<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Description de la bobine.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Mechanism to make knots for the manufacture of rush mats."
It is known that the rush mats are formed by a succession of rods of rod joined together by a judicious thread and under conditions such as a knot each time knots one or more rods gathered, the said gathered rod or rods being tightened. one against the other thus offering a surface without solutions of continuity. This continuous surface therefore requires, as an essential condition, that the nodes be as close together as possible, their approximation being determined by the thickness of the rod or rods joined together.
However, at present this knotting work is being done
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
still exclusively by hand.
The present invention consists of a mechanism intended to perform these knots absolutely automatically and continuously. The device, as provided for by the invention, therefore performs a series of movements such that the knot is made and tight; these operations being completed, the machine is armed for the same following operations.
In principle, the invention provides two coils provided with a provision of son connecting them; one of the coils rotates smoothly on a fixed shaft; the other wound and carried by a judicious mechanism. Said mechanism forces the coil, integral with it, to operate a translational movement followed by a rotational movement and finally a second trans movement. lation under conditions such that the knot is tied and tight.
In order to bring out the object of the invention more clearly, a preferred embodiment will be used below, which is given only by way of example and can obviously vary as to: the general shape, dimensions and the materials used.
The device as taken in the example is illustrated in FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 4 attached. in which Figures 1 and 2 are plan and elevational views of the device.
Figs. 3 and 4 are side and elevation views of an interesting detail of the mechanism, in this case the mobile coil integral with the device.
Referring therefore to said figures and taking into account that the same references are applied to them, the mechanism and the movement are understood as follows:
The mechanism comprises a fixed plate 1 in which a movable plate 2 can rotate. The movement of the plate 2 is produced in due time by the rotation of the shaft 3 by means of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the worm 4 and / of the rod 5 The pinion 6 placed at the top of 5, meshes with the circular rack of the plate 2. The whole system of fixed plate 1, movable plate 2 and rod 5 can move along the axis 3 This movement is controlled by an oame the shape of which provides for a stopping time above the worm 4.
The pinion 6 of the upper part 5 controls, by means of a gear 7, another pinion 8 which also engages the rack this to allow the continuation of the movement of the movable plate when the vacuum 10 passes in front of the first pinion. The movable plate carries a spool of thread 9 at its upper part.
Knot formation.
At the start of the movement, the plate-spool system occupies the position indicated in figures 1 and 2 Then the plate-spool system is driven by a forward movement to the left by means of a cam and at the same time the wire of the coil 9 is hooked by a hook 11 which supports it outside and above the plate. This horizontal translational movement ends when the gear 16 is caught in the worm 4. This communicates to the rod 5 rotates and drives the upper plate 2; which drive is produced by the intermediary of the gear 6 and also of the gears 7 and 8. This rotational movement continues until the spool has made one complete revolution.
Then the plate-reel system is driven in a horizontal translational movement to the right which in a way constitutes the return of the mechanism; which return is effected by a cam whose profile has been drawn in anticipation of a downtime. This stopping time is determined by the time taken by the plate 2 to make a complete rotation. At the end of the return run, the cro-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
chet 11, automatically releases the thread and the knot is formed.
Indeed, the examination of figures 1 and 2 makes it possible to realize that the wire, connecting the coils 9 and 13, has previously passed under the rod or rods to be connected. At the start of the movement, the hook gripping the thread 15 as it passes, away from the path of the mechanism. The purpose of the translational movement from right to left of the mechanism is to prepare the eyelet which constitutes the first operation in the making of a knot.
The rotational movement of the plate, during a stopping time of the device, is intended to pass the thread through said eye, which passage is completed by the horizontal left-right return translational movement of the device. The knot being thus formed, there remains the tightening operation which will be described in detail below.
It should be noted, however, that this tightening involves the immobilization of the spool 9 since, in the opposite case, a pull on the wire 15 would have the direct result of unwinding the spool 9 and not of tightening the said spool. wire. 15. In order to overcome these difficulties, the spool 9 comprises a special device intended to automatically wind the thread released after the operation of the return of the device and to immobilize said spool 9 while the knot is being tightened.
Description of the coil.
Figures 3 and 4 give views in profile and in elevation of said coil 9. the latter comprises the actual coil which is idle on the axis 17 but is however connected to it by a spring. spiral 18 which is attached on the one hand to the flange of the coil, on the other hand to the axis 17. This same flange is furnished at its peripheral part with a series of teeth of the roehet wheel teeth type.
The axis 17 which is maintained by two suitable bearings also carries at its end a toothed wheel
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
19 fixed on the axis 17 and kept motionless by the lever 20 supported in the horizontal position by two springs 21 and 22, the tension of which is greater than that of the coil spring 18. On the lower plate 1 is articulated a pawl 23 and held on the outside of the ratchet wheel by a spring 24. The pawl 23 can be engaged in the ratchet wheel by the upward movement of the rod 25 which actuates the elbow lever 26.
Movement of the coil. making the movement of rotation of the upper plate 2 the wire of the spool unwinds causing the rotation of the latter. During this movement the spring 18 is tightened; when the complete turn of the plate is finished, and when the hook 11 releases the thread, 1 excess of the thread is rewound, thanks to the action of the spring 18 which relaxes.
It is now necessary, during the downward movement of the plate-spool system, to prevent the thread from unwinding. This is achieved by the pawl 23 which engages the ratchet wheel: during the downward movement the rod 25 abuts against the part 27; the rod 25 goes up and the pawl engages; the downward movement is continued by compressing the spring 28. It is at. notice that the unwinding movement of the coil is greater than the winding movement. With each turn the spring therefore compresses more than it relaxes.
There will therefore come a time when the spring 18 will be fully tensioned. is then only the lever 20 acts. The continuation of unwinding movements is done as follows with the spring being fully tensioned, the axis 17 is driven which is made possible since the lever 20 can tilt. . when winding along the axis will be kept fixed since the tension of the springs 21 and 22 is greater than that of the spring 18.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Thus, the spool was released and held fixed in due time, it is easy to realize that the tightening of the knot, which was carried out during the preceding operations, must be done in the most efficient manner.
It is understood that the various bodies which have just been described may undergo changes in form and execution.
They have been given only as an example and with the aim of facilitating the understanding of the mechanism forming the subject of the present invention. Likewise, the movement produced by said device can be applied in industries other than that of the manufacture of rush mats.
Indeed, any similar manufacture or requiring the performance of a succession of nodes can make use of this device which is very simple as shown in the description above.
