<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 est une coupe longitudinale et
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Vehicle headlight tiltable from the driver's seat.
It is known to render the illumination of automobile headlights non-glare by tilting the headlight. We have already used for these headlights a bolt fixed to the headlight housing, which limits the inclination of the reflector and which can be moved from the outside to adjust the amplitude of the inclination according to the chosen method of attachment of the headlight to the vehicle. The correct amount of tilt is found by trial and error, screwing and unscrewing the bolt, and the number of possible tiltings is arbitrary within the limits set by the length of the bolt.

According to the invention, the stop is adjustable so that it can take only a limited number of predetermined positions so that there is a choice between various defined degrees of inclination. This arrangement has the advantage that the headlight can be given different inclinations by means of the same device controlling the inclination, for example an electromagnet. In this way, for example for glare-free lighting on major communication roads whose width allows less severity in the anti-glare measures than on ordinary roads, the inclination of the headlight can be smaller, and for non-glare lighting on ordinary roads the inclination may be greater.
The appended drawing represents an exemplary embodiment of the invention. On the drawing
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section and
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side view showing the handle turned.
In a housing 1 is arranged a parabolic reflector 2 which can be tilted about an axis 4 by means of an electromagnet 3. In the rest position shown, the reflector 2 is held by the force of two springs 5 and 6 which act on an arm 7 rigidly fixed to the reflector.
The spring 5 bears against a support 8 rigidly fixed to the housing 1 and the spring 6 bears against a washer 10 adapted to the movable core 9 of the electromagnet.
The inclination of the reflector 2 is limited by a nut 11 which is screwed onto one end of a rod 12 housed in the housing 1 and with which an arm 13 adapted to the reflector 2 can cooperate. On the other end @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the rod 12, protruding from the housing 1, is hinged a lever 14. A coil spring 15 tends to attract the rod 12 inside the housing 1, so that a surface 16 of the lever 14 presses firmly against it. the outer wall of the housing 1.
For the illustrated rest position of the reflector 2, the headlight produces the lighting from a distance. When the electromagnet 3 is switched on by means of a switch located near the driver's seat, the core 9 of the electromagnet 3 is attracted, so that the washer 10 moves away from the electromagnet 3. The tension of the spring 6 increases and therefore the reflector 2 rotates around the axis 4 until the arm 13 abuts against the nut 11. In this position, the headlight produces an inclined light. towards the road, which serves as non-glare lighting on ordinary roads.
Such a sharp inclination of the headlight light is not required for glare-free illumination on highways of major communications or autostrades, which are wider than ordinary roads, so that the danger of glare does not occur. is not as large as when crossing on an ordinary road. Therefore, to drive on these major communication routes, the lever 14 is turned downwards, in the position shown in dotted lines in FIG. 1, where a surface 17 of the lever 14 bears against the housing 1 of the lighthouse. The surface 17 is further away from the axis of rotation of the handle 14 than the surface 16, so that the nut is then located less deeply inside the housing 1 than previously.
Therefore, when the electromagnet 3 is energized, the reflector 1 tilts a little less than for the position of the lever 14, shown.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
shown in solid lines in Fig.l.
Preferably, the headlight is fitted to the vehicle so that the rotational age 4 is not disposed horizontally, but is inclined at a small angle, slightly to the side of the road, namely ' to the right side of the road in countries where you drive on the right and to the left side of the road in countries where you drive on the left.
Further, the end surface 18 of the handle 14 can be shaped so that when the handle is rotated in the position shown in Fig. 2, the surface 18 comes to bear against the housing 1 and thus determines a inclination of the reflector 2, which is small in comparison with the above inclinations corresponding to non-glare lighting. The inclination of the reflector 2 thus produced serves to compensate for a deviation of the light from the headlight, caused by the load of the vehicle. For this position of the lever 14, the light of the headlight of the loaded vehicle is emitted, the electromagnet 3 being switched on, in the same direction as when the vehicle is not loaded and the electromagnet n is not in circuit.
The lighthouse can be fitted with an ordinary single-filament lamp or a non-glare lamp with two filaments of the known type so that, optionally, the non-glare lighting can be produced not by tilting the Nais reflector by switching on the non-glare filament.
So that when mounting the headlight on the vehicle we can adapt 1-'amplitude of inclination of the reflector to the chosen position of the headlight., We can adjust accordingly the position of the nut 11 on the rod 12 and the then lock with a lock nut 19.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
As a variant of the exemplary embodiment shown, it is possible to adopt a construction such that not only the reflector but also the entire headlight tilts.
