BREVET D'INVENTION.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

PATENT.
LIGHTING BODIES FOR ELECTRIC LIGHT SOURCES.
Illuminators for electric light sources provided with an upper reflector in the form of a screen or a shade, directed downwards, with a transparent horizontal closing ring and with partially transparent and partially translucent envelopes joining this ring downwards and arranged at various angles with the light source are already known. These known illuminating bodies, however, complicate the exit or emission of light and cause significant losses by absorption without however entirely eliminating the blindness.
The present invention avoids these drawbacks and in particular virtually eliminates any danger of blindness. Since, moreover, the light rays can reach or pass outside by the shortest possible path and only have to pass through a single glass wall each time, good use is obtained.

light and distribute it evenly or evenly downwards.
These advantages are obtained by combining two conical surfaces with a central surface, which can also be constituted by a cone, in the form of an element attached to the upper screen or shade, the light source occupying approximately the space. center of the junction of the two parts of the illuminating body.
To the upper part is attached a lower part composed of two truncated cones and one. central hollow body, made partly in transparent material and partly in translucent or light diffusing material, the hollow body in translucent material occupying the center, the outer hollow truncated cone being made of translucent material or transparent material and the o8ne intermediate truncated, which unites the inner hollow body with the outer truncated hollow cone, being made of transparent material.
An embodiment of the object of the invention, given by way of example, is shown in the accompanying drawing by a section made through the illuminating body.
To better differentiate transparent cutting surfaces, translucent cutting surfaces; however, only the translucent cut surfaces have been hatched in the usual way, while the transparent cut surfaces are shown without hatching.
The light source consists in the example of an electric bulb 2, the incandescent filament 1 of which is in the plane of the horizontal ring, $ of transparent material, constituting the lower screen of the internal surface of the part. upper, in translucent material, forming a screen or shade 7 of the lighting body. The meeting of the lower part with the upper part is advantageously obtained by a flange 9, and screws or other fasteners.
The lower part consists of a truncated hollow o8ne 4, in translucent material, with which is assembled a truncated hollow cone 5, of lesser height and of lower base angle, from the upper edge of which a

hollow cone 3, made of translucent material, the apex of which is located approximately .. at the height of the base surface of the outer truncated cone and of the central truncated cone. The direction of the points or vertices of the outer truncated cone and of the intermediate truncated cone is therefore opposite to that of the point or vertex of the central cone 3.
While the outer truncated cone 4 ... and the central o8ne 3 are translucent, the intermediate truncated cone 5 is made of transparent material and its wall has a direction such that it envelops the ideal extension of the light source 1 and that it intersects approximately the terminal surfaces of this light source.
The transparent envelopes are advantageously made of glass and the translucent envelopes are, for example, opaline, milky, matt, matt-silky glass or the like.
The drawing shows in some places the path of the light rays, and we can see that the danger of blindness is practically eliminated, and that nevertheless the rays follow the shortest possible path while they do not have in all pointed out only one transparent wall to cross. The central cone, that is to say the hollow cone 3 can, for floor lamps, partly serve as a constituent element of the support.
The reflector 7 of opaline glass or the like, closed by the clear glass 8, reflects down a large part of the upper light without compromising the achieved regularity of the light distribution.
In another embodiment of the invention, the outer truncated cone 4 is made of transparent material and provided with covers of translucent material which, for example, can be made in the form of rings 6. The outer truncated cone 4 can thus be made. made entirely or in part of transparent material and the cover rings 6 of translucent material can cover up to any height the transparent envelope 4, a strong light beam being thus gently deflected downwards.
These cover rings 6 also allow an advantageous or mass production of the outer truncated cane 4 in material.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
transparent, which can, using cover rings 6 of translucent material, make translucent in the form of a glass wall in two layers.
If, as the drawing also indicates, one has, in a manner known per se, recourse, between the horizontal ring 8 and the external truncated cone 4, to a removable assembly, one has the advantage that the cover rings 6 can be easily replaced.
A few different cover rings were therefore sufficient for all the normal dimensions of the luminaires to satisfy the various lighting requirements. With interchangeable rings of this kind, having different sizes and established in translucent material, it is therefore possible to transform the same lighting, at will, into a system with free radiation or with deep radiation. The illuminating bodies are naturally standardized according to determined lamp sizes.
The cone 3 can also be established as a hollow sphere or affect any other hollow shape closing down.
The upper reflecting part 7 can also be made of a completely opaque material. The outer truncated cone 4 may be made of transparent material, of translucent material or partially of transparent material and partially of translucent material, depending on the coverage provided by the rings and the light effects that are desired.
