" DISPOSITIF POUR L'ALIMENTATION DES REDRESSEURS PAR L'INTER- MEDIAIRE DE TRANSFORMATEURS ET DE BOBINES DE SELF D'ABSORP-
TION "
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"DEVICE FOR THE POWER SUPPLY OF RECTIFIERS THROUGH TRANSFORMERS AND ABSORP SELF COILS-
TION "
When using for supplying current rectifiers, transformers with absorption choke coils, when the rectifier load is low, the voltage on the DC side is a function of the load while, at the loads stronger, it has a substantially constant value.
The cause lies in this fact, that for low current flow rates the voltage drop determined by the absorption coil is roughly proportional to these currents, while
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that, when the current flow is higher, it varies only slightly with the load due to the saturation of the absorption coil. This mode of operation of the device is, however, a serious drawback, since the rise in voltage which occurs when the charge on the rectifier disappears has very damaging consequences for the consumer appliances which are still in circuit. .
The voltage applied to the absorption coil is an alternating voltage which comes mainly from the third harmonic and the magnetizing current is then supplied by the corresponding harmonic contained in the direct current of the rectifier. If the direct current of the rectifier decreases below a certain value, the harmonic in question becomes too weak to excite the absorption coil to the necessary value, and the decrease in the voltage drop has the consequence. As a result, the rectifier voltage increases.
In accordance with the invention, this rise in the DC voltage of the rectifier can be avoided when the charge on the latter disappears, by energizing the absorption coil separately with the aid of a current corresponding to the harmonic. three, so that the voltage drop is no longer purely a function of the intensity of the load but is, on the contrary, given by the separate excitation source. The object of the invention is therefore a device for supplying rectifiers by means of transformers with absorption coil, in which the magnetizing current of the third harmonic intended for the excitation of the Absorption coil is produced by induction in a separate current source and fed to a coil winding. absorption.
As a source of-; @

current of the third harmonic, any highly saturated inductive resistor can be used, for example a three-phase highly saturated transformer whose primary winding is star-shaped, while its secondary winding is on the contrary mounted in open delta , the current of harmonic three being able to be directly collected at the secondary terminals. This current is preferably supplied to a special excitation winding of the absorption coil. It creates a triple frequency field, which induces in the absorption coil a voltage also of triple frequency and which is independent of the rectifier load.
It is therefore possible in this way to induce in the absorption coil a voltage which, in value, in phase and in frequency, corresponds to the voltage produced by the current of the rectifier and which represents a voltage drop in the rectifier circuit.
But this voltage is independent of the load and is therefore maintained even when the rectifier operates completely empty. The undesirable rise in voltage is thus completely avoided.
The example of execution shown in the drawing will make it possible to better understand the principle of the device. In the figure, designates a three-phase network,
TI: the main transformer for supplying the rectifier G,
P: the primary winding of the main transformer.
QI, Q2 the secondary windings of the main transformer, with the neutral points OI and O2.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
A The anodes and K the cathodes of the rectifier G
S An absorption coil whose winding D is interposed between the neutral points OI and 02, while its excitation winding E is supplied by the secondary winding b of the excitation transformer T2 whose primary winding, a receives its current from the secondary winding QI.
The transformer T2 is highly saturated, so that '! its magnetizing current presents a very marked third harmonic.
But this harmonic circulates in the secondary winding b mounted in a triangle, open and closes by means of the winding; E excitation element of the absorption coil. He also produces. in said coil a field which is specific to it, and by following, a voltage of frequency triple at the terminals of the winding D.
Since the voltage of the winding QI is given and constant, the voltage due to the third harmonic on the absorption coil is also constant and independent of the load current of the rectifier. In this way, voltage rise in the rectifier's direct current network is avoided, even with completely empty operation.
