<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
(fig.1 et 2)
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
(fig.
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
Une autre came 139 (fig.
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
22). La durée
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>
<Desc/Clms Page number 18>
<Desc/Clms Page number 19>

Machine for the production of press molded objects.
The object of the invention is a machine for the manufacture of molded parts by IL press from a powdery raw material capable of setting either by itself or by the addition of a binding agent and, if necessary , hot,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and hardening in a short time.
To ensure that such a machine has maximum production capacity, it is essential that all the necessary phases of the operation are regulated automatically in such a way that one is carried out each time while the other is being prepared. This implies that the machine must be abundantly provided with safety devices which prevent deterioration in the event that any of the partial operations, which are linked, one within the other, are not carried out on time and correctly.
The machinery which is the object of the invention is characterized by a hydraulic press provided with a cross member which rests freely on the movable part of the press and to which is fixed a part of the mold which serves to expel the finished molding parts. and which for this purpose is stopped by fixed stops of the frame of the press, while the moving part continues its movement back to the starting position. Another feature of the press consists of a loading device for the molds of the press and a regulating device influenced by stop members which aims to regulate the work of the press and of the loading device in function. tion of the mobile organs of the press.
In the accompanying drawing is shown by way of example an embodiment of the machinery used for carrying out the method which is the subject of the invention.

The press proper comprises a fixed piston 1 and a movable cylinder 2, the first being pierced with an axial channel 3 into which the conduit 4 serving as an inlet and outlet for the motor liquid opens out. 5 is the lower end of the movable cylinder, so that it is placed far from the heated molds which one is obliged to use in such machines and is thus protected from the harmful influence heat.
The cylinder 2 is surmounted by guides 6 in which parts of the mold are interchangeably mounted. In the case of the example described, the machinery is supposed to have to be used for making round boxes. The mold necessary for this work consists of a die 7 pierced right through by eight bores 8 (FIG. 16) in which the pistons 9 of a lower part 10 of the mold slide without play.
This part 10 is interchangeably fixed to a cross member 11 which rests freely on the upright faces 12 of the cylinder 2, the pistons 9 constituting, in combination with the bores 8, the mold cavities (fig. 16) in which are then engaged. the pistons 13 which are integral with the base 15 of the press, in order to perform the work of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
molding of the materials discharged into said cavities. The base 15 is connected to the base of the press on which the piston 1 is fixed, via the usual columns 17, along which the cylinder 2 is guided.
The various parts of the mold are heated for example by means of electric heating elements 18. The independent mounting of the cross member 11 on the cylinder can be used advantageously for the expulsion of the compressed parts once their molding is finished, since once when the compression is completed, cylinder 2 returns on its own to its lower end-of-travel position, in which it rests on wedges 19, while cross member 11 rests on wedges 20, resting on cross members 21 fixed to columns 17 (fig. . 3 and 4). The pistons 9 are thus stopped and as the intermediate plate 7 of the mold, which constitutes the die, continues to descend, the press-molded parts are expelled by the pistons 9 which finally come to occupy the relative position shown to the fig. 3 and 4 with respect to matrix 7.
The gases which are released during the compression are evacuated through conduits arranged in the base 15 of the press and a pipe 22 connected to said conduits.
On the pipe 4 is mounted a connector 23 to which are connected an exhaust valve 24 and a high pressure valve 25, and, through a check valve 26, a low pressure valve 27. A pipe 28 serves to supply a high pressure liquid. The line 29 brings in low pressure liquid, and the -pipe 30 serves as
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
exhaust pipe to drained water. In order to save pressurized water, the high pressure does not begin to act on the compressor cylinder until the latter has already been brought to its compression position by the low pressure thrust used previously. The various valves are operated by means described below as a function of the position of the compressor cylinder.
The loading device which brings to the molds the raw material intended to be molded by the action of the press and the simultaneous use of heat, in compressed molding parts, such as parts of boxes for example, and which can be made by sawdust mixed with a binding agent, comprises a container 31 for the raw material. Inside this container 31 rotates a stirrer-mixer consisting of two flanges 33 fixedly mounted on a shaft 32 and carrying longitudinal bars 34. On the shaft 32 is also fixed a chain pinion 35 actuated by the 'intermediate a chain 36 by a chain sprocket 38 which is fixed on a shaft 37.
The shaft 37 is controlled by means of an electric motor 39, by the intermediary of a gear reduction by worm 40. (fig. 1 and 2)
The container 31 which has the shape of a trough has at its base eight parallel rows of holes 41 which are framed by a rim 42 projecting below the container., Below each row of holes 41 is each arranged. once a hopper 43, one of the walls of which is formed in part by an oscillating flap 44 which can oscillate about an axis 45 and comes to be applied, in its raised position,
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
against the edge of the frame 42 then preventing the raw material coming out through the rows of holes, from falling into the hoppers 43.
Each shutter 44 is fixed square each time an arm 46 whose hub each time carries a notch 47 which allows each of the shutters 44 to oscillate separately in the closing direction, while all the shutters are brought together to their position shown in fig. 5 in solid line when the axis 45, which carries for this purpose for each flap a screw 48 acting in combination each time with a corresponding notch. dante 47, is maneuvered by means of a rod 49 which is articulated with a lever 50 mounted fixed on the axis 45.
The flaps 44 are held in their open position by a stop pawl 51 acting in combination with a nose 52 of the lever 46, while torsion springs 53 constantly tend to return the flaps 44 to their closed position. as soon as the stop pawl 51 releases the lever 46. The stop pawls 51 are triggered by electromagnets 54, the armature 55 of which acts in combination with an arm of the stop pawl 51 (FIG. 5). At the end of 2 the eight electromagnets are shown one beside the other.
The excitation of the electromagnets 54 is determined by the intermediary of the automatic rockers placed below the hoppers 43. These scales each time comprise a container 57 suspended from a beam 56, the lower end of which can be closed by means of two valves 58. These
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The latter can oscillate around bolts 59 and are biased by a spring 60 which constantly tends to keep them in their closed position (fig. 8). Each valve also carries a cleat 61. All of these cleats 61 act in combination with the counter-angled edge 62 of a rule 63 which can oscillate about an axis 64 and can be actuated by means of a lever. 65 that comes to attack a connecting rod 66.
Being tilted downwards, the rule 63 comes to rest its edge 62 on the tabs 61 of all the valves 58 and thus opens them in the manner indicated in FIG. 9. On the beam 56 of each rocker are slidably mounted weights 57 for coarse adjustment, and weights 58 for fine adjustment., Each beam 56 further carries a contact spring 69 (fig. 5 and 2) which is bent in the shape of a crescent and comes to rest against a contact rod 70 k each time that the beam 56 tilts as soon as the raw material distributed to the container 57 by the hopper 43 has reached the determined weight.
Closing the circuit at contact 70 causes the corresponding electromagnet 54 to be energized, which triggers the stop pawl 51 and the shutter 44 is brought to its closed position, thus intercepting any new arrival of raw material to the container 57.
Each time a tubular funnel 71 is placed below each container 57 which brings the weighed quantity of raw material from the container 57 to another container 72. The mixing tank 31, the shutters
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
44 and the weighing devices are mounted on the base 15 of the top of the press.
The eight receptacles 72 are arranged in two rows and coaxially with the pistons 13 and 9 in a frame 73 mounted in turn to slide in slides 74 fixed to the columns 17. FIGS. 10 and 11 show the frame 73 in its position pulled out of the press, in which its containers 72 are loaded by the funnels 71, while FIGS. 15 and 16 show the frame 73 slid into the press with its containers 3e, in the position in which the filling of the boxes of the mold takes place. This sliding movement of the frame 73 is controlled by a lever 75 which attaches the frame by means of an adjustable rod 76 and 77.
At the end adjacent to the press of the frame 73, a control unit 78 is articulated by means of rods 79 with levers 80 fixedly mounted on a shaft 81. The vertical guide of the rule 78 is provided by means of guides 82 ' sliding in eyes 82. The purpose of the control 78 is to detach, at the time of the inward movement of the frame 73 towards the press, the parts A whose molding has been completed and to push them back over an inclined plane 83 to a reception point (fig. 10 and 15). The receptacles 72 are closed by a common sheet metal drawer 84. The latter is requested by a counterweight 85 which attacks it via a cable 86 and a roller 87 and which constantly tends to open. drawer 84.
On the drawer 84 are mounted
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
two fixed racks 88 acting in combination with pinions 89 which are fixed on a shaft 90. On this shaft is also fixed a cam 91 carrying a single tooth and which is prevented from turning by a sliding bolt 92 whose one of the ends acts in combination with the tooth of the cam and therefore constitutes a lock opposing the action of the counterweights 85. The opposite end of the lock 92 carries a head 94 provided on the side with a nose 93 intended to act in combination with a ring 95 'carrying a cam 95 on each side. The ring 95' is fixed on the shaft 81 (fig. 12, 13).
When the shaft 81 then performs a rotary movement in the opposite direction to the movement of the hands of a watch considered in the position of FIG. 12- the members 93 and 95 determine a sliding movement of the bolt 92 to the right, against the action of the antagnist spring, consequently eliminating the locking of the cam 91. The counterweight 85 is therefore free to act and can remove the drawer 84 behind the containers 72. This movement of the drawer occurs when the frame 73 is with its containers 72 above the molds and the die has already completed part of its upward stroke and occupies the position shown in fig. 16.
During this upward movement of the cylinder of the press with the die 7, the latter pushes the rule 78 and forces it pertically, so that the rod 79 determines an oscillatory movement of the lever 80 and, consequently, of shaft 81. The latter thus causes the triggering of the shaft 90 and, consequently, the opening.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
opening of the drawer 84, so that the raw material contained in the containers 72 falls into the openings of the molds. The rear travel of the drawer 84 is limited by elastic stops 96 of the frame 73.
The frame 73 is then pulled out of the press by the lever 75 and first moves together with the drawer 84 until the latter hits the arrows 97 attached to the slides 74. The drawer can no longer thus move away from the press, while the frame 73 continues its course, so that the drawer 84 is again placed in its closed position below the containers 72.
However, as soon as the slide 84 is in this position, the rules 78 escapes from the die 7 and, by falling, causes through the links 79 and the levers 80 an oscillatory movement of the shaft 81 which brings the verron 92 to its locked position relative to the cam 91 and thus immobilizes the spool 84 again until it is triggered again in the manner described during the next working cycle.
Simultaneously with the description of the control units will be described below a complete working cycle.
The shaft 37 which is controlled by the motor 39 consists of two parts 37 and 37 'between which is. fitted with a clutch release (fig. 20 and 21). On the section 37 'of the shaft is fixedly mounted a plate 99 carrying notches 980
In combination with this plate 9 comes a sliding lock 101 which can slide in a sleeve.
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
100 and that a spring 102 constantly tends to press against the plate 99. The sliding latch 101 has a notch 103 in which the bevelled end of a lever 104 can be engaged, with the aim of driving out. the engagement latch against the action of its counter spring and disengage the coupling.
A cam fixed on the section 37 of the shaft 105 (FIG. 17) comes during the rotation of the shaft 37 to engage the roller 106 of a lever 108 mounted to oscillate on an axis 110.
The lever 108 that a counterweight 108 'tends to oscillate towards the cam 105, carries a pawl 107 oscillating. This pawl attacks a ratchet 109 which is mounted idle on the axis 110 and carries on both sides each time a stop 111 and 112 (figo 19). 113 is a retaining pawl which prevents, after each advance, a return of the ratchet 109 backwards which constantly tends to cause a cable 114 wound around the hub of the ratchet 109 and / from which a counterweight 115 is suspended (fig.
1 and 2). A stop 116 releases after each operation of the latching the pawl 107 with the ratchet 109, so that the latter can be returned to its original position by the traction of the cable 114 by a release of the retanue pawl 113. The stop 111 acts on the upper end of a rod 117 which, in the opening position of the high pressure valve, comes to rest against an adjustable stop 118 (fig. 22) and rests is then in such a position that said upper end is! ,, the range of travel of the stop 111.
The
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
rod 117 constitutes one of the arms of an oscillating bracket on the opposite arm of which a lever 119 is mounted, with one end of the latter is hinged connected a yoke 120 serving to open the high pressure valve
25, while the opposite end of lever 119 is hingedly connected to a rod 121 provided with an adjustment ring 122. Between this adjustment plate 122 and a bulkhead
123 in which the rod 121 is guided is interposed a compressor spring 124. The adjusting ring 122 is engaged by a stop 125 fixed to the bottom of the movable cylinder
2 of the press, so that the high pressure valve 25 is opened as soon as the press cylinder has reached a determined height, as shown in solid lines in FIG. 22.
The stop 112 acts on a lever 126 which is mounted oscillating on the shaft 110 and with which is hingedly connected a rod 127 serving to actuate the echo valve 24. The outer end of the lever 126 is hingedly connected with a rod 128 directed upwards and on which is mounted a stop 129 (FIG. 1) with which a stopper 130 of the cylinder 2 can cooperate when the stop 129 is placed on the path of the stopper 130.
This combination constitutes a safety device intended to prevent under any circumstance that the cylinder 2 can be lifted to its compression position while the frame 73 is still engaged in the press. A nose 131 which protrudes above the frame 73
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
comes to attack the upper end of the rod 128 and causes it to oscillate to the left (considered in the position of FIG. 1) as soon as the frame 73 is released from the press.
The stop 129 is thus placed outside the path traveled by the cleat 130 and the oylin- dre 2 can perform its ascending stock market. If, on the contrary, the frame 73 is still engaged in the press, the cleat 130 comes off the stop 129 raised. the rod 128 and the exhaust valve 24 is opened, thus instantly determining the stop of the cylinder 2. A spring 132 constantly tends to make the rod 128 and, consequently, the lever 126 oscillate to the right and downwards and therefore tends to keep the exhaust valve closed, but at the same time to keep the stopper 129 engaged in the path traveled by the cleat 130.
On the section 37 'of the shaft is also fixed a cam 133 (fig. 2 and 18), the curvilinear part 134 in the shape of a heart acts in combination with a roller 135 mounted on the rod 75. This is by means of this cam is obtained the reciprocating movement of the frame 75 with the receptacles 72 to introduce it into the press, to load the reels and to bring out the frame of the press.
On the section 37 'of the shaft is also mounted a cam 136 (fig. 18) which actuates a toggle lever 137 mounted oscillating on the shaft 110 and with the outer arm - to which the rod 66 is articulated.
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
which lowers the rule 63 to open the set of valves 58. A return spring 138 presses the lever 137 against the cam 136.
Another cam 139 (fig. 18), also mounted on the shaft 37 ', acts on a lever 140 which can oscillate around 110 and with which the connecting rod 49 is hingedly connected through which all the flaps 44 are brought. in their open position to be locked by the latches 51. A return spring 49 'applies the lever 140 against the cam 1390
On the shaft 37 'is finally still fixed a cam 141 (fig. 2, 23 and 24) which acts in combination with the roller 142 of a lever 143 which comes to attack a connecting rod 144 intended to actuate the low pressure valve 27 via a rocker lever 145. A spring 146 constantly tends to close the low pressure valve 27.
The lever 143 is mounted oscillating 'on one of the arms of an oscillating square 147, the opposite arm of which is hingedly connected with a rod 148 whose opposite end acts in combination with a stop 149 fixed to the cylinder 2.
To the cylinder 2 is further fixed a stopper 150 intended to act in combination with an arm 151 (fig.
17) of a three-arm lever actuated by a torsion spring 156, the second arm 152 of which is articulated with a connecting rod 153 connected with the retaining pawl
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
213. As soon as the stopper 150 strikes the arm 151, the retaining pawl 113 is released from the ratchet 109.
The third arm of the three-arm lever, which is kept pressed against the recess 103 of the sliding latch 101, serves to disengage the coupling 99, 1000
To the cylinder 2 is further adapted an angled bracket 157 which acts in combination with a lug 159 projecting from the side of a head 158. This head 158 is mounted on a bar 160 hinged connected with the control lever 104 of the cylinder. clutch. The stopper 159 can slide in a slot 161 and is supported by a spring stick 162-163 against one of the ends of said slot.
When, on the descent of cylinder 2, the stop 157 strikes the stopper 159, the latter is driven together with the head 158 against the action of the right-left spring 163 of FIG. 17, but when the stop 157 strikes the stopper 159 during the upstroke of the cylinder 2, the bar 160 is drawn to the right and the lever 104 away from the coupling, against which it is kept applied by the action of the spring of torsion 164.
For the explanation of the operation @@ the cylinder 2 of the press will be assumed to be in its end-up position, in which it is held for some time under the influence of the high pressure, until that the hot agglomeration of the materials is completed. During this time the high pressure valve 25 is kept open by the stopper \ 125 (fig. 22). The duration
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
of this opening is regulated by the movement of the ratchet
109 which is actuated via the oame 105 and the pawl 107.
By the rotation of the ratchet, the stop 111 engages the connecting rod 117 and pushes the latter to the position indicated in phantom in FIG. 22, thus bringing the lever 119 to the position indicated in phantom, the lower end of the connecting rod 121 serving as the center of oscillation. The high pressure valve 25 is then closed. Immediately after the stop 112 of the ratchet 109 strikes the lever 126 @@ and determines through it a lifting of the connecting rod 127 and an opening of the exhaust valve 24. The cylinder 2 goes down and its stop 150 comes to attack the arm 151 of the oscillating square which then triggers, via the connecting rod 153 (fig. 17), the retaining pawl 113 from the ratchet 109.
Following the next advance via the cam 105 and the pawl 107, the latter, meeting the stop 116, is released from the ratchet 109 and the ratchet is then returned to its original position by the action of the counterweight 115. The stopper 150 at the same time disengages the lever 155 from the coupling sleeve, so that the clutch lock 101 performs the coupling of the parts 37 and 37 'of the shaft, and that for the duration of a rotation of 60.
At the end of this rotation of 60 the cam 141 (fig. 23) determines the opening of the low pressure valve 27, since in the position of the members indicated in fig. 23, in which the bar 148 is immobilized by the stopper 149 of the cylinder, the energy of the spring 146 is overcome
<Desc / Clms Page number 18>
The cylinder is lifted to a certain height, until the stopper 157 strikes the tab 159 and pulls the coupling lever 104 out of the coupling sleeve and allows the latter to engage.
The stopper 149 has at the same time moved away, in fact of this upward stroke of the cylinder 2, from the end of the bar 148; the thrust of the spring 146 is then sufficient to cause the bar 148 to return to the rear and a corresponding oscillation of the square 147 by which the lever 143, by oscillating around its roller 142 pressed against the cam 141, comes to take the position shown in fig. 24, in which the low pressure valve 27 is closed.
The cylinder 2 therefore stops for a short time during which the coupling is effective, and after a determined rotational movement of the shaft 37 the roller 142 engages on the most eccentric circumference of the cam. 141; the low pressure valve 27 is opened and the cylinder resumes its upward stroke to the compression position upon arrival at which the cylinder latch 125 determines the opening of the high pressure valve. The check valve 26 prevents the high pressure from influencing the low pressure valve.
As soon as, as a result of the continued rotational movement of the shaft 37-37 'and of the cam 141, the roller 142 escapes from the most eccentric part of the latter, the low pressure valve 27 is closed.
During the rotation of the section \ 37, of the shaft, partly initially during the first rotary movement of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 19>
60 and then during the second rotary movement to complete a complete revolution, the cams 133, 136 and
139 perform work and determine the reciprocating motion of frame 73, opening of valves 58 to drop weighed materials into containers 72 of frame 73, and oscillation of flaps 44 to their locked position.
As soon as the high pressure has exerted its action on the pressure for the necessary time, the ratchet is returned to its position in which the high pressure valve is closed and the exhaust valve opened, the cylinder descending and the cycle of the valves. operations start again.
Stops adapted to the cylinder or columns of the press to ensure limitation of cylinder stroke or other movements, are preferably made adjustable.
The automatic adjustment of the operation of the loading device as a function of the movement of the movable part of the press, which could equally well be the piston of the press, instead of being the master cylinder in the example which has just been described , allows to push the speed of the work and the capacity, of output to their maximum.
Instead of being set up for eight mold fractions which are being loaded simultaneously and intended for the production of castings, the press mechanism might as well be set up for any larger number.
