Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Chain drive system, specific to delimbing heads after felling.
The present invention relates to machines designed for delimbing trees in the forest directly after felling and relates to a chain drive system specific to a delimbing head such as that described in patent application BE-8800878.
With a delimbing head according to said patent application, a shaft chain or gaLL chain running along a smooth metal plate was used as the chain drive system of the shaft, with the shafts symmetrical with respect to their Longitudinal axis and with the lower part of a house identical to its upper part. Such a drive system requires significant damage to the motors due to the friction causing wear and overheating of the parts in contact.
Tests were then carried out on a head to be branched off with a conventional chain, but using lugs. Here again, we were faced with premature wear of the chain huts and also the bearings of the rollers.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In order to overcome these drawbacks, it seemed advantageous according to the invention to create a drive system characterized in that it consists of a raceway formed by free gaLets, on which a chain with gAllons of the GaLLe chain type, whose upper part of the house is hollowed out as in a conventional chain but whose lower part is flat over its entire length.
To better understand the invention, this is now described in greater detail on the basis of the appended drawing, by way of example only, showing an elevation view of a portion of the drive system according to the invention.
The drive system comprises a raceway formed by Free rollers 1, mounted on bearings.
On this raceway slides a chain with 2 HOOKS of the GaLLe chain type with a Longitudinal axis XX ′. The upper part 3 ′ of the housings 3 is hollowed out in its middle place as in a conventional chain, while the lower part 3 "is flat over its entire length, in such a way that the whole of the housings 3 of the chain 2 forms a pLane bottom surface.
One contact out of two between gaLet 1-May 3 arbre tree to be branched 4 is made along the same transverse axis, that is to say that the pressure axis P of the shaft merge, the transverse axis YY ' of house 3 and the transverse axis ZZ of roller 1.
The other roller-link contact is made in the center of a house, The pressure P of the shaft acting symmetrically on either side of this contact and always in the axes YY 'of this same house.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This process is constantly reproduced, since the advancement of the tree during delimbing is carried out by a group of two trains of endless chains subjected to a rotational movement and arranged on either side of L ' tree.
With a drive system according to the invention there is a gain in efficiency of 30 to 40% with reduction in friction, reduction in wear of the parts in contact, reduction in heating and less torque at the motors.
