<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
La modalité de réalisation représentée par le dessin, montre, dans la figure 1, l'instrument conçu pour massage di-. rect par la membrane. La figure 2 montre l'appareil avec le- quel le massage se fait par l'intermédiaire d'un battoir ac- tionné par une membrane et dans lequel existe un dispositif de réfrigération agissant par l'intermédiaire de l'eau sous pression actionnant la membrane, destiné à refroidir les par- ties du corps soumises à massage. conformément à l'invention, la tuyau 1 amenant l'eau sous pression à la membrane est conçu sous forme de poignée de l'ap- pareil ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Massage instrument actuated by pressurized water".
Pressurized water operated massage instruments operate as follows. In one type, the massage by pulsation and vibration of the parts of the body to undergo the treatment is done directly by a membrane; in the other type, the massaging organ is a beater actuated by a membrane.
The massage instrument which is the object of the present invention has, over the two known types, the advantage of allowing massage according to one or the other of the methods.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
above and also to be able to carry out, while the massage process is being carried out, the cooling of the part of the body subjected to the massage, using the pressurized water actuating the membrane or the beater. In addition, the apparatus in accordance with the invention has a very advantageous device, which will be described later, for the inlet and outlet of pressurized water.
The embodiment represented by the drawing shows, in figure 1, the instrument designed for massage di-. rect by the membrane. Figure 2 shows the apparatus with which the massage is effected by means of a beater actuated by a membrane and in which there is a refrigeration device acting by means of the pressurized water actuating the valve. membrane, intended to cool the parts of the body subjected to massage. in accordance with the invention, the pipe 1 supplying the pressurized water to the membrane is designed in the form of a handle of the apparatus;
inside there is a coaxial pipe 2 and of smaller diameter, serving for the entry of water while the space between the pipes, and of annular section, is used for the inlet of the water. 'water, These two pipes are, at the end facing the massage instrument, in relation to one another, so that this assembly wall has the shape of a spherical cap and the pipe interior is open to the exterior The aforementioned assembly partition is pierced with several passages 19.
If, now, above this end in the form of a spherical cap of the two pipes 1 and 2, a membrane 3.1 is folded back, the water coming out of the passages and flowing back through the inner pipe makes it vibrate, then, so that the membrane acts directly as a ball, appendages 3 'in saout- chouc or similar material (represented by the dotted line in FIG. 1) have been provided on it, to which an appropriate shape has been given to the aim which is being pursued. The membrane 3 is attached to the end of the pipe
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
on which it is folded back, as follows.
The end, reinforced accordingly, of the outer pipe 1 carries an outer thread onto which can be screwed a cap nut 14, the bottom of which is pierced with a centered opening in the form of a circle and whose diameter is a little more larger than the outer diameter of the outer pipe and which is sealed at its lower edge, preferably by a packing ring placed on the annular flange of pipe 1.
Before screwing this cap nut, the diaphragm is introduced therein and the clamping ring 15 is introduced into the latter so that the diaphragm is held on the one hand between the clamping ring and the inner wall of the nut. and is held on the other hand on the end of the pipe, this clamping device makes it possible to replace quickly and easily the membrane as well as the ball which is formed on it and hence makes it possible to easily adapt the ball to the objective we are pursuing.
If now we want to use the massaging instrument so that it is not the membrane which is used directly but rather a beater actuated by the membrane and if we want at the same time to cool the membrane. massaged part, there is on the aforementioned cap nut 14, fixing the membrane, the device shown in Figure 2 on a larger scale.
For this purpose, the nut 14 carries on the side facing its bottom, an external thread so that a cap can be screwed on. This cap serves on the one hand as a guide for the support 16 beater itself and on the other hand as a stopper for a bell 18 of rubber or similar material which receives the cooling water and surrounds the beater, A central and bevelled passage of the cap serves to guide the support of the beater 16 and serves as a seat for the spring causing the return of the spring support which on the other hand attaches to a plate provided on the end of the support 16 and taking seat on the membrane.
Thanks to this device, the vibrations of the membrane are transmitted to the support of the beater, at the end of the support opposite the plate
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the special massage members themselves can be screwed on or fixed to them in any other suitable way.
The bell 18, which receives the cooling water, is placed where it is screwed onto the body of the cap 17 via a hollow connection located in the middle of the bell. In addition to the connection in question, two other smaller connections are provided on the bell 18, one of which is for the inlet of water and the other for its discharge. These two little rao.-

the edges of the bell are C omnnmioa-ti on / by means of small tubes, with connectors located on the outer wall of the outer tube 1 below the thread of the nut; only the water supply fitting passes through the outer pipe 1 while the water outlet fitting passes through the space between the outer tube and the inner tube and also the inner pipe 2.
Using this device, the pressurized water can therefore actuate the beater via the membrane and furthermore complete its circuit through the bell,
In this device, the beating unit operates entirely in the water which passes through the bell; this device is particularly suitable, given its combined massaging and cooling action for massaging the heart, in which case the bell must be pushed while the massage is taking place, on the corresponding part of the body.
It goes without saying that the bell can also be supplied with hot water and that the instrument is also suitable for heat treatments.
If the massage instrument is to function as shown in figure 1, that is to say without a beater and without a cooling device, the connections which serve for the circulation of the water must be screwed in fully or closed in another appropriate manner.

The communication of pipes 1 and 2 with the pressurized water pipe is established as follows.
At the end of the outer pipe 1, opposite the membrane, a nut 10 can be screwed which puts one of the ends of an outer tube 9 in communication with the pipe 1. Inside the outer tube are the tubes 7 and 8 serving for the inlet and outlet of pressurized water. The communication of these two tubes with the interior of the pipe 1 and the interior of the pipe 2 is made through the bottom 4 common to the two pipes and pierced with corresponding holes and through two fittings 5 and 6 to which are connected the aforementioned inner tubes.
The end of the inner pipe 1 turned towards the bottom 4, is advantageously bent outside the axis of the outer pipe in order to be able to be corded to the corresponding eccentric opening of the bottom 4.
The other end of the aforementioned outer tube 9 is connected laterally by means of a nut, to a connector which serves to establish communication with the Mud pressure water pipe. This connection is designed so that its mouth 11 intended to communicate with the pressurized water pipe, and the discharge orifice 12, located in the same axis are arranged in the opposite direction, one of the other, so that the flow of pressurized water brought back into the circuit can be done directly in the drainage basin of the water pipe, without changing direction with respect to the inlet.
Inside the mouth is a rubber gasket 13, of suitable shape, by means of which the connection is connected to the tap of the pipe and through which communication is established with the inner tube 7 through which the water passes under pressure. The end of the inner tube 8 leads to the outlet 12 of the fitting,
The instrument is easily operated using the hose. exterior 1 as a handle; as a result of the flexible tube assembly of the instrument with the communication ord

of the water pipe, the instrument can be given any direction without influencing in any way the water supply pipe or the water discharge pipe.
