renforcé;

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Pour faciliter le travail, ce collet d n'est pas fait entièrement en nickel, il est senlement constitué d'un noyau en acier, sur lequel est pressée une enveloppe étirée en nickel, avec fond arnondi, qui, vour en assurer la Raintien, entre dans des rainures ou dans de!? encoches prévues autour de la, partie intérieure en acier et peut, an outre, être rabattue à l'autre extrémité, k, fig.3, 4;

SPARK PLUG FOR ENGINES
The invention relates to a spark plug for internal combustion engines, by which the main cause of faulty ignitions caused by short circuits due to the bursting of the insulating body and the formation of a soot bridge is eliminated. acting as a conductor.
Until now, attempts have been made to overcome these drawbacks by surrounding the reinforced part of the insulator with a protective metal sleeve and, on the other hand, by providing this part with a short metal head placed in front of the insulator on the insulator. The inner electrode, which head was only intended to serve as an appendage to the middle electrode. This arrangement does not allow an intensive influx of heat into the reinforced part of the insulator and the short metal head does not prevent the bursting of the insulator and the formation of a soot bridge acting as a conductor. Uniform heating of the insulator cannot be obtained in this way.
According to the invention, such heating becomes possible, owing to the fact that the reinforced part of the insulator is surrounded by a metal sleeve which is a good conductor of heat and having an extension which rests against the inner wall of the main body, which is separated from the insulator and possibly
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
reinforced;
also due to the fact that between the head of the electrode and the insulator, there is a reinforced metal collar, shaped to release the ignited gases which meet it, directing them towards the extension of the metal sleeve , and finally because the metal collar is surrounded, over its entire surface, directly or by leaving an empty space at its end, by a drawn envelope made of nickel, a nickel alloy or other metal which is difficult to melt.
The object of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing.
Fig, I shows the spark plug in longitudinal section
Fig. 2 is an execution form of the metallic pin with the spark plug.
Fig. 3 shows the spark plug, with another embodiment of the metal collar seen in section.
Fig. 4 shows the metal collar with hollow empty space in section. a represents the main body, b the insulating body, c the extended metallic copper sleeve, with its bearing face c 'bevelled and resting on the corresponding bevel a' (Fig. I), or on the edge vive a '' (Fig. 3) said main body a. d is a metallic collar ¯ ¯ (to which; which has a bulge directed towards the insulating body it is attached, e is a drawn nickel casing, placed, according to fig. 3 and 4, on the metallic collar d. f is a transverse plate in the main body; g is the electrode.
According to fig. 4, h represents the hollow space, i, a groove and k, a bead for fixing the nickel casing. According to. fig. 2, the metal sleeve c has a narrower extension, to which it is connected by the bevelled bearing face c ',
When explosions occur in the cylinder, the insulating body is not directly affected by the flame stinger; this is deflected by the metal collar towards
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the inner wall of the sleeve 0, good conductor, covering the main body a, which has a bulge towards said insulating body.
It therefore follows that the collar d allows only a part of the initial heat to penetrate to the insulating body, given that during the journey to this body part of this heat is lost by radiation.
Because the bursting of the insulating body can only be caused by uneven heating of its thin section and its thick part, which gives rise to tensions, it is important to bring the necessary amount of heat into the part from the outset. reinforced, which is obtained as follows:
The insulating body is placed in a metal sleeve which is a good conductor of heat, externally cylindrical fair, but internally provided with shoulders. In the inner diameter tassel part is the insulating body, supported by the shoulder of the thick-walled lower part, which protrudes inside the main body.
At the top of the thin wall of the sleeve, the insulating body is held by a folding or a bead.
The metal sleeve which, depending on the degree of heat developed by the engine, will be longer or shorter, has its guide in a threaded part of the main body and closes hermetically from below by means of a valve or a compression seat. The insulating body is hermetically sealed in the metal casing and the latter in the main body, by a pressure which can be obtained either by screwing, or also by folding the upper edge of said main body,
While, according to fig.
I, the metal casing c has at its lower part a bevelled face, on which it rests in a hermetic manner, the casing
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
good conductor of heat in fig. 2, tapers in its lower part and its bevel a 'is between the large diameter part and the reduced diameter part.
The hermetic seal is thus obtained, without the aid of a packing bagua, by contact of the entire underside. As this contact face is relatively large, only minimal pressure occurs at each point and absolute tightness is therefore sometimes questionable.
If, on the contrary (see fig. 3), the bevelled underside of the metal casing is pressed against a sharp edge of the main steel body, these parts achieve, thanks to. the total pressure which is exerted on a minimal surface, a perfect hermeticity, even if there are small defects on the periphery of the parts.
The metal collar serving to deflect the flame of the insulating body and to direct it towards the good conductive socket c should preferably, according to the experiments carried out, be made in pure nickel or in an alloy rich in nickel.
To facilitate the work, this collar d is not made entirely of nickel, it is only made up of a steel core, on which is pressed a drawn nickel envelope, with rounded bottom, which, to ensure its retention, goes into grooves or in !? notches provided around the inner steel part and can, in addition, be folded down at the other end, k, fig.3, 4;
If the covering envelope e is applied, it is also possible to provide an empty space in the region of the sparks, which space, depending on its importance, will influence the value of the incandescent ignition of the spark plug.
