<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
1 les deux arbres manivelles jumelés , maintenus so- lidaires par un engrenage de liaison, sont disposés dans un même plan vertical et rapprochés, l'un d'eux étant de con- struction plus renforcée que l'autre;
2 la bielle d'accouplement est raccourcie et allégée;
'L'invention est d'ailleurs décrite en détail ci-dessus avec référence aux figures du dessin annexé, lequel représen- te:
Figure 1 un moteur avec l'axe du cylindre passant par le pivot d'embiellage et les axes des vilebrequins, repré- senté en coupe transversale ;
Figure 2 un moteur à cylindre et à pivot d'embiellage désaxé, représenté en coupe transversale ;
Figure 3 vue longitudinale des arbres manivelles avec la bielle d'accouplement coupée;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Improvements to motion transmissions by oscillating rods"
The present invention relates to improvements to twin crankshaft motors, described in main patent n 310649 of 5/28/1923 and aims to simplify the construction of either single cylinder or V-type motors. with one or more bends in which the oscillating links of the cylinder (s) are embellished on a single pivot carried by the coupling rod of the twin crankshafts.
Another object of the present invention is to allow the offset of the engine cylinder and of the articulation point. oscillating connecting rods in order to modify the curve of the driving forces and this without requiring a passage of the connecting rod, in the bottom of the cylinder as one is obliged to do it
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
usually with off-center engines and also to transfer the major part of the efforts to only one of the two crankshafts, the other functioning mainly as a guide to ensure the uniformity of the rotational speed of the crank pin bearings which allows the connecting rods or rollers of its bearings to constantly have a rigorous speed
Circular and uniform.
This objective is achieved by means of the following characteristics of the construction:
1 the two twin crank shafts, held together by a connecting gear, are arranged in the same vertical plane and close together, one of them being of more reinforced construction than the other;
2 the connecting rod is shortened and made lighter;
3 the point of articulation of the oscillating rods of the cylinders is transferred to the end of the coupling rod.
The invention is moreover described in detail above with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing, which shows:
Figure 1 an engine with the axis of the cylinder passing through the crankshaft pivot and the axes of the crankshafts, shown in cross section;
Figure 2 a cylinder engine with an offset crankshaft pivot, shown in cross section;
Figure 3 longitudinal view of the crank shafts with the coupling rod cut;
Figure 4 another construction mode of the coupling rod.
In accordance with the invention, the crankshafts of the new type of engine imagined are placed in the same vertical plane, the upper crankshaft, for example, being intended to receive the direct engine force in the main order. @the two crankshafts are driven by a rotational speed
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
equal by means of securing gears and are connected by a coupling rod articulated at their elbows by means of ball or roller bearings, sum it has already been described in the main patent.
The new device is charac-ctérise 'by the fact that the axes of rotation of the two crankshafts are suitably brought together, which can be obtained thanks to the fact that the second crankshaft 2, being no longer intended to serve guide to the movement of the connecting rod, can be made more lightly than the main crankshaft 1, and that its elbows can pass between the flanges of the elbows of the main crankshaft.
The coupling rod 3 is made up of two sections 3 and 3 ', assembled by means of a sliding device of any shape, round, square, rectangular, or other, or even by mounted rods. slide in an independent big end, as shown in fig. 4. (, 'mode of construction does not have a functional role in the movement of the engine but it is intended to facilitate the execution of the parts, since it is extremely difficult to achieve a sufficiently precise machining of the connecting rod coupling and all of the crankshafts, The upper part .3 of the connecting rod carries at its end the crankshaft pivot 4, to which is articulated the oscillating connecting rod (s) 5 which transmit the force of the engine pistons 6 .
In the variant embodiment shown in FIG. 2, this pivot 4 is offset with respect to the connecting rod 3, 3 ', so as to increase the lever arm of the driving force during the driving stroke of the piston and to reduce the lever arm of the resistant force during the return stroke of the piston, The cylinder can also be disarmed in the meter goal.
The graphic construction of these lever arms indicated in fig. 1 and 2, in fact clearly shows the increase
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the active radius ± of the resultant 'of the driving force acting along the axis of the connecting rod.
Claims
1 The improvements to transmissions by oscillating connecting rods with twin crank shafts and coupling rods, at uniform speed of rotation of the crank bearings, as described in main patent no.310649, consisting of a superimposed arrangement of the crank shafts, which has the effect of transferring the major part of the engine effort to one of the crankshafts, which can be constructed with larger dimensions than the other twin crankshaft which acts as a guide, so that by 'taking advantage of this inequality of dimensions, it is possible to bring these two crankshafts together.
2 Improvements to transmissions by oscillating connecting rods as claimed in 1, consisting in the construction of the coupling rod of the twin crankshafts, which is lightened by virtue of its shorter length and consists of two parts assembled together by an appropriately shaped slide assembly, the pivot of the drive oscillating connecting rods being transferred to the end of the coupling rod.
3 Improvements to motion transmissions with oscillating connecting rods, as claimed in 1 and 2, consisting of a particular embodiment in which the articulation pivot of the driving rods and possibly the engine cylinder (s) are offset with respect to the coupling rod and to the plane containing the axes of rotation of the twin crankshafts.
