of the duct 21. This sleeve 29 is provided with a slot 31 and the end 28 d a lug 32 so that the parts 28 and 29 are linked together while leaving the socket 29 the possibility of moving in rotation to match the orifices 21 and 30 ensuring the flow. of liquid, or shift them to determine a plug and stop the flow.
The assembly of the handle 5 with the brush tail 23 takes place
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
by lugs 33 which fit into grooves 34, while the end 28 and its sleeve 29 enter the central hole 35.
This safety assembly combined with the end 23 of the handle and the double-threaded connecting screw 24, 25 makes it possible to reduce the importance of the brush 1 and to exchange only the brush head when it is. worn out.
Figs 10 and 11 show a modified embodiment of the system shown in Figs 6 to 9. The lower part of the handle is in the form of a plug 36 screwed into the handle, it is perforated at 37 throughout its length and ends, internally with ' a needle 38. The ampoule containing the toothpaste is then unblocked at both ends at the same time by screwing the cap, these ends being sealed with an easily penetrable plastic material. When the pusher 14 is actuated, the pressure is exerted on the liquid which passes through the conduit 37 to end at the bristles. In this embodiment, the safety system is obtained by a pin 39 drilled at 39 'moving transversely in the slide 39 "and limited in its right and left movements by a notch 40 and a stop 41.
According to figs 12 and 13 we have. shown another embodiment in which the handle 5 acts as an ejector, functioning as a pump which delivers the toothpaste in just sufficient quantity to the proximity of the bristles of the brush.
This handle ends with a piston 42 with orifice 43 moved in a pump body 44. The piston is guided by a ring 45 forming a stop and a groove 46 cooperating with a stop 47. The groove ends at its upper part. by a notch 48. The pump body 44 has a chamber 49 and a duct 50 communicating with the interior of the brush by a hollow screw 51 serving to connect this brush to the handle 5. The filling takes place when the handle is pushed to stroke end in chamber 49 and that the orifices 43 and 50 have been offset by the rotation of the handle in the body 44 and that it is blocked by the stop 47 in the notch 48. The stopper 52 is removed and left subsist one

certain vacuum in the tank.
By pulling the handle 5, an air suction is determined through the holes of the brush, the hollow screw 51, the duct 50 and the chamber 49. As the sections of the orifice 43 and of the duct 50 are different the air contained. in chamber 49 is returned to the reservoir when the handle is pushed and liquid flows, finally propelled by the complete descent of the piston.
According to fig 14, the brush comprises a main body 53 serving to join the brush 1 to the handle 5. The essential feature consists in that the handle consists of a glass tube or ampoule supplied in the market with the toothpaste to be used. . When the bulb is empty, it can be thrown away because of its cheap cost. The end of the bulb entering the ferrule 53 can be closed by a plastic material easy to unblock or closed to be made inviolable and provided with an orifice to unblock. It still carries an orifice 54, plugged on delivery of the stack and easily opened.
In the body 53 is made an orifice 55 which covers a movable ring 56 itself provided with a hole 57,
When the bulb 5 is inserted into the body 53, the opening 54 of the bulb must correspond with the hole 55. By bringing the orifice 57 of the ring 56 into correspondence with the holes 54 and 55, the air enters the bulb and the toothpaste can flow through duct 2 to the bristles of the brush. There is also an offset between the duct 2 and that of the brush in order to be able, by simple rotation of the brush in the rod of the body 53, to intercept any flow when the brush is not in use. The bulb can be graduated if desired and the ring 56 can be omitted by only involving the orifice of the bulb and that of the body 53.
