Description

Process for the production of sodium decaborate. The present invention relates to a process for the digestion of boron atrocalcite (South American Borkalk). The processes used to date to break down this substance in larger scale, namely on the one hand the treatment with soda solution for borax extraction and on the other hand, treatment with copious amounts. of sch @ vefelsäure or of Hydrochloric acid for obtaining crystallized boric acid are relatively inconvenient and tedious; in addition, when using the second method, the in alkali contained in the starting material only. the relatively little valuable sulfuric acid Baking soda. The new process has proven to be superior in all of these respects.

G m e 1 i n - K r a u t, Handbuch der anorganischen Chemie, 7. According to the invention, the boronatrocalcite is used together with only one such a large amount either of water and sulfuric acid or of thin lye (e.g. B. dilute aqueous boric acid solution of 5 to 6 ° Be) and sulfuric acid added, that no acidic reaction takes place, and heated to about 75 °. It part As a result, a sludge consisting of calcium sulphate and unaffected Borkallc exists, while on the one hand in the alkali which is easy to separate from this sludge Na20 # 5 B20 # 1o, H20 (Natriurndekaborat) (see G m e 1 i n - K r a u t, manual of inorganic chemistry, 7th edition, II, 1, p. q.21). and on the other hand something free Boric acid is included. This salt and boric acid can easily be separated from one another Separate by removing the salt by evaporation and by treating in a cold agitator to be eliminated. The above-mentioned sludge is mixed with a thin boric acid solution and so much sulfuric acid that an acid reaction takes place, the residue exists only from calcium sulphate sludge, that of the boric acid lye through filtering and washing out can be separated to a neutral reaction. Boric acid can be obtained through the Separate the cold agitator from the boric acid solution. That through the present process recoverable sodium decaborate is a comparatively fourth full substance, e.g. B. for the manufacture of iron enamel; Nothing stands in the way of borax from this salt to win.
