<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"Dredging process and pontoon"
The present invention relates to a dredging process, in particular for deepening a bottom of a watercourse or a canal.
Various types of dredging are known currently used under such conditions. Considerable problems can appear during their implementation, in particular when it is a question of deepening a watercourse or a channel whose bottom comprises hard rock and / or concrete building elements (operation then called rock erosion).
In this case, it is known to use explosives or jackhammers or even hydraulic hammers, intended for breaking rocks, using masses of the order of fifteen tonnes. These very energetic means can have the very damaging drawbacks of disturbing and even jeopardizing neighboring constructions as well as aquatic fauna, causing unnecessary and even detrimental weakening, beyond the limits set, of the rock masses attacked and / or under- adjacent, as well as foundations of neighboring bridges and / or quay walls, etc.
The costs of implementing these types of dredging are therefore very high
There is also known a dredging means with a rotating tool, called a disaggregator, carried at the end of the sling and whose axis of rotation is aligned with the longitudinal direction of the sling. This dredging means has the disadvantage of not attacking whenever small bottom areas to be dredged and / or deepened The costs of implementing this means are therefore also very high
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The aim of the present invention is to overcome the problems set out above, and others known to those skilled in the art,
and to propose a process which respects the environment from the place where it is applied to attack hard rock and / or concrete while ensuring high-quality treatment of a large surface of the bottom in order to speed up operations and thus reduce the costs thereof.
To this end, the dredging method of the invention comprises milling the bottom by means of a cutter whose axis of rotation is arranged parallel to the bottom. By milling cutter is meant here one or more rotary tools, preferably coaxial, adapted to attack rock and stone or concrete using knives which they carry on their periphery of revolution.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, milling is carried out by placing the axis of the cutter transversely to the longitudinal direction of the stream or channel.
Preferably, simultaneous milling is carried out, and in the same place, aspiration of the elements released from the bottom of the watercourse or canal.
The invention also relates to a dredging pontoon, in particular for deepening a bottom of a watercourse or a canal, comprising a sling, one end of which is hinged to the pontoon.
Such a pontoon may for example be intended to implement the method of the invention.
According to the invention, the above pontoon is equipped with a cutter which is mounted at the other end of the strainer and whose axis of rotation is parallel to the above-mentioned bottom, at least in the dredging position.
Advantageously, the axis of rotation of the cutter is also perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pontoon
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In addition, the milling cutter may have two coaxial milling parts and arranged one on one side of the longitudinal axis of the shank and the other on the opposite side of this axis.
According to a very advantageous embodiment of the invention, there may be provided, on the one hand, an envelope carried by said other end of the strainer and arranged to surround the top and the lateral ends of the cutter and to leave free the underside of the latter for the purpose of milling the bottom and, on the other hand, suction means arranged to suction into the envelope, near the cutter,
water and especially debris from the bottom as they are detached from it during milling and to push at least the debris to a place where they are deposited.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the secondary claims and from the description of the drawings which are annexed to the present specification and which illustrate, by way of nonlimiting examples, the method and the pontoon according to the invention.
Figure 1 is a schematic side view of a pontoon of the invention, suitable for implementing the method of the invention.
Figure 2 is a schematic side view, on another scale, of the end of the strainer provided with the aforementioned cutter
Figure 3 is a schematic front view of the same end of the strainer provided with the aforementioned cutter.
Figure 4 is a plan view, taken from above, on another scale of a section of channel on which the pontoon of the invention is in use for the implementation of the method of the invention .
In the different figures, the same reference notations designate identical or analogous elements
The pontoon 1 of the invention (FIGS. 1 to 3), for dredging, deepening a channel or watercourse C or breaking up the bottom 7 of the latter, comprises a strain 2, known per se ,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
one end of which 3 is hingedly attached to the pontoon 1. In the examples below, the articulation is of the type allowing the elinde 2 to be lowered into the water and raised, its longitudinal axis (not shown) remaining in a vertical plane parallel to the longitudinal axis (not shown) of the pontoon 1.
According to the invention, the pontoon 1 is equipped with a cutter 4 which is mounted at the other end 5 of the strain 2, intended to be immersed during dredging. The axis of rotation 6 of the cutter 4 is chosen parallel to the bottom 7 to be dredged or deepened, at least in the dredging position.
The axis of rotation 6 can be arranged perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pontoon 1. Advantageously, the axis of rotation 6 is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the strain 2.
These two conditions merge for example in the case of the pontoon 1 shown in the drawings.
As shown in Figure 3, the cutter 4 may include, to facilitate construction and assembly and especially to balance the forces it transmits to the strain 2 during operation, two milling parts 8 coaxial and arranged l 'one on one side of the longitudinal axis of elinde 2 and the other on the opposite side of this axis.
The dredging pontoon 1 may also include a casing 10 which is carried by the other end 5 of the elind 2 and which is arranged to surround the top 11 and the lateral ends 12 of the cutter 4 and to leave the bottom 13 free of the latter so that it can mill the bottom 7. Suction means 14 known per se can then be arranged on the pontoon 1, possibly partly on the strainer 2 as shown in FIG. 2 where a pump, to suck in the casing 10, near the cutter 4, water and especially the debris from the bottom 7 as they are detached during milling
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
and to drive at least the debris to a place where they are deposited, for example a barge or a spreading ground.
The casing 10 may advantageously include a front part 15, in a direction of advance of the pontoon 1 during milling, which is preferably fixed to the elind 2 and whose lower edge 16 of casing 10 is disposed at a determined distance from the bottom 7.
Then, a rear part 17 of the casing 10 can be provided, mounted on the elind 2 or on the said front part 15, so that it can be moved relative to the latter so that its lower edge 18 d ' envelope 10 can be adjusted to another determined distance from the bottom 7. For each part 15, 17, a position is shown in solid lines, another position is shown in broken lines. The rear part 17 preferably comprises a zone 19 of internal or external overlap of the front part 15 so that, for a determined adjustment range of this other distance, there is no discontinuity in the envelope 10 between these two parts 15 and 17, in particular as regards the internal volume of the casing 10 intended to be subjected to the above-mentioned suction.
It goes without saying that the concept of anterior and posterior is used here only for the ease of description of the elements. Those skilled in the art could prefer, depending on the circumstances, other arrangements of the envelope, without departing from the scope of the invention.
The dredging method of the invention comprises milling the bottom 7 of a watercourse or a channel C by means of a cutter 4 whose axis of rotation 6 is arranged parallel to the bottom 7.
Milling is carried out preferably by placing the axis of the cutter 4 transversely to the longitudinal direction (not indicated in the drawings) of the stream or channel C.
It is advantageous to perform the milling, as shown in Figure 4.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
For example (Figures 1 and 4), the pontoon 1 is secured to the banks or banks R, in known manner, by cables 21 so as to position it relative to these and by a cable 22 to hold it in place at against the current represented by arrow 23. The end 5, of the elind 2, which carries the cutter 4 points upstream of a stream or channel C to be deepened. The cutter 4 is rotated in the preferred direction 24, so as to push the pontoon 1 in the same direction as the current 23 and to help keep the cable 22 in tension.
By acting in a known manner on the cables 21 and 22, it is possible to effect, by means of the pontoon 1, by the cutter 4, during a first period, a milling of the bottom 7 during a first transverse movement 25 d 'one bank R to the other. Arrived at the latter, the pontoon 1 is advanced during a second period, according to a longitudinal displacement 26, for example 30 cm in the opposite direction to that 23 of the current, so as to "plane" the bottom as precisely as possible 7. A new transverse movement 27, similar to the previous transverse movement 25 but in the opposite direction, can then be undertaken during a new first period, and so on.
It should be understood that the present invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described and that many modifications can be made to these without departing from the scope of the claims which follow
Thus, counter-current dredging is also possible with the pontoon 1 of the invention, a traction cable (not shown) which can then be fixed to the rear of the pontoon 1 to keep the latter in place despite the current, for example when the cutter 4 no longer pulls the pontoon 1 in the opposite direction to the current as is the case when the cutter 4 rotates in the opposite direction to that indicated by the arrow 24.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Thus also, it is advantageously possible simultaneously to milling and in the same place where it takes place a suction of the elements released from the bottom 7 of the stream or channel C, for example using the casing 10 and suction means 14 mentioned above.
The direction of rotation 24 chosen for the cutter 4 determines, as shown in Figure 2, the construction of the casing 10 at least as regards the position of the suction pipe.
The sling 2 can be operated in a known manner using a winch. The weight of the rope 2, the cutter 4 and its rotation motor, the suction means 14 suspended from the rope 2, etc. may be sufficient for pressing the cutter 4 on the bottom 7 during milling. Additional means, such as hydraulic cylinders, can however be envisaged to increase this pressing on the bottom 7 according to the needs of the moment.
The present invention has the advantage of being able to be applied not only to new pontoons but also for, for example, the reconversion of old bucket dredges including inter alia the positioning and displacement systems by means of five cables, folded at three meters below the surface of the water, and maneuvering the rope 2 remain usable.
During milling, the level of the milling cutter 4 can be permanently checked by a known rotary laser device, installed on a bank so as to be independent of variations in the water level during milling measurements and operations.
