Braking installation comprising an apparatus for controlling the intake and exhaust of pressurized fluid to at least one vehicle brake cylinder. We already know (braking installations with control apparatus for the admission and exhaust of a pressurized fluid to one or more apparatus cylinders (the brake for railway vehicles or others in combination with members such as pistons or diaphragms and valves to automatically maintain a <B> determined </B> pressure in the appliance (s) served.
The invention relates to an installation of the aforementioned type, that is to say to a braking installation comprising an apparatus for controlling the admission and the exhaust of a pressurized fluid to at least one cylinder. vehicle brake and in which the brake pressure is. automatically adjusted according to the vehicle load. This installation is characterized, according to the invention, by an auxiliary relay valve, the action of which is automatically regulated by a member on which a force constantly acts which varies as a function of the load, independently of the intensity of the braking.
According to a practical embodiment of the invention, the relay valve is controlled by a member whose displacement depends on the deformation of the springs of the vehicle.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the installation according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic view of the braking installation, of which the control valve and the relay valve are shown in section; Fig. 2 is a schematic view showing the control devices of the relay valve.
In fig. 1 and 2 of the drawing, it can be seen that the braking installation comprises a control valve 6 which controls the admission of the fluid under pressure from a reservoir 4 to a brake eyeliner 15 and its exhaust from this cylinder under the control of the admitted pressure of a reservoir 1 by a distributor 2. As can be seen, the distributor 2 is made in the form of a triple valve controlled by the pressure of the general pipe 3, but in the case of a Direct-drive brake equipment The function of the triple valve can be accomplished by the mechanic's cock or equivalent.
The body of the valve 6 is divided into four compartments 29, 7, 16 and 17 by flexible diaphragms 9, 10 and 11.
The compartments 7, 16 and 17 are subject respectively: the compartment 7 to the pressure of the fluid admitted from the triple valve 2, the compartment 16 to. atmospheric pressure and the compartment 17 to the pressure of the brake cylinder 15. The diaphragms control in a known manner an exhaust valve 13 and a valve. of admission 14.
The triple valve 2 communicates with the compartment 7 of the control valve 6 via the lines 34 and 30 and with the relay valve 40 via the lines 34 and 31, while the relay valve 40 communicates with the compartment 29 via a line 32.
The pressure in the compartment 29 -est regulated by the relay valve 40, the construction and operation of which will be described.
The body of the valve 40 carries tabs 41 for fixing it to the frame 42 of the vehicle and the lower part of the body 40 constitutes a cylinder containing a piston 43, the rod 44 of which is directed downwards. The piston 43 has an opening 45 communicating through a transverse duct 46 with an annular groove 47 formed in the piston and which constantly communicates with the atmosphere sphere through orifices 48. The opening 45 cooperates with an exhaust valve 49 forming body with the lower part of the rod 50 of a plunger 51 contained in the upper part of the body 41> and the upper end of the rod 50 has a bulge constituting an intake valve 52 cooperating with an intake orifice 53.
An adjustment spring 54 is interposed between the upper face of the plunger 51 and a threaded plug 55 which is screwed into the upper end of the body 40 of the relay valve and is fixed there by a nut 56.
As seen in fig. 2, the lower end of the rod 44 is hinged to the upper end of a link 57, the lower end of which is hinged to one end of a: horizontal lever 58. The opposite end of the rod 58 is articulated as indicated at 59 to a support 60 fixed to the frame of the vehicle. An intermediate point 61 of the lever 58 is connected by a hand 62 to the free end of a support spring 63 of the vehicle.
It is obvious that a pressure will be exerted upwards on the rod 44 of the piston 43 of the relay valve 40 and this pressure is directly proportional to the dead weight of the vehicle and to its load.
The relay valve 40 operates as follows: In the position that the components occupy in the drawings, the control valve 6 is in a position corresponding to the brakes applied, the valve 14 is detached and the valve 13 is stuck on its seat . The upward thrust on the piston 43, corresponding to the weight of the unloaded vehicle, is balanced by the thrust in the opposite direction of the adjustable spring 54 transmitted to the piston 43 by the rod 50. Under these conditions, the valve 49 escapes. ment is kept closed and the orifice 53 of the inlet valve 52 open and thus the pressurized fluid admitted from the triple valve 2 passes through the pipes 34 and 31 and the open orifice 53 in the pipe 32 and from there into compartment 29 of valve 6.
As soon as the pressure in the compartment 29 exerted on the upper face of the piston 43, assumes a value sufficient to overcome. with the help of the spring 54, the thrust upwards, on the piston 43 due to the load of the vehicle, the piston 43 is lowered as well as the plunger 51 which closes the valve 52 and cuts off the admission of fluid to the compartment 29.
If the vehicle is empty, it is obvious that the fluid from the beginning of its transmission to, the line 31 will immediately cause the lowering of the piston 43 and the plunger 51 which will close the valve 52 and then open the valve 49 :
thus communication will be established between line 32 and the atmosphere through lines 45, 46 and 47 and the pressure in compartment 29 will be substantially at atmospheric pressure. On the other hand, when the vehicle is loaded, the lowering of the piston 43 to close the valve 52 so as to limit the pressure in the compartment 29 will not occur as long as this pressure does not correspond to. the vehicle load.
When the vehicle is fully loaded, the piston 43 remains in the position shown for all values of the braking pressure, while when the vehicle is partially loaded the pressure in the compartment 29 rises to a value corresponding to the brake pressure. load and then an increase in the pressure of the fluid admitted from the triple valve 2 to the control valve 6, the relay valve 40 will no longer cause an increase in the pressure in the compartment 29.
The relay valve 40 regulating the intensity of the braking in relation to the load can be combined with a control device regulating the intensity of the braking in relation to the speed of the vehicle and this device will then preferably be inserted in the pipe 34 particularly in the case where the braking equipment of the wheels of the vehicle comprises a direct air brake line.
