<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Pour plus de clarté, un exemple de réalisation d'une presse à mitraille et un procédé pour comprimer de la mitraille sont décrits ci-après à titre illustratif et non restrictif, référence étant faite aux dessins annexés dans lesquels : la figure 1 est une vue latérale schématique d'un dispositif de compactage pourvu d'une presse à mitraille selon l'invention, en position ouverte ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

Machine gun press and method for compacting machine gun with such press.
The invention relates to a machine-gun press of the type comprising an apron to which are articulated, on the one hand a first jaw delimited inwards by a flat wall adjacent to a curved wall and, on the other hand, a second jaw delimited towards the interior by two flat walls making an angle between them, and means for pivoting the first jaw between an open position in which its planar wall extends approximately the apron and a closed position in which this planar wall is approximately perpendicular to the deck, and means for pivoting the second jaw between an open position in which its first planar wall, adjacent to the deck, is directed laterally and a closed position in which its above-mentioned first planar wall is directed upward relative to the deck,
the dimensions of this latter planar wall and of the second planar wall of the second jaw as well as the shape of the curved wall being such that the free edge of the second planar wall moves, at least at the end of its pivoting towards its position closed, along the curved wall of the first jaw in the closed position.
By machine-gun press, it is necessary to understand, in a general way, all hydraulic or other presses and shears presses, making it possible to reduce in volume metallic elements such as rails, beams, assemblies, supports, bodies of cars and sheet metal works of all kinds.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
At the start, the scrap is in bulk and must register in the largest volume. Since the length is a constant, the cross-sectional area in the open position must be large, which is achieved by a press of the above kind.
In such presses, the grapeshot is placed on the deck while the jaws are in the open position.
The first jaw is first put in its closed position, positioning the machine gun and then the second jaw is put in the closed position compacting the machine gun to a section which is 3 to 4 times smaller than the initial section. Finally the compacted grapeshot is expelled from the press.
Such a grape press is described in Belgian patent no. 790,965.
In this press, in the open position, the flat walls adjacent to the apron extend horizontally in the extension of the apron, while in the closed position these walls extend at a right angle to the apron.
The two flat walls of the second jaw form a right angle therebetween and the two flat walls adjacent to the deck have the same width which is smaller than the width of the deck, which results in a rectangular section of the compacted scrap metal.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The compacted grapeshot is sheared out of the press and a cut of minimum width is desired. A rectangular section therefore has the disadvantage of having a relatively large width for a small height.
In addition, reducing the height requires a large compressive force.
It seems obvious to increase the height and decrease the width of the section so as to obtain a practically square section, or in other words to use a press of which all the flat walls have approximately the same width which is practically equal to the width of the deck.
However, it has been found that such a press is in practice not feasible since, in the closed position, the distance between the free edge of the curved wall of the first jaw and the second planar wall of the second jaw , extending horizontally just below the above curved wall, is much smaller than in a press giving a rectangular section.
Such a relatively small distance results in the second jaw being fragile.
The object of the invention is to remedy the above-mentioned drawbacks and to provide a press capable of compressing the grapeshot to a section whose width is of the order of maximum height and which therefore requires a relatively small compressive force, but in which the second jaw is very resistant.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This object is achieved by the fact that, perpendicular to the axis of articulation of the first jaw relative to the deck, the width of the planar wall of this first jaw is substantially equal to the width of the deck that the two planar walls of the second jaw make an angle greater than 900 between them and that the width of the first planar wall articulated to the deck, of this second jaw, is smaller than the width of the planar wall of the first jaw.
Such a press makes it possible to compress into a block of which the section is roughly trapezoidal.
Preferably, the angle between the flat walls of the second jaw and the width of the walls is such that in the closed position of the press, the extreme edge of the second jaw is located at the junction of the flat wall and the curved wall of the first jaw.
In its abovementioned closed position, the first flat wall of the second jaw extends perpendicular to the deck.
In a preferably applied embodiment, the means for pivoting the second jaw are means which can pivot this element further than the above closed position, that is to say to a final position in which the first plane wall of this second jaw articulated to the apron makes an angle less than 900 with the apron.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
This makes it possible to compress the grapeshot into a block having a section even smaller than the above trapezoidal section, which results in easier expulsion from the block.
The invention also relates to a method for compacting scrap metal according to which a press according to the aforementioned embodiment, and is used according to which the scrap metal is placed on the deck when the jaws are in the open position, first the first jaw is pivoted in the closed position with its planar wall practically perpendicular to the apron, then the second jaw is pivoted in its above-mentioned closed position with its first planar wall hinged to the apron also practically perpendicular to the latter, then the first jaw is slightly open and the second jaw is pivoted further along the first jaw until it reaches its final position,
the jaws are repositioned in their above-mentioned closed position with their flat walls adjacent to the apron practically perpendicular to the apron and the compacted grapeshot is expelled.
For clarity, an exemplary embodiment of a machine gun press and a method for compressing the machine gun are described below by way of illustration and not restrictively, reference being made to the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a view schematic side view of a compaction device provided with a grape press according to the invention, in the open position;
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Figure 2 shows a rear view of the press of Figure 1; Figures 3 to 7 schematically show views similar to that of Figure 2, but with only the apron and the jaws of the press, respectively in five successive phases of compaction.
In FIGS. 1 and 2 are diagrammatically represented the essential elements of a compacting device formed substantially from the combination of a press 1 proper and of a pusher device 2 for ejecting the compacted scrap from the press 1.
This compacting device can also be combined with a loading plate next to the grape press 1, and / or a crushing device and / or a shear at the outlet of the press 1.
The invention mainly relates to said press 1 which essentially comprises a horizontal apron 3, two jaws 4 and 5 articulated on the longitudinal edges of the apron 3 by respective axes 6 or 7 and means for pivoting these jaws 4 and 5 which in the example described consist of a number of hydraulic cylinders 8, respectively 9.
The first jaw 4 has the shape of a horn and is delimited internally by a planar wall 10 adjacent to the apron 3 and a curved wall il adjacent to the planar wall 10.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Perpendicular to the axis 6, the width L1 of the planar wall 10 is practically equal to the width L2 of the deck 3.
The curved wall 11 is a part of a cylindrical surface whose axis coincides with the geometrical pivot axis of the second jaw 5 relative to the deck 3.
The jaw 4 is pivotable relative to the deck 3 by means of the hydraulic cylinders 8 between an open position in which the flat wall 10 is horizontal and in the extension of the deck 3, and a closed position in which this flat wall 10 is perpendicular to deck 3 and is therefore vertical.
This jaw 4 is shown in the open position in FIGS. 1 to 3 and in the closed position in FIGS. 4,5 and 7.
The second jaw 5 forms a beak and is internally limited by a first planar wall 12 and a second planar wall 13 making an angle a between them which is greater than 900, and is for example 980.
Because of this obtuse angle, the second planar wall 13 has a width L3 which is smaller than the width L1 of the above-mentioned wall 10, while the first planar wall 12 has a width L4 slightly greater than the width L2 of the deck 3 .
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The jaw 5 is pivotable about 900 by the hydraulic cylinders 9 between an open position in which the second planar wall 13 is approximately vertical and the first planar wall 12 is inclined upward at an angle a - 900 relative to the deck 3, and a final position.
This jaw 5 is shown in the open position in FIGS. 1 to 4 and in the final position in FIG. 6.
Between these two positions, the jaw 5 is in a so-called closed intermediate position, in which the first planar wall 12 is perpendicular to the deck 3 and is therefore vertical and in which the end edge 13A of the second planar wall 13 is at the location of the junction between the walls 10 and 11 of the jaw 4.
The jaw 5 is shown in this closed position in FIGS. 5 and 7.
When the jaw 5 is pivoted relative to the apron 3 from its open position to its so-called closed position, the extreme edge 13A of the second outer planar wall 13 radiates at a certain moment on the curved part 11 or in other words, the extreme edge of the second planar wall 13 moves along the curved wall 11 of the jaw 4 when the latter is in the closed position.
The manner of compacting scrap metal, for example the body of a vehicle 14, using the above-mentioned press is illustrated in FIGS. 3 to 7.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The press 1 with the jaws 4 and 5 in the open position, and having a relatively large volume, is loaded by dumping with a vehicle body 14, as shown in FIG. 3.
First the first jaw 4 is pivoted in its closed position, positioning the body 14 and already compacting it partially, as shown in FIG. 4.
Then, the second jaw 5 is pivoted to its so-called closed position, in which it is shown in FIG. 5.
The cross section of the interior of the press 1 thus closed is reduced by 3 to 4 times compared to the cross section of the open press 1.
As shown in FIG. 5, this section is trapezoidal and smaller than a square whose sides have a length equal to the width L1 of the wall 10 which is equal to the width L2 of the deck 3.
Such a square is shown in broken lines in FIG. 5. The vertical distance Dl between the junction of the walls 12 and 13 of the jaw 5 and the curved wall 11 of the jaw 4 is greater than the distance D2 between the corner of the square located above the junction of the walls 12 and 13 and the curved wall 11, which has the result that the jaw 5 is solid.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
Since the widths L1 of the wall 10 and L4 of the first planar wall 12 are equal or almost equal to the width L2 of the deck 3, the vertical compressive force in the direction indicated by the arrow V is relatively small.
Before expelling the compacted body 14 using the pusher device 2, the jaw 4 is opened somewhat, in the example given by an angle of about 100 and the jaw 5 is pivoted further on the same angle, until the angle with the deck 3 is less than 900.
Therefore, as shown in Figure 6, the cross section of the interior of the press 1 is further reduced and the body 14 is made even more compact. 1 From the position shown in FIG. 6, the jaws 4 and 5 are repositioned in their above-mentioned closed position shown in FIG. 7.
The press 1 is then in its position shown in Figure 7. It is clear that the cross section of the interior of the press is now larger than the cross section of the compacted body 14.
The compacted car 14 can therefore move more easily inside the interior of the press 1, without significant friction against the walls 10 and 12 and the expulsion of this bodywork 14 is easier.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
It is obvious that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above, but that numerous modifications can be made to the press and to the process described above without departing from the scope of the invention. .
