<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
REVENDICATIONS

Improvements to compositions useful as positive catalysts for hydraulic binding materials, and methods of making such compositions.
The present invention relates to compositions useful as positive catalytic agents for hydraulic binding materials of all geniuses, and to methods of making such compositions, and it also relates to the treatment of these materials with these compositions and the products resulting therefrom. definitely.
For a long time, attempts have been made to hasten the agglomeration and setting of hydraulic cements of all kinds by certain additions, particularly by means of salts.
These additions are referred to herein as positive catalytic agents. The most active salts, however, are hygroscopic salts and for this reason they cannot be
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
store with hydraulic cements. Attempts have been made with a view to producing non-hydrosoopic salts acting on hydraulic oiments in the same advantageous manner, but no completely satisfactory preparation has been obtained so far as regards the possibility of storage of the preparation. or the effect it exerts on hydraulic cements.
It is also known that compounds or mixtures of a kind in which the hydraulic factors do not exist in the same ratio as in Portland cement, for example natural or artificial silicates of calcium, soories from all sources, and especially compounds of the kind in which hydraulic properties are latent can be made into hydraulic binding materials by certain additions.
The present invention relates to positive solid state catalytic agents which are capable of being stored alone or in admixtures with hydraulic binding materials of all kinds, not only of the Portland cement type, but also of the type which comes from to be mentioned. These agents exert much greater effect on hydraulic binding materials of the Portland cement type and by mixing these agents with the compounds or mixtures mentioned above, highly hydraulic binding materials having excellent properties are obtained.
The present invention also relates to a process for the production of these hatalytic agents and to a process for treating hydraulic binding materials with these positive oatalytic agents which are preferably mixed during the grinding of these materials.
The invention also relates to the product
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
that is to say to hydraulic binding materials resulting from this treatment.
The invention is based on the fact that the colloidal substances act to protect other substances impregnated by means of these colloidal substances. This fact is illustrated by the following example. CaCl2 is by itself strongly hygroscopic, but when mixed with a solution of a colloidal substance, for example an aqueous solution of silioic acid, so that the salt is completely impregnated with the colloidal substance, one can obtain a composition which remains in a relatively dry state and does not absorb a greater amount of water.
According to the present invention, an aqueous solution of a colloid, for example silicic acid, can be added to an appropriate amount of a neutral salt, for example CaCl2, after the mass has been completely mixed and has reached a degree suitable for strength, it can be ground directly with a hydraulic binding material or it can be stored for subsequent use.
Portland cement, silicates, natural or artificial calcium silicates or other similar compounds, preferably finely ground, can also be dissolved in acids, especially hydrochloric acid, until neutral reaction. The resulting mass can be evaporated until it has reached the desired degree of solidity, to the resulting mass or solution, a salt, for example CaCl2 or an oxide, for example CaO, can also be added or a mixture thereof so that the mixture becomes solid.
CaCl2 can, however, also first be impregnated with this
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
pu mass of this solution, for example by grinding; The product can then be mixed with CaO or a mixture of CaO and CaSO4 and the mixture can be re-impregnated with the solution. It goes without saying that CaO or CaO and CaSO4 can also be impregnated first of all with the solution and then mixed with the salt or the salts previously impregnated.
Instead of CaO, fired dolomite or other oxides can be used.
Gelatinous silioic acid completely surrounds and permeates all the particles of the mass and thus protects the salts from moisture in the atmosphere.
If the positive catalytic agents are to be added to hydraulic binding materials which set quickly by themselves without reaching sufficient initial strength, known retarding salts such as CaSO4 are added as already mentioned in an amount suitable for the purpose. 'obtaining the desired normal setting time.
The positive catalytic agents which are the object of the present invention not only bring into play the bonding force and the setting capacity of the cements more quickly but also make it possible to obtain considerable improvements in terms of shrinkage and expansion. cements. Cements with a low lime percentage no longer even exhibit, when mixed with these oatalytic agents, the usual defect of being liable to disintegrate into sand.
These positive catalytic agents are very strong on storage and are stable in themselves and hydraulic binding materials ground with these agents or mixed with them in some other way can be.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
stored for a very long time without any loss of binding properties. These catalytic agents can be used in conjunction with hydraulic binding materials and mortars of all kinds.
