Partial combustion furnace for the manufacture of charcoal and the recovery of by-products.
The invention relates to partial combustion ovens for the manufacture of charcoal and the recovery of by-products.
It aims to provide a practical oven for charcoal charcoal, to facilitate and aotivate the operations of unloading the charcoal produced and to ensure in such an oven, an automatic separation of the charcoal and the condensation by-products (pitch, tar).
For this purpose, the partial combustion furnace constructed according to the invention is characterized by a body in the form of a beehive provided with a hole for loading wood and a sole
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
presenting two faoes inclined towards the unloading doors of the furnace and the edge of which constitutes the diameter of the furnace perpendicular to that at the ends of which the doors are arranged, which allows the easy and rapid flow of charcoal and products condensation respectively towards the doors and side channels arranged so that the condensation products are separated from the charcoal.
The separation of the condensation products from the whole mass of charcoal is preferably done by allowing them to flow through a grid located in front of the two charcoal outlet doors, and covering and protecting the evaouation channels from condensate products. These channels are provided with a siphon to isolate the interior of the furnace from the external atmosphere and thus allow the flow of the condensation products to take place continuously during the carbonization.
The suction of the gases and vapors produced during the carbonization takes place through a vertical central oarneau located in the bottom of the furnace and communicating at right angles with another oarneau bringing the gases and vapors to an external collector. A marquee protects the vertical banner from obstruction by pieces of wood or pieces of charcoal. In the practical embodiment of the invention, the body of the furnace is provided with viewing windows around its entire periphery and at different levels, so as to be able to follow the progress of the combustion. At the level of the bottom of the furnace, vents located all around the periphery make it possible to regulate the course of the carbonization by operating their closing system.
The attached drawings show, by way of example, a partial combustion furnace for the manufacture of charcoal and the recovery of by-products, constructed according to in. vention. The figure is a vertical section passing through 1 tax of the figure is a vertical section passing through the axis

furnace along line I-I of figure 2.
Figure 2 is a horizontal cut along the line
II-II of figure I.
In these figures, 1 is the body of the oven constructed in the shape of a beehive and carrying at the upper part a loading port 2 which can be closed by a hermetically closing door. Lookouts 3 are arranged over the entire exterior surface of the oven, at different levels, and allow monitoring of the progress of the operation.
The hearth of the furnace is formed by two inclined planes 4 forming, by their intersection, a diametral edge 5. These inclined planes 4 are formed by the masonry 6 of the furnace. At the ends of the diameter 7 perpendicular to the edge 5 and at the lowest points of the bottom of the furnace are two doors 8 for unloading the charcoal.
The separate reooling of the tar and in general of the condensation products which accumulate at the two lowest points of the sole is carried out on each side by means of an oanal 9 arranged in the masonry 6. This oanal originates to a channel 10 dug in the floor of the oven in front of each door 8 and covering the entire width of these doors, A grid II placed on this channel allows the passage of condensed products but not of fragments of wood which would obstruct the channel 9. The The arrangement of the channel 10 in front of the doors 8 also enables the condensed products not to exit through these doors. Each oanal 9 is terminated by a siphon 12 in order to properly isolate the interior of the oven from the outside air.
The suction of the gases and vapors formed during the carbonization operation is effected by a vertical central oarneau 13, itself communicating with another horizontal oarneau 14 which carries the gases and vapors to the external collector or to the chimney.
, This oarneau 13 is provided with an ohapiteau 15 which is supported in the bottom of the furnace by four uprights 16 The height of these uprights is sufficient to leave a passage section for the gases and values.

, wise fit. This capital 15 also makes it possible to let the tar which condenses on it condense on the two inclined planes 4 constituting the bottom of the oven. The tar thus flows freely through the channels 9 and the siphons 12 Vents 17 are placed all around the furnace, at the level of the hearth, to allow the progress of the carbonization to be regulated.
The partial combustion furnace for the manufacture of charcoal and the recovery of by-products, works in the following way.
The load of wood is introduced through orifice 2 which is hermetically closed as soon as the oven has its full load.
The carbonization thus takes place in an olos vessel and the fumes and water vapor are sucked in by the oarneaux 13 and 14 The operation is monitored by the manholes 3 and it is possibly regulated by the vents 17. The by-products which are released during the charring of the wood condense and end up flowing over the inclined floor 4 and onto the capital 15. They are collected in the channel 10 and are discharged through the channels 9 passing through through the siphons 12
When the wood has been transformed into charcoal by partial combustion, the doors 8 are opened and the charcoal charge is evaouais.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited as regards the number of inclined planes. Instead of two of these planes, more could be provided, for example four directed towards four unloading doors, or even one could provide only one plane inclined to the horizontal, combined or not with a flat part. sole. Finally, each of the planes of the base could have a double or multiple inclination. Likewise, we are not restricted to the number of evaluation channels 9.
Nothing would prevent, in fact, in providing two or more instead of one, near each unloading door. Finally, the vertical duct for the evacuation of gases and vapors can be connected to two or more horizontal flues instead of just one.
