<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
EMI4.1

We know, by DE-C-3. 006.
512, cold-rolled, deep-wear, wear-resistant products that consist of steel that contains 0.7-0.9% C, 0.2-2.0% Si,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
0.2 to 1.0% Mn, 2.5 to 3.5% Cr, 0.5 to 2.0% Mo, 0.7 to 1.5% Ni and 0, 1 to 0.8% of V. In this case, the safety against rupture of the rolled products is ensured by a mild cooling agent, such as an oil, after the austenization. As a result, these steels must be alloyed with Ni up to 1.5% to reach the sufficient quench depth. The wear resistance is obtained by the addition of V up to 0.8%.
Vanadium does not form, in alloy steels, pure vanadium carbides of the VC type but mixed carbides (MC) in which other alloying elements such as chromium and molybdenum are also dissolved. These are partially dissolved during the quenching of the rolled products and thereby release in their environment high carbon contents in the bottom mass. This leads to unwanted local stabilization of residual austenite. Therefore, on the one hand the danger of breaks and tension cracks is increased and, on the other hand, the wear resistance is reduced.
The invention therefore aims to create a steel for cold rolling with increased wear resistance.
It is proposed for this purpose, in accordance with the invention, the use for this purpose of a steel containing (in% by mass)

Cold rolled products are reached in particular, with cylinder table diameters up to 900 mm and cylinder table widths up to 3000 mm, which reach, after solution annealing (austenization between 800 and 1000 C) followed by hard quenching, a quenching depth of up to 30mm, related to 60 Rockwell C hardness (700 Vickers 30 hardness) for cylinder diameters of 600
EMI3.3
mm.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
EMI4.1
The steel according to the invention has a bottom mass in which are deposited almost insoluble niobium carbides (NbC). Cold rolled products made from this steel, preferably with cylinder table diameters up to 900 mm and cylinder table widths up to 3000 mm, are annealed in solution between 800 and 1000 C and suddenly soaked. It is thus possible to reach great depths of quenching. The niobium carbides deposited in the bottom mass are not influenced by austenization and in this case do not modify the quenchability of the rolled products nor do they increase the residual austenite content by the release of carbide. This reduces the danger of voltage cracks and ruptures which can lead to serious accidents and damage.
On the contrary, the wear resistance, which is generated by the niobium carbides deposited in the matrix and having a hardness of approximately 3000 Vickers hardness, remains fully obtained.
An addition of up to 2.0% tungsten can further increase the hardness and wear resistance of the rolled products. An addition of up to 0.050% B increases the hardness, quench depth and fine grain structure of the steel.
FIG. 1 represents the surface hardness and the quenching depth, on the one hand for a steel according to the invention and on the other hand for a known steel, the analyzes of which are contained in Table 2 below: Table 2

With the same surface hardness of 800 Vickers 30 hardness, the hardness only drops to 700 Vickers 30 hardness, for a cold rolled product in the steel to be used according to the invention only at a depth of 30 mm compared to 20 mm for known comparison steel 1.2327.
The average increase in yield which has been obtained for the rolled products of steel according to the invention due to the reduced abrasion is approximately 20% during the rolling of steel.
Additional advantages result from the fact that the longer lifetimes of the rolls and their increased resistance to breakage and cracking reduce the downtime of the rolling trains associated with the exchange of the rolls.
