On monte lesdits grains d'orge, soit (fig.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

II improvements to bayonet locking devices II.
The invention relates to bayonet locking devices, that is to say to those in which a cover with folded edges is engaged by projections with barley grains which its edges carry internally with projections carried by the bars. outer side walls of a bottle neck or the like.
Its main purpose is to make such devices such that they are of a more economical construction and that they ensure a more efficient closure than those used hitherto.
It consists mainly, in arranging in such a way, the devices of the type in question :, that, during the rotation to be carried out for closing, the cover is forced to exceed a position for which a maximum elastic closing force is realized and that under the effect of said effort, the cover tightens :) by itself, to go beyond this position, but is then almost immediately stopped by uhe bu-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
ted, in such a way that the elastic force then remaining is sufficient, on the one hand, to ensure the desired tightness and, on the other hand, to apply the cover against the aforesaid stop.
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be dealt with more explicitly below,
It relates more particularly to a certain mode of application as well as certain embodiments of said provisions; and it relates more particularly still, and this as new industrial products, to the devices of the kind in question comprising the application of these same provisions, the special elements and tools specific to their establishment, as well as the bottles, flasks or analogues with similar devices.
And it can, in any case, be clearly understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication.
The figs, 1 and 2, on the one hand, and 3 and 4, on the other hand, of this drawing, show, respectively in elevation and in vertical section, two covers for closing devices, established in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 3 shows, in view from below, the cover represented by FIGS, 1 and 2.
Figs. 6 to 8 show, respectively in elevation, in vertical section according to 7-7 fig. 5 and in plan view, the neck of a container, this neck being suitable for receiving a closure which is also established in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 9, finally, shows, in elevation, the neck of a container, said neck also being established so as to receive a closure established in accordance with the invention.
According to the invention, and more particularly according to that of its modes of application, as well as those of the modes of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
realization of its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, having a bottle and proposing to establish a closure device for said bottle, the procedure is as follows, or the like.
As regards, first of all, the cover a, to be made to comprise said device, it is constituted, for example, by a metal plate with edges turned down at right angles, we have you include, towards the inside , at ses'bords, an appropriate number of projections or barley grains b, for example three, as will be assumed in what follows, advantageously regularly distributed over their entire periphery.
Said barley grains are arranged in such a way that their active lace, that is to say that turned towards the bottom of the stopper, is at least slightly convex, and in particular has a lowering of the surface which constitutes it for the direction going from its highest point towards its end located on the side of the release.
Said barley grains are mounted, either (fig. 1, 2 and 5) by pushing inwardly small parts of the periphery of the aforesaid edges so as to produce, at three points of said periphery, internal projections formed by portions, inclined inward, of the edges of the stopper a. or (fig. 3 and 4) by pushing inwardly small parts of said edges so as to constitute, at three points, internal projections, the face of which facing the bottom of the cover is inclined with respect to the folded edges of the latter, or in any other manner suitable for constituting barley grains of sufficient rigidity separated by elastically deformable zones.
As regards, now, the neck is made to comprise, on its lateral outer walls, projections d which are arranged in such a way that, when the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
cover is placed on said neck, then turned in the closing direction, first of all, the barley grains b, come into contact with the projections d, then said barley grains apply, under their action, the bottom of the lid, of course provided with a suitable filling, against the edges of the neck, then said barley grains ensure an elastic clamping of said bottom against said edges, then, then, said barley grains exceed a position for which the tightening is maximum, then, finally,
the elasticity brought into play during said tightening tending to make the cover rotate even further, a stop intervenes to stop said cover in a position for which the elastic forces brought into play tend to ensure the closure by applying the cover against its stop. this effect4 and more particularly when µ is used.
an elastically deformable cover, the projections d are formed in the form of clean cams, when the cover is moved in the closing direction, first of all, to radially separate the barley grains by deformation of the areas included. between said barley grains, at the same time as they tend to lower the latter to ensure the tightness of the closure, then, or alternatively and preferably to allow said barley grains to elastically approach the center of the cover, or else. to allow said grains of barley to rise slightly, or else to let them perform these two movements at the same time, this, in any case, until, almost immediately, the stop intervenes to stop the rotation of said barley. lid.
Preferably, the active face of the say
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
projections d in such a way that it is inclined with respect to the axis of the neck by an angle of, for example, 60 (fig. 7), that its sections by cylinders coaxial with the neck, are, at least for a portion of its front part, that is to say of its part with which the barley grains come into contact b before passing the highest point of the projections d, of the propeller elements of very low inclination ( fig.
6 and 9), that its sections by planes perpendicular to the axis of the neck are also, at least as regards a portion of its "front" part, spiral elements of increasing radius in the direction of tightening the cover,
EMI5.1
and that finally its "rear" part, that is to say that opposite which comes the culminating point of a barley grain b when it has passed the culmination point of a boss d, pre - feel, either in terms of its cuts by cylinders coaxial with the neck, or in terms of its cuts by planes perpendicular to the axis of said neck, or both in terms of the aforementioned two kinds of cuts, at least a slight re-entrant from the highest point of the @ boss.
Finally, the stop intended to limit the rotation of the cover during closing is formed, in any suitable manner, for example, by providing the neck with at least one boss! can moreover be one of the projections d, arranged so as to be encountered either by a barley grain or by another suitable boss formed by the cover a, when said cover is in the closed position i.e. when the barley grains have passed the highest points of the protrusions d.
As a result, a device is obtained, the operation of which is as follows.
When, the barley grains being brought into contact
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
protrusions.d- by rotation of the cover a, said rotation is continued, the barley grains are pushed outwards tending to give the edges of the cover the quasi-triangular shape indicated in dotted lines in FIG. 5 by elastic deformation of the portions of said edges lying between said barley grains. It is moreover understood that this elastic deformation can be of a certain amplitude, therefore that it avoids blocking and that it allows allow a relatively large tolerance in the establishment of lids and necks, which is a very considerable saving factor.
As the cover continues to rotate, the expansion force exerted on the barley grains ceases to increase then slightly decreases or at least remains constant until the stop occurs.
At this moment, the cover is still elastically deformed and the tightening which results thereby ensures the tightness of the closure at the same time that, by virtue of the shape of the projections d, the stopper tends to remain tight.
. One can see the considerable advantage resulting from the fact that the closure is ensured by the elasticity of the cover and not by friction as occurs in systems with via or bayonet.
As goes without saying, and as is moreover already apparent from what precedes, the invention is in no way limited to that of its. modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts, which have more especially been indicated .; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.
