" Perfectionnements aux distributeurs d'alimenta-
tion de fluide sous pression ".

<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

tion of pressurized fluid ".
. The invention relates to brake devices in which the pressure in the member (s) served is adjusted as a function of the load on the vehipule.
Apparatuses have already been proposed which regulate the admission or exhaust of a pressurized fluid to one or more brake cylinders of a vehicle and automatically maintaining a determined pressure in the apparatuses served by means of members such as pistons. , diaphragms or valves.
According to the main feature of the invention, the pressurized fluid is admitted to the control device
to perform an additional control by means of a relay valve, the action of which is automatically regulated by a member actuated directly by variations in the load of the vehicle.
According to another feature of the invention, said relay valve communicates with another so-called transfer valve comprising several chambers separated by diaphragms, pistons or devices having a similar function, including:
at least one is always subjected to a pressure corresponding to the position of the brake control member through a distributor (for example, a triple valve); at least one communicates with the relay valve; at least one constantly communicates with the atmosphere; at least one communicates with the brake cylinder and at least one communicates with the main line.
The pressures of these chambers act on the diaphragms or the like integral with a mobile unit which actuates a shut-off device regulating the admission of fluid to the brake cylinder according to a regime imposed by the position of the moving members of the relay valve.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the relay valve is subjected to the action of a lever, the movement of which is controlled by the variations in position of the body or body of the vehicle relative to the bogies or carrying axles.
According to a particular embodiment, the apparatus according to the invention comprises a member which reacts according to the load of the vehicle, a relay valve whose position corresponds to the load of the vehicle, a transfer valve with several compensating chambers, a triple valve with its auxiliary reservoir connected, on the one hand, to the automatic line and, on the other hand, to the transfer valve via a reservoir, the transfer valve being connected, on the other hand, to the main line through another reservoir, a brake cylinder being connected to the transfer valve and to the relay valve.
The invention will be described, by way of example, in no way limiting, with reference to the appended drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a schematic view of the brake equipment according to the invention with a cross-section of the members ensuring the command and control of the brake. Figure 2 is an elevational view of a preferred embodiment of the control of a relay valve as a function of the vehicle load and shown schematically in Figure 1.
In FIG. 1, it can be seen that the brake equipment of a vehicle comprises a main line 1 and an automatic line 3, respectively connected to the other vehicles and to the source of fluid by coupling hoses 3. The well-known type of insulation 4 completes the devices for connecting to other vehicles in conduits 1 and 2.
The main pipe 1 is connected, by a pipe 5, provided with a check valve 6, to a relay tank 7. The automatic pipe 2, is connected, by a pipe 8, provided with an isolation valve 9 , to a distributor 10, shown, only by way of example, for a triple valve associated, on the one hand, with an auxiliary reservoir 11 and, on the other hand, with an expansion reservoir 12. The reservoirs 7 and 12 are connected to a transfer valve 13 by conduits 14 and 15 respectively.
The valve 13 is divided into four chambers 16, 17, 18 and 19 by diaphragms 20, 21 and 22.
These diaphragms are connected to each other by a connecting piece 23 such that the chambers 16, 17 and 18 are completely isolated from each other. The chamber 18, on the other hand, can be placed in communication with the chamber 19 by an exhaust valve 24 integral with an intake valve 25 subjected to the force of a spring 26. The intake valve 25 can thus subdivide the chamber 19 into two compartments 27 and 28.
The ducts 14 and 15 mentioned above lead respectively to compartment 28 of chamber 19 and to the

relay valve 30 subject to control of the vehicle load and which will be described in detail later. To this same relay valve are connected by means of a pipe 31 equipped with an isolation valve 32, on the one hand, the brake cylinder 33, and on the other hand, the compartment 27 of the chamber.

atmosphere through orifices 34 and 35.
The relay valve 30 comprises two chambers 36 and 37. The chamber 36 is equipped with a hollow piston 38 provided with a

on the other hand, to the antagonistic force of a spring 41. The upper part of the chamber 36 is constantly in communication with the atmosphere through orifices 42 and 43. The hollow part of the piston can be closed by a valve or exhaust valve 44 connected to an intake valve 45 subjected to the force of a spring 46; these two organs are located in the chamber 37. The valve 45 controls the communi-cation between the chambers 36 and 37.
The valve 30 is fixed, for example, on the bogie of a vehicle as well as the lever 40 for controlling the brake depending on the load of the vehicle. This lever is provided with a fulcrum (see also FIG. 2) 46 and receives the force corresponding to the load at a point 47; the force is then transmitted to the end 48 which presses, as indicated previously, on the piston 38 of the valve 13. An antagonist spring 49, calibrated so that its force corresponds to the maximum load limits, avoids the deterioration of the valve
30 as a result of accidental overload.
The operation of the device is as follows:
It will be noted first of all that the cylinder 12 behaves in any case like a real brake cylinder of the normal compressed air type, that is to say not controlled by an independent variable.
When the brakes are to be applied, the auxiliary reservoir 11 feeds through the triple valve 10, in the well-known manner, the reservoir 12 and the chamber 16 which communicates with this reservoir via the pipe 15. Conversely when loosening, still by means of the triple valve, the chamber 16 and the reservoir 12 are emptied to the atmosphere and the auxiliary reservoir 11 replenished. The chamber 16 will therefore always be subjected to a pressure corresponding to the position of the brake control member, for example to that of the mechanic's valve.
Now suppose that we want to brake, the vehicle not being loaded: the air in the main pipe 1 supplies air to the relay tank 7 and the compartment 28 of the chamber 19.
The intake valve 25 being lowered as a result of the thrust of the connecting piece 23 of the diaphragms (the diaphragm 20 is lowered by the pressure prevailing in the chamber 16), the air passes into the compartment 27 of the diaphragm.

brake cylinder 33 and / on the other hand, in the chamber 37. The vehicle is not loaded, the piston 38 is, due to the force exerted by the springs 41 and 46, in a position 'in which the exhaust valve 44 still closes the venting of the part of the chamber 36 located under the piston 38 while maintaining a certain opening of the supply valve 45, which controls the communication between the chambers 37 and 36 The duct 29 then allows a certain quantity of air to pass into the chamber 17, the diaphragm 21 of which acts on the position of the connecting piece 23 under the control of the pressure prevailing in the chamber 16.
It is easy to understand that when the vehicle is loaded
<EMI ID = 5.1>
valve 30 downwards, increasing the air intake into chamber 17 in proportion to the load.
Since, on the other hand, the relative sections of the diaphragms of the valve 13 are determined to respond to the pressure differences, it can be seen that the supply to the brake cylinder is well controlled by the load.
Conversely, to release the brakes, the chamber 16, being vented to the atmosphere as explained above, ceases to act on the part 23 and there comes a time when, despite the pressure existing in the chamber 17 , the cla-

of the brake cylinder 33 and of the chamber 17. Then, when the chamber 16 is completely emptied, the exhaust valve 24 will establish communication between the compartment 27
