<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"ELASTIC CLAMPING RING WITH RELEASE" @ The present invention relates to an elastic ring of special construction intended to be placed around a body in order to exert a certain clamping on it and to protect a part of this body against any pressure. Such a tightening ring can be used in particular for tightening a member while leaving part of this member free.
The device forming the subject of the present invention consists of a hollow ring
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in elastic material inside which is housed a relatively rigid segment and substantially affecting the shape of a V.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig.l shows by way of example a cross section of a ring according to the present invention.
Fig.2 is a section along A-A of fig. l.
Figs. 3 and 4 are sections relating to rings of different sections.
Fig. 5 shows a wrist band made in accordance with the present invention.
The device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 consists of a hollow ring 1 made of rubber or other elastic material, the interior cavity 3 of which contains over part of its extent a segment 2 which is relatively rigid and substantially in the form of a V. This segment can be made of a metal elastic, but it can also be constructed from a malleable material such as aluminum or annealed brass, which allows it to be easily deformed to bring it to the suitable profile.
In fig.2 there is shown a ring having a substantially elliptical section. We could also adopt a semi-elliptical section, such as that visible in fig.3 or a circular section as shown in fig. 4.
The elastic ring according to the present invention can be manufactured in any suitable way.
We can for example start from a band of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
unvuloanized rubber that is applied in a mold whose interior cavity has the desired contour for the ring. Segment 2 is placed in the protruding part of the outline and the two longitudinal edges of the rubber band are brought together so as to form a tabular ring. The vulcanization is then carried out and the ring is ready for use.
An alternative embodiment consists in using a mold, the cavity of which has an exactly circular contour, the segment then having the shape of an arc of the same radius. The longitudinal edges having been brought together after placement of the segment, and the whole having been subjected to vulcanization, the metal segment is given the suitable profile by deforming it either by hand or by means of a suitable press.
It is also possible to obtain the clamping ring according to the invention starting from a vulcanized rubber tube. A length of this tube is cut equal to that of the contour of the ring to be obtained and the two ends of this tube are threaded on the two branches of the segment, so that they apply against each other to the top of the segment. The joint is subjected to vulcanization, which welds the two ends of the tube together.
The device which is the object of the invention is capable of multiple applications. It can in particular be used in medical and orthopedic practice to exert a tightening on a limb, while withdrawing a part of the pressure from the pressure. this limb, for example an artery, a vein, a varicose vein, a wound, a duct, etc.
In particular, a ring made according to the invention can be placed around and at the base of the penis.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to exert an elastic pressure on the periphery of this organ while freeing the urethral canal. Such a device can thus be used to promote erection and consequently fertilization.
Likewise, a ring according to the invention can be used as a garter to hold a stocking or a knee-high without compressing the saphenous veins, thus preventing the formation or aggravation of varicose veins.
Whatever the intended application, if the segment is made of a malleable material, the opening angle of this segment can easily be modified to obtain the appropriate clearance or to vary the tightening exerted by the flexible part of the ring.
By way of example, FIG. 5 a wrist band made in accordance with the present invention.
This device comprises a hollow rubber ring 4 which is placed around the wrist and having a protruding part 5 inside which is housed a relatively rigid V-shaped segment. This protruding part has the effect of clearing the artery which is thus protected. against any tightening.
It is understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiments shown, which have been given only by way of example and that detailed modifications can be made to them without departing from the scope of 'invention; in particular, the inner segment could have any angular or rounded profile providing the desired clearance.
