<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Sweep set
The present invention relates to a wiper assembly for windshield wipers of motor vehicles or the like, comprising an arm intended to be connected by one of its ends to a motor control device and carrying an assembly constituting the wiper blade. 'other end.
In most sweeping sets of the type defined above, the brush is detachably connected to the arm in order to allow its possible replacement. Very recently, sweeping assemblies have appeared on the market in which the brush is no longer removable and remains permanently connected to the arm. In these assemblies, restoration of the operation of the brush, in the event of wear, is carried out quite simply by dismantling and replacing the rubber wiper blade of the brush.
Such a scanning assembly is known, for example, from the Italian utility model application no. 53549-B / 87 filed in the name of the same applicant. The problem on which the present invention is based was to manufacture a sweeping assembly of the aforementioned type, which had a lighter and more compact structure compared to known sweeping assemblies and which, therefore, was more suitable for application in single arm wipers and which was therefore designed to make brush replacement operations more convenient, practical and easy in the event of wear.
In accordance with the present invention, the problem thus posed has been solved by the subdivision of the arm into two sections or longitudinal parts mutually connected using a joint of the insertion type and interconnected by removable retaining means.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This idea of solution makes it possible to manufacture the arm using various materials: metal for the support part, that is to say that which is intended to be connected to the motorized control device and plastic material for the part to which the brush is permanently connected which also has a structure made of plastic.
It is thus possible to significantly reduce the mass of the complete wiper assembly, which can therefore advantageously be used for wipers with a single arm, which must operate even at high angular speed across scanning fields. on a scale close to 180. The insertion type connection between the two parts or sections of the arm gives it the necessary qualities of rigidity and structural robustness, thus making the operations of removal and replacement of the section supporting the brush extremely easy and rapid.
According to a first embodiment of the invention, the two parts of the arm have channel-shaped profiles which engage each other telescopically and the aforementioned removable retaining means consist of a transverse pin intended to unite the two parts or sections, which is shaped with a circumferential central groove in which engages, with snap-fastening, an elastic retaining fork which is formed in a retaining element inserted in the cavity of the arm.
The retaining element advantageously comprises a gripping piece profiled in the shape of a channel and which extends from the back of the arm, facilitating the operation of its disengagement from the spindle, in order to allow its extraction and disassembly. subsequent to the section of the arm carrying the brush, as also the subsequent reassembly of a new part with brush.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
According to another embodiment of the invention, one of the two parts of the arm has a channel-shaped profile inside which is fixed a retaining element in the form of an elastic strip, provided with a locking piece. , however, that the other part or section of the arm engages telescopically in this channel-shaped profile and has a positioning part with which the locking part of the retaining strip can cooperate.
This retaining strip conveniently has one end for the operation, which is accessible from the cavity of said part or section in profile or in the form of a channel, in order to disengage said positioning and locking parts.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings which are provided only by way of non-limiting example and in which: - Figure 1 shows a view in partial longitudinal cross-section of a scanning assembly in accordance with the present invention, - Figure 2 illustrates the detail indicated in Figure 2 by arrow II, on an enlarged scale, - Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view of Figure 2, - Figure 3a represents an alternative of a detail in FIG. 3, - FIG. 4 represents a cross-sectional view taken along the line IV-IV of FIG. 2, - FIG. 5 represents an alternative of FIG. 2,
- Figure 6 shows an exploded perspective view of Figure 5 and
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
- Figure 7 shows a cross-sectional view taken along line VII-VII of Figure 5.
Referring more particularly to FIGS. 1 to 4, it can be seen that the reference notation 1 designates, from generic material, a wiper assembly according to the invention for windscreen wipers of motor vehicles and the like.
The scanning assembly 1 comprises an arm 2 which has, at one of its ends, an articulated mounting head 3 for the insertion of the operating shaft (not illustrated) of a known motorized control device. An elastic element 4 tends, also in a known manner, to maintain the head 3 and the arm 2 in the state of mutual alignment shown in FIG. 1.
At its other end, the arm 2 carries a wiper blade 5 which is permanently connected to the arm by means of a hinge rivet 6 in the example illustrated, the blade 5 comprises, so as itself known, a main wiper blade support 7, at one end of which is hinged a secondary wiper blade support 8. The free end of the support 7 and the ends of the support 8 also support in a manner known per se, the wiping blade 9 made of an elastomeric material.
It should be noted that the brush 5 could be different and correspond, for example, to that described and illustrated in the Italian utility model application NO 53549-B / 87 already mentioned and where consideration is given to the use of a spring lever for the connection between the wiping blade 9 and the arm 2.
According to the invention, the arm 2 is subdivided into two parts or longitudinal sections 10, 11, the first of which carries the mounting head 3 and constitutes, by
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Consequently, the support element of the scanning assembly 1 and the second carries the brush 5.
Part 10 is usually made of metal, while part 11, like also components 7 and 8 of the brush 5, is made of compressed plastic.
As FIGS. 3 and 4 illustrate it still better, the two parts 10 and 11 of the arm 2 have a corresponding profile in the form of a channel. The end of the part 11 which faces the part 10 is produced with an extension 12 of reduced cross section, which is inserted longitudinally, by a telescopic connection, into the cavity of the corresponding end of the part 10. A their respective side walls, the extension 12 and this end of the part 10 have corresponding holes 13, 14 through which a transverse retaining pin 15 passes.
The spindle 15 has a central and circumferential groove 16 into which engages, by a snap connection, an elastic fork 17 which is shaped in a retaining element, which is also usually made of a plastic material, inserted in the cavity of the arm 2. It is clear that the fork 10 of the retaining element 18 prevents the spindle 15 from sliding transversely relative to the arm 2.
In order to release the spindle 15, thus allowing its removal and the separation of the two parts 10 and 11 of the arm 2, it is only necessary to disengage the fork 17 relative to the groove 16 of the spindle 15, by pulling the element of retaining 18 towards the outside of the cavity of the arm 2. In order to facilitate this maneuver, the retaining element 18 comprises a knurling grip piece 19 which projects outside the arm 2. This grip piece 19 is
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
shaped with a central cavity 20 whose role is to avoid, during the operation of the brush assembly 1, any interference with the brush 5 and, in particular with the support element 8 thereof.
In addition, the retaining element 18 may comprise a lateral projection coming from material 19a (sic) which can be used, after removing the element 18, to push the pin 15 outwards without being necessary to use auxiliary tools (Figure 3a).
The alternative illustrated by FIGS. 5 to 7 is, as a whole, similar to the embodiment previously described and only the differences will be described in detail, using the same reference notations for identical or similar parts.
According to this alternative, the part or section 10 of the arm 2 also has a cross-section in the form of a channel having free edges coming from the tower 10a and, in the cavity of its end zone, an elastic strip 22, which has a locking hole 23, is fixed with a rivet 21 (sic).
The other part or section 11 has a reduced extension 24 from which protrudes a positioning extension 25. The extension 24 engages telescopically in the cavity of the part 10 and is locked axially relative to the latter, under the effect of the engagement of the extension 25 in the hole 23 of the strip 21. As shown in FIG. 5, the free end 26 of the strip 21 extends beyond the extension 24 of section 11 and serves as an operating element, which is accessible from inside the cavity of the part 10, for elastically deforming the strip 21 in the position shown in broken lines in FIG. 5, so as to release the extension 25 from the hole 23 and at
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
allow the separation of the two parts 10 and 11.
It is obvious that the scope of the present invention also extends to models which achieve similar utility by using the same innovative idea.
