Fige 2 montre, partie en coupe ferticale, une autre réalisation;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
A cet endroit,
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

IMPROVEMENTS TO LAMINERS, IN PARTICULAR THOSE INCLUDING SMALL SECTION CYLINDERS TRA-
VALUE UNDER HIGH PRESSURE.
The invention relates to rolling mills and relates in particular to those comprising rollers of small cross section, in which the rolling work is carried out under high pressure, more especially cold rolling mills and the like **
In arrangements of rolling mills of this type, it has already been proposed, in order to reduce the bending of the working rolls of small cross-section, to support each of these rolls by one or a pair of rolls of considerably larger cross-section, or even by a series of cylinders some of which are of reduced section and others of large section *
The first of these arrangements does not, however, avoid the drawback indicated, in the absence of support for the working rolls in the direction of rolling,
while in the second the reduction in the diameter of the working rolls is limited, finally the third arrangement involves a complex and expensive arrangement.
They all have the disadvantage of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
considerable heating of the organs during labor.
On the other hand it is a known fact that very small adjustment errors can generate profiles and in particular flats which are not strictly correct so that in the finishing passes the polish cannot be obtained throughout the entire surface. laminate width *
The object of the invention is above all to provide a simple arrangement, inexpensive to set up, which makes it possible to reduce to any desired extent the diameter of the working rolls and avoids the heating of the members during rolling.
To this end, in accordance with the invention, recourse is had to, in order to constitute a rolling mill, to a pair of working rolls of the desired diameter, and to a device for supporting each roll, said device essentially comprising an organ or stationary support, with a rigid base, and rolling bodies interposed and moving between this support and the cylinder to be supported, these rolling members successively leaving the space between the cylinder and its support to travel an external path and be reintroduced between the cylinder and its support.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the path taken by the rolling bodies outside the space between the cylinder and its support is organized as a cooler.
According to yet another characteristic of the invention, each working cylinder of small diameter is supported by a pair of cylinders, which are in turn supported by a system of rigid member and of rolling body.
And in order to make it possible in any case to obtain a correct profile and, or a polish across the entire width of the laminates, in particular of the flats, the invention further consists in constituting a support member for the using a rigid part that is practically undeformable and a deformable part on which the associated cylinder rests by means of the bodies

to deform said deformable part of the support member to such an extent that any desired longitudinal profile of the working roll is obtained in its portion in contact with the material being worked.
Other features of the invention will emerge from the more detailed description, which follows, of certain preferred embodiments, of course given only by way of examples, and shown in the appended drawing in which
Fig. 1 is a schematic view, in elevation and cross section, of a first embodiment)
Fig. 2 shows, partly in fertical section, another realization;
Fig 3 shows, in a manner analogous to that of Fig 1, a modification; Fig. 4 also shows an arrangement with intermediate support rolls.
Referring to the pin 1 1 designates the working rolls of small diameter, and 2 designates the support members of each of the rolls 1, these rolls and support members being mounted in the chairs of the stand of the rolling mill of any suitable manner and in itself well known, and so as to allow the distance between the cylinders to be changed.
Each support member 2 comprises, facing its cylinder, a face 5 concentric with the face of the cylinder, and between the face 3 and the cylinder 1 are arranged rolling bodies which, in the example shown, are formed. by rollers 4.
These rollers 4 can reign over the entire length of the cylinder 1 or else over only a part of this length, as shown in fig 2 of the guides 5 then separating the rollers 4, these guides being either constituted by 6rga nes reported as as indicated in this figure, either formed on the support member 2,
During the rotation of the cylinder 1, the bearing bodies 4 move in the interval between this cylinder and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
face 3 while rolling on it, and leave this interval at 6 for the direction of rotation of the cylinders indicated by the arrows *
In this location,
a guide 7 is provided which receives the rolling bodies and is extended by a guide 8 traversing any path to end at 9 at the entrance to the gap between cylinder 1 and faoe 3.
Advantageously, this guide 8 is given a conformation such that it circumvents the support member 2, as has been shown. If the rollers 4 are spaced apart the arrangement of the guide 8 is preferably provided such that each series of rollers 4 is suitably guided in a suitable guide or cage *
FIG. 2 shows such an arrangement, the guides or cages extending around the organ 2.
It will be noted that the rolling bodies in the middle of the cylinder are brought together, even up to contact, the guides or oages then being suitably shaped to meet the installation conditions. We see in the figure that in the example chosen the cages or central guides are oblique to release the head of the pressure screw 13
During the journey between the outlet 7 and the inlet 9, the running gear cools, this cooling being either natural or activated by a liquid which in figure 1 can bathe the member 2 and the lower guide 8 as in 10 and fill or circulate in a cavity of the upper organ 2 as shown in the dotted lines. 0 cooling prevents any marked heating during rolling.
In fig. 2, each support member 2 is provided with an elongated slot 11 which makes part 12 of this member somewhat deformable * A screw 13 with opposing pitch engaged in housings 14 * and 14 'of the member 2 and part 12 or an equivalent device makes it possible to act on this part 12 in order to deform it to the extent necessary to profile the associated cylinder 1 longitudinally.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
As well as it forms part with the member 2, the part 12 could be constituted by an attached part, but nevertheless fixed in a sufficiently rigid manner at both ends to allow only the deformation of the middle portion.
In fig. 3, the face 3 is formed in an attached shell 16 engaged in a suitable housing of the member, 2, this arrangement making it possible, during the grinding of the cylinders, to rectify or replace only the single shell 15.
This shell could in this arrangement play the role of part 12 in the previous arrangement. In this case, it would be fixed to member 2 at its two ends.
In Figure 4, there is provided between a cylinder 1 and its member 2 a pair of intermediate cylinders 18, these cylinders directly supporting the cylinder 1 and being themselves supported by the member 2 with the interposition of members. bearing 4.
The arrangement of these members 4 and of the guide 8 is analogous to that described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, but an additional guide at 17 has been provided for the passage of the gold lines 4 of the. one of cylinders 16 to the other *
The cooling of these rolling elements 4 between the outlet 6 and the inlet 9 considerably reduces the heating of the support rolls 16. It can, as has been indicated for FIG. 1, be activated by a liquid. cooler in which the member 2 and the lower guides 8 would immerse, as in 10, and which would fill or circulate in the cavity 1a,
On the other hand, these cylinders 16 which are themselves suitably supported, may first of all be of smaller diameter than previously,
which is conducive to heat dispersal and avoids the drawback pointed out at the beginning of this memo, and then be established in terms of a much lower cost price than that of which earlier support cylinders had to be made *
Of course we can also in this arrangement
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
provide a deformable part 12 of the members 2 and, in order to form the faoes 3 therein, an attached shell such as the shell 15 of FIG. 3, this shell being able itself to constitute the deformable part 12.
It also goes without saying that other modificatio-ns could be made to the arrangements described without departing from the limits of the invention.
