Process for obtaining diolefins directly from alcohols.
Various methods have already been proposed for obtaining diolefins, according to which alcohols mixed with other substances - such as, for example, aldehydes, olefins and the like - and heated in the presence of a suitable catalyst, give diolefins.
On the other hand, Perkin and Matthews (British patent July 24, 1912, Ng 17 to 35) indicated that butadiene can be. obtained from butyl alcohol alone and the homologues of butadiene can be obtained homologues of butyl combinations by heating them to

presence of suitable catalysts.
Butyl alcohol or its homologues lose one water molecule and one hydrogen molecule and turn into butadiene or its homologues retaining the carbon atomic chain of butyl alcohol or its homologues *
The inventor's investigations show that the diolefins and particularly butadiene and its homologues can be obtained with a good yield directly from alcohols having a lower number of carbon atoms in their molecule than that of the diolefin obtained. For this, these alcohols must be heated in the presence of a suitable catalyst.
The characteristic feature of this reaction is the joining of the chains of reacting alcohol molecules. Molecules of the same alcohol as well as molecules of different alcohols can take part in the reaction.
Thus, for example, ethyl alcohol under the action of a high temperature in the presence of a mixture of aluminum oxide (catalyst removing water) and zinc oxide (catalyst removing hydrogen) forms butadiene with good yield. This reaction takes place according to the equation:
EMI2.1
2CH3 - Gel (OH) = 2H2 0 + H2 + C4 H6
During this reaction it is useful to employ a pressure below atmosphere and to subject the reaction products to cooling as rapidly as possible.
As the catalyst or one of the catalyst components, one of the combinations of a
