Process for splitting mica and mica-like minerals.

So far, mica has only been split by hand. Attempts to perform this cleavage by machine have so far not led to any satisfactory results. However, since the avoidance of manual cleavage is of great value for the mica industry, the applicant has developed a method which makes it possible to use even inferior and small material, which was previously almost unusable, by the cleavage by the use of suitable reagents certain temperatures is made possible. The procedure is carried out as follows:
Mica is left to lie for a long time in an atmosphere of carbonic acid or carbonic acid-rich Gaee, then immediately placed in strong alkali (caustic soda) and left for some time until the pieces are well soaked.

The mica is then taken out, heated to around 300-4000 C, the still hot material thrown into cold water or, more conveniently, into a dilute acid solution. After this treatment, the pieces split slightly according to the main split direction
 EMI1.1
The thinnest flakes disintegrate, which can then be separated from each other by mud.

Claims (1)

**WARNUNG** Ende CLMS Feld Kannt Anfang DESC uberlappen**. PATENT CLAIM: Method for splitting mica and mica-like minerals, characterized in that the work material, after pretreatment with carbonic acid or carbonated gases, is soaked with strong alkali, after removing the excess alkali, heated to 300-400 ° C and then thrown into cold water or diluted acids is deterred. ** WARNING ** End of CLMS field may overlap beginning of DESC **.
