Tanning process for the production of chrome leather.
The present invention relates to a tanning process by means of which chrome-tanned leather is to be slipped and made nailable, which has not been the case before.
This process consists of a multi-bath tanning process. u. between the nakedness in 3 baths

EMI1.4
Water glass and linseed oil are fully saturated. One liter of solution is calculated per 1 kg of pelt. This is followed by the treatment with bath 2, in which a linosein and silicate are formed through the action of calcium chloride or chemically similar salts and permanganate, which then gives the leather a non-slippery surface during the subsequent tanning process, even when wet.
Instead of potassium permanganate, other similarly acting oxidizing agents can be used.
The purpose of the treatment with calcium chloride and permanganate is to make the leather nailable
EMI1.5
is that when a drill is driven into the leather, as with all previously known methods. closes the drill hole immediately after removing the drill. instead an open hole remains so that the leather has become well nailed. Such a leather is not yet known and the present process represents a great advance in the production of chrome leather products.
The third bath with chrome alum and iron vitriol, which is known per se. aims in connection with the previous procedure to bring about the consolidation.
After tanning, the leather is optionally neutralized with borax. The actual finishing work follows the germ process. In the following, only an example of finishing the leather is described: The leather is separated on the grain with linseed oil. stretched and dried on the frame and removed and possibly with a solution of gelatin
EMI1.6
The leather produced in this way does not slip even when wet and has completely lost its rubbery character after this treatment. In addition, the above-mentioned process makes it possible to make the leather suitable for wood nailing, which is a major step forward compared to the known processes.
