<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Transmission pulley made of wood and metal.
The present invention relates to a transmission-established pulley in wood and metal in which the rim or blade of the pulley is made with a flat or slightly convex semi-cylindrical steel sheet provided against its internal face and in the middle of its width of a rib giving it rigidity.
This rib is formed of a U-bar, a T-bar or two angles; this rib or the two angles that constitute it are invariably secured against the half-rim by rivets or preferably by welding points electrical; this rib is, moreover, secured to the arms of the wooden spider by embedding the free ends of the arms of the spider in the hollow of the U-shaped iron or the two angles or by embedding the wings of these irons

in the mass of bos composing said arms.
The accompanying drawing shows this construction of transmission pulley in the case where the rib or blade is established with a U-bar.
Fig. 1 cut the ribbed rim pulley in side elevation.
Fig. 2 shows in front elevation half of the rim of this pulley.
Fig. 3 is a diametral section through the line y-y fig. I of one half of said pulley.
Fig. 4 shows the ribbed half rim of a pulley half seen at the diameter a-a of the pulley.
Fig. 5 shows in side elevation this ribbed half rim applied to a pulley half.
Fig. 6 shows in section at x-x level the improved construction of the pulley, its blade being shown secured to the bowl arms of the spider.
Fig. 7 is a cutaway elevation and plan view of one of the two diametrical arms involved in the construction of the wooden spider of the pulley.
The solder or brace is made up of two parallel diametrical arms I & 2 made of hard wood presenting between them an interval corresponding to twice the thickness of the sheet making up the blade of the pulley; in the middle of the length of each of these diametral arms 1 & 2 is implanted perpendicularly a spoke 5, one end of which is housed in a mortise 7 adjoining the semicircular hole 4. cut in each of the arms.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The blade or rim 10 of the pulley is formed by two symmetrical parts each formed of a semi-cylindrical sheet; the ends II of this sheet have been bent inwards to produce a tab directed in the direction of a diameter of the cylindrical part and each leg II is pierced with a hole 12; against the internal cylindrical wall of this sheet and in the middle of its width was placed a semi-cylindrical U-shaped iron 9 having exactly the same diameter and extending from one leg II to the other.
When the pulley is mounted, that is to say when the rim has been assembled with the solder, the arms 1 & 2 are joined by bolts 3; The holes 4 facing each other receive the metallic poyeu (not shown) of the pulley and the folded ends II of the two portions of the blade 10 are juxtaposed and clamped between the two diametrical arms by means of bolts 3 adjacent to the ends of said arms. , the ends of these arms having been notched at 13 allow the U-shaped wings 9 to fit therein, while the free end 8 of each of the spokes 5 is housed in the recess existing between the wings of the iron in U 9.When this assembly is carried out, it is possible, by a few electrical welding points,
Invariably fix rib 9 in position against blade 10 and the pulley is complete.
To facilitate the sliding of the tabs II of the sheet 10 between the diametral arms I & 2 during the assembly of the rim with the spider, it is possible to place between these arms -a tenon 14 which can be inserted into a mortise of the 'one or the other arm

It remains understood that the rib of the blade 10 may be formed by two angles instead of a U-shaped iron or even by a T-shaped iron.
In the case of a pulley with a wide rim, it will be possible to place against the internal face of the half-rim 10 two or more ribs having the shape of a U-shaped iron or of an angle iron or of a T and in this case the diametral arms 1 & 2 would be provided perpendicularly and vis-à-vis the middle of their length with as many spokes 5 as there would be ribs; the free end of these spokes would fit into the hollow of the U-shaped iron or between the angles as has been indicated for the case of a single spoke 5.One could also, in the case of a rib 9 constituted by two T-irons limit themselves to using a single spoke 5, the free end of which would fit between the wings of the T-irons.
The diametrical arms 1 & 2 instead of being formed of pieces of wood of the same width in their entire length can be established, as shown in fig. 6 & 7 with wider pieces of wood in the vicinity of the middle of their length than towards their ends.
It remains understood that it will be possible to vary the constructible arrangements of the elements: cross member and ribbed blade composing this pulley established in wood and metal and also to replace the metal rib by a wooden rib.
