<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Method for connecting a pipe in the wall of a concrete tank.
The present invention relates to a method for connecting a pipe in the wall of a concrete tank.
In civil engineering, we often have to ensure a connection between a pipe made of thermoplastic material or any other material and a concrete tank. Such cases arise in particular when carrying out sewers or rainwater storage facilities in tanks or reservoirs.
In current practice, to make such a connection, it is generally sufficient, when making the tank to drown a suitable connection piece, generally made of thermoplastic material, in its wall and then to ensure the connection of the pipe by the intermediate of this connecting piece. However, it has been noted that, in this case, the connection piece can be deformed, in particular by the heat given off when setting the concrete, which leads to faulty connections and risks causing rejection during reception.
The applicant has now developed a method for connecting a pipe in the wall of a concrete tank which eliminates this drawback and leads to very satisfactory results.
The present invention therefore relates to a method for connecting a pipe in the wall of a concrete tank, characterized in that: - a) there is provided in the wall of the tank a circular opening of diameter substantially equal to the external diameter of the pipe to be connected, said opening having, on the side of the internal wall of the tank, an annular flange forming a stop for the end of the pipe to be connected and, from the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on the side of the external wall of the tank, two stepped annular housings which can receive one, an annular seal and the other, a closure ring, - b) an annular seal and a closure ring are placed in the housings provided, - c) there is a connection between the closure ring and the tank wall and - d)
the pipe is inserted into the opening so that its end contacts the flange.
In the process according to the invention the pipe to be connected can be made of any conventional material such as metal, plastics, etc., the process being however particularly advisable for the connection of pipes made of thermoplastic materials such as polyolefins and vinyl resins.
The diameter of the opening provided in the wall of the tank must be such that it easily allows the insertion of the pipe to be connected into this opening.
The closure ring is preferably made of thermosetting or thermoplastic plastic, but the use of other materials, such as for example concrete, is by no means excluded. The internal diameter of the closure ring is slightly greater than the external diameter of the pipe to be connected so as to easily allow the passage of this pipe through this ring.
The connection between this closure ring and the tank wall can be ensured by any means and in particular by gluing, by elastic clipping, by screwing, etc.
The sealing ring can be made of any traditional material and in particular of synthetic elastomer. It is generally preferred that the internal diameter of this ring is slightly less than the external diameter of the pipe to be connected in such a way that in service the seal, by elastic deformation, firmly encloses the external wall of the pipe.
The closing ring and the sealing ring can be placed in their respective housing as soon as the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tank or when connecting the hose, the latter variant being preferred.
In the process according to the invention the thickness of the rim provided in the wall of the tank and the height of the housings for the seal and for the closure ring can vary depending on the diameter of the pipe to be connected and are generally between 10 and 100 mm and preferably between 20 and 50 mm. If necessary, the wall of the tank to be connected can be reinforced at the connection.
The diameter of the rim provided in the wall of the tank is substantially equal to or less than the internal diameter of the pipe to be connected in such a way that the latter does not obstruct the fluid conveyed by the pipe.
The method according to the invention is particularly suitable for connecting rainwater collection pipes to a storage tank but it is obvious that it can also be suitable for other applications.
The process according to the invention is further illustrated by the practical embodiment which follows and in which reference is made to the single figure of the appended drawing which gives a sectional view of a connection according to l 'invention usable in particular for a pipe made of polyvinyl chloride.
As it appears in the figure, to connect, according to the method of the invention, a pipe (3) in the wall of a concrete tank (1), provision is made, during the production of the latter, the presence in its wall of a circular opening (2) of diameter substantially equal to the external diameter of the pipe (3) to be connected. This opening (2) has, on the side of the internal wall of the tank, an annular rim (4) and, on the side of the external wall of the tank, two stepped annular housings (6), (7) which can receive one, one annular seal (8) and the other, a closure ring (9).
In the illustrated device, the thickness of the wall (1) of the tank is 140 mm, the heights (11) (12) of the housings (6) (7) for the annular seal and for the ring of closure are equal
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
25 mm and the distance (13) between the rim (4) and the base of the first housing is equal to 65 mm, the thickness of the rim therefore rising to 25 mm.
The internal diameter of the annular flange (4) is substantially equal to the internal diameter of the pipe (3) to be connected. The annular sealing ring (8) has an internal diameter slightly less than the external diameter of the pipe to be connected and the closure ring (9), made of polyvinyl chloride, has an internal diameter which is slightly greater than the external diameter of this pipe.
To ensure the connection, the annular sealing ring (8) and the closing ring (9) are successively placed in their respective housings (6) (7), then the connection between the closing ring is ensured. (9) and the wall (1) of the tank, for example by gluing, so as to trap the annular sealing ring (8) in its housing (7) and finally, the pipe (3) to be connected is inserted in the opening (2) through the sealing ring and the closing ring so that its end (5) comes into contact with the flange
