<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

: Articulated seat for automobiles.
Certain motor vehicles with limited space. only include a door placed at the front and giving access to four seats, two of which are rear. Cn has already built for these cars front seats normally placed in front of the door but which tilt to allow access to the rear seats. The mechanisms provided to date for this purpose are impractical and the tilting chair remains cumbersome as a result of development in height following the release of the door.

Side 7 of quadrilateral b constitutes the pareclose of the seat proper, called 8 which accompanies it in its movements.
The sides7 and, 9 of the quadrilateral ± are articulated on a pad 0 which can move on a slide fixed to the vehicle floor by screws 10a or by any other means.
The pad ± which allows the seat to be fixed at any point on the slide 10 in principle comprises a sole
11 provided with ears 12 and 13 between which is disposed a part 14 tilting on its axis 15 and on which is articulated the quadrilateral b by means of axes 15 and 16.
The part 14 is returned to the normal position by an antagonist spring 18 disposed in a housing 17 made for this purpose in this part and is guided by a pin 19 during the movement of the system; this movement being Unity at will by means of an adjustable stop 20; tilting backward is limited at will by a second adjustable stopper 21 carried by the rear end 22 of the part
14 and which makes it possible to determine the inclination of the backrest upright 5 made integral with the beak of the part 14 by means of the glazing bead 7 of the organ 1 and of the connecting rod
5b.
These arrangements make it possible to adjust the forward and backward movements of the quadrilateral b according to the position occupied by the seat on the rails 10 and in particular to avoid, so that by tilting too pronounced the lower edge of the seat 8 does not strike the fragile objects, glass or other placed on the apron of the car (fig., 3).
The upright 5 supporting the seat back is connected to the quadrilateral a, of which it constitutes one of the sides, by a screw button or the like 23; pressing this button releases the backrest which remains articulated on side 5a of the quadrilateral a which allows the backrest to be deployed and placed in the extension of the seat and to join the rear wheelchair, this assembly then constituting a comfort. sleeper table (fig. 4).
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The whole of the frame connected to the pation c is fixed by it, on the slides or slides 10 by a particular locking device shown in figs. 5 and. 6.
This locking device is essentially constituted on the one hand by the slide 10 in the shape of an inverted U fixed to the floor of the car and, on which is provided a groove 10a allowing the passage of the assembly buttons 24 and 5 of the pad c and of the slide 10. The assembly buttons 24 and 25 are screw-fastened on the one hand, on the pa @ in c of the seat, on the other hand, on a tongue 26 disposed on the side. 'inside the slide 10. Between the slide and the tongue are interposed two balls 27 and 28 housed in two cups 29 and 30 arranged on the tongue 26 between the buttons 24 and 5 and so that the arm 25-27 of the lever thus formed is much longer than the arm 27-24.
This arrangement allows by a very light action on the button 25 to exert enormous pressure on the balls 27 and 28 which produce an absolute blocking of the pad and consequently of the seat to which it is integral.
The operation of the device is as follows: with the seat in its normal position shown in fig.l, to fold it up and release access to the rear seats, it suffices to lift the seat laterally by means of the button 4 which comes out at the same time. 'axis of articulation.
This movement has the effect of bending the device attached to the glazing bead to bring the backrest closer to the seat proper and juxtapose the two articulation quadrilaterals (fig. 3). The backrest inclination is adjusted by acting on the stop 21 which limits the tilting backward of the part 14 made integral with the backrest by the intermediary of the pareolose 7 of the part 1 and the connecting rod. 5b.
The adjustment of the front tilt of the seat when it is folded is carried out by acting on the stop screw 20.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
to transform the seat into a bunk, all you have to do is release its backrest by simply acting on button 23 and gravity acting on the backrest naturally extends over the floor of the car in the extension of the seat itself ( fig. 4) joining the rear seats. The seat can be moved in relation to the floor of the car by simply sliding the pad ± on the slides10 and blocking by a very light action on button 25 which produces, as has been said above, a very strong pressure on the wedging balls
