Abstract

A casing (1) holds a case reflector (2) with an open underside. A high-pressure gas discharge lamp (4) positioned in the case reflector in a horizontal focal position fits crosswise to the longitudinal direction of a luminous surface to produce a longish bright area. The case reflector generates batwing light distribution crosswise to the lamp's longitudinal axis. Underneath the gas discharge lamp there is a screening effect (5) that reduces direct light radiation on an area of the luminous surface lying directly underneath the high-pressure gas discharge lamp.
