Dans la conduits des locomotives, il est désirable pour des raisons économiques et sous certaines conditions d'exploitation, que l'injecteur à vapeur d'échappement soit toujours mis en action en même temps que la mise en marche de la locomotive et cela, autant que faire se peut;

@
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
l'oblige impérativement à fonctionner comme in j ecteu r à vap eu r d'échappement.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
effet d'interrompre l'arrivée de vapeur friche à la tuyère, à vapeur fraîche. L'injecteur s'arretre alors automatiquement.
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Starting device intended for exhaust steam injectors mounted on locm @ otives.
In the operation of locomotives, it is desirable for economic reasons and under certain operating conditions, that the exhaust steam injector always be activated at the same time as the starting of the locomotive and that, as much. what can be done;
automatically and operates as long as the regulator is open, If, in this case, the dimensions of the injector are suitable for the special traffic conditions and the size of the locomotive, this device constantly feeds the boiler of Capon corresponding to the consumption of steam without, if the boiler room is working properly, the locomotive personnel are required to adjust
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Carefully check the water level by repeatedly switching the injector on and off.
Devices have already been proposed which make it possible to obtain an automatic starting and stopping of the injector according to the position of the regulator by: the fact that, thanks to a rod extending from the regulator lever, the inlet valve of Fresh steam to the injector is kept open when the regulator is open, while it is closed when the regulator / alfalfa closed, so that the injector operates during the time the locomotive cylinders reek of steam. A valve or a special tap, operated by hand, allows, in this case, the mechanic to interrupt the operation of the injector in the event of overfeeding of the boiler.
With installations of this kind there is also a device by means of which the injector can be used as a fresh steam injector when the locomotive regulator is closed, which is made possible by means of a second specially provided valve, which allows the inlet: the fresh steam passes both to the fresh steam nozzle and to the steam nozzle replacing the exhaust steam which will be referred to hereinafter as the auxiliary steam nozzle. This device, however, runs the risk that the mechanic will use the injector as a fresh steam injector even when the regulator is open although there is exhaust steam available.
In addition, this device offers the drawback that it provides for an imperative mechanical connection between the regulator lever and the fresh steam valve, a connection which requires being in a specific location and takes up space precisely where it needs to be. be spared on the locomotive. This device also requires sealing resulting in continuous monitoring, which is inconvenient for the personnel responsible for its operation.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
However, the invention relates to a device which eliminates these drawbacks and which places the starting and stopping of the injector also dependent on the opening and closing of the regulator, without the need for to resort, however, to an imperative connection between the member serving for the admission of steam into the injector and the regulator lever, which connection entails the drawbacks listed above. With this device is also combined a manually operated starting device which, when the regulator is closed, activates the injector as a fresh steam injector but which, when the regulator is open,
requires it to function as an exhaust vapor injector.
In accordance with the invention and to obtain these results, part of the vapor from the regulator is either forced to pass directly to the fresh vapor nozzle of the exhaust vapor injector and to be fed to it, or controlling a shutter member interposed on the steam path between the boiler and the fresh steam nozzle of the exhaust steam injector. When there is a vapor pressure in the steam box, said shutter member is kept open while, when the pressure disappears in this box, the shutter member closes. From the point of view of construction, the device is independent of the regulator system employed in each case considered.
If the steam from the regulator is supplied directly to the fresh steam nozzle of the injector, a connection is provided according to the invention which runs from the steam outlet pipe in the cylinders of the locomotive to the cylinder. 'exhaust steam injector, connection in which is preferably fitted a check valve which opens in the direction of the flow and which, if operating conditions so require, can be closed at the outlet. hand to stop feeding. A special connecting rod leading to
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the steam inlet member and the sealed system and = Icone mode that it requires can thus be omitted.
These advantages can be obtained with a device in which the pressure prevailing in the steam box controls the switch member connected to the pipe going from the boiler to the fresh steam nozzle of the injector.
The invention further extends to the construction of starting devices of the kind indicated in cooperation with a second starting device which enables the exhaust steam injector to be able also to be used, when the regulator. is closed, as a fresh steam injector, while the operation of this second starting device allows the injector to function only as an exhaust steam injector when the regulator is open.
The description which will follow with reference to the appended drawing given by way of example will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.
Fig. 1 shows, by way of example, a starting device in which a connection goes from the aircraft manifold to the cylinders of the locomotive and leads to the fresh steam nozzle of the exhaust steam injector. passing through an apparatus established according to the invention.
,
The fi & shows a starting device in which the pressure which prevails in the steam box controls the inlet valve in the pipe going from the boiler to the fresh steam nozzle of the injector * @ figure 1, 1 designates the connection which goes from the steam inlet pipe to the locomotive cylinders or the steam box and which opens out under the steam inlet valve 3 provided in the bolte 2 of the starting device. on and by means of which the steam passing through the regulator enters the chamber @
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
and goes through tube 5 to the fresh steam nozzle of the exhaust steam injector Since the regulator is open,
exhaust vapor also arrives at the injector through the tube and the injector functions as injector, exhaust vapor * The water supply can be controlled here either manually or automatically in the known manner, If the regulator is closed, the injector stops automatically, given that then the flow of steam through pipes 1 and 6 ceases.
If, with the regulator closed, the injector is to function as a fresh steam injector, the exhaust steam must be replaced by fresh steam, which is obtained, in the usual way, by the fact that steam choked or relaxed fresh is fed to the auxiliary nozzle of the injector. Pipe 7 constitutes the conduit which leads to the auxiliary steam nozzle of the injector.
Box 2 of the starting device is placed in communication with the boiler via pipe 3 by means of valve 9. The boiler vapepr goes, after opening valve 9, to space 4, closes the valve. valve 3 and arrives, via line 5, at the fresh steam nozzle of the injector. At the same time, fresh steam also passes into chamber 12 and enters through a bb- turator which is operated in a manner known per se, by the pressure of the steam box or by the steam pressure of the regulator, in the pipe? which leads to the auxiliary steam nozzle of the injector.
As a shutter member for the passage of the auxiliary steam, there is provided, for example, a valve 13 which is pressed on its seat by the piston 16 of larger diameter, and blocks the passage of steam to the auxiliary steam nozzle when the regulator is open because then the vapor pressure from the regulator reigns in the chamber 15 and pushes the piston 16 from bottom to top, which maintains the valve
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
closed. What comes from leaks or leaks in the piston 16 is brought through a pipe 17 to the exhaust vapor duct.
Valve 9 should be normally closed and only be used for accidental supply when the regulator is closed.
The device described therefore causes the injector to start up automatically as an exhaust steam injector and to close again depending on whether the regulator opens or closes.
Should the mechanic observe, during operation, an overfeeding of the boiler, he would have the possibility of closing the valve 3 by loosening the stop screw 18 to thus put the injector out of action.
The device therefore offers this particular advantage that, in the event, or for whatever reasons, the mechanic would open the valve 9, even when the regulator is open, the injector would nevertheless function as an exhaust steam injector because the pressure of the steam having passed through the regulator which prevails in the chamber 15 would keep the supply to the exhaust steam nozzle cut off, that is to say would keep the shutter member 13 closed.
As the pressure of the steam having passed through the regulator is however lower than the pressure of the boiler in pipe 8, the valve 3 is kept closed by the pressure of the boiler when the valve 9 is open, while the steam from the boiler passes into chamber 4 and into duct 5 leading to the injector fresh steam nozzle. However, this does not in any way constitute a disadvantage, since it does not matter whether the fresh steam required for the operation of the injector is taken from the inlet pipe in the cylinders or directly from the boiler.
The device also makes it possible to trigger the
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
on and automatic shutdown of the exhaust steam injector by making them dependent on the opening and closing of the regulator, when the stop screw 18 is lowered by screwing and that, consequently, the valve is kept closed permanently.
It is then possibbe

boilers, so that the locomotive which is fitted with this device does not respond, from an economic point of view, exclusively to the special operating conditions in which the automatic switching on and off of the power supply according to opening and closing of the regulator have a specific purpose. 2 shows another example of the

commissioning according to the power supply and applied to an exhaust steam injector.
In this device the

pressure in the steam nozzle controls the inlet valve to the fresh steam nozzle 11. Injector. In this device, there is provided on the boiler a tap 9 from which the steam passes, through the duct 8, into a chamber 21 of the box 2 of the device.

start-up. Duct 1 connects the chamber to the box with the steam supply pipe to the locomotive lines * When the regulator is open, the pressure of the steam box prevails in chamber 4. The valve 19 is pressed against its upper seat and
EMI7.6
flushes the valve 3 from the bottom upwards by means of the sealed rod 22 and the part 23, so that the steam rod of the boiler passes from the chamber 21 into the chamber 24.
From there, the steam arrives through line 5 to the fresh steam nozzle of the injector. If the regulator is closed, the pressure of the steam box disappears in chamber 4, dière, which
EMI7.7
the valve 19 falls and the pressie of the boiler, which reigns in the chamber 2l germinates the valve 3, which has for @
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
effect of interrupting the arrival of wasteland steam to the nozzle, to fresh steam. The injector then stops automatically.
In the event that the regulator is closed, the injector has to be started as a fresh steam injector, this is achieved by means of the reversing screw 25, the valve 9 being open. The reversing screw 25 has a collar 26 which allows, between the stops 27 and 28, a limited movement of downward and upward movement of the screw. The valve 3 is then lifted from its seat by the upper edge of the collar 29 of the screw 25 when the latter is screwed: the bottom up until it presses against the stop 28 by means of the collar 26 The open valve 3 then admits steam from the boiler into chamber 24 and, through pipe 5, into the fresh steam nozzle of
The injector.
As the regulator is closed, the exhaust steam must be replaced with fresh steam in the auxiliary steam nozzle.
The arrival of this auxiliary steam takes place through line 7. As the valve 19 rests on its lower seat and the assembly rod 22 and the part 23, in engagement with it are also pushed downwards, the pad of the drawer 5 ... which conceals the opening 30 in the position shown is pushed downwards because it is obliged by a jaw provided in the part 23 to participate in these movements.
Fresh steam arrives at the auxiliary steam pipe 7 through the opening 30 thus unmasked.
When the regulator is open, the reversal screw 25 being tightened upwards, the steam box pressure comes to reign in the chamber 4 and under the action of the rod 22 and the part 23, the shoe of the drawer 31 angled opposite the opening 30 which prevents the arrival of fresh steam to the auxiliary steam duct 7 and the injector again operates as a steam injector
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
exhaust. The pipe 17 is 1: also in this device, to return to the injector the steam which could have leaked through the valve 19.
Thanks to the two devices described, it is therefore impassive, when the regulator is open, to use the i n. jector as a fresh steam injector, even in the event that the personnel forgot to return the device to the automatic operating position where it depends on the closing and opening of the regulator.
It goes without saying that the exhaust steam injectors employed with a starting device of this kind must include the known device by means of which the passage of the exhaust vapor is automatically intercepted so as to prevent the arrival. of this steam, when operating with auxiliary steam, while the passage from the exhaust steam duct to the exhaust steam nozzle is kept open, when the regulator is open. From the point of view of the invention, it does not matter in which way this automatic control is effected.
