Additive for baths or base for the same.
It is already known to use the alkali salts of humic acids as an additive for baths or as a base for such an additive. This use of the huminal took place in the form of a peat extract, which, however, contains all humic acids, including acids that experience has shown to be harmful to the skin.
The invention now consists in using the alkali salts of hymatomelanic acid as an additive for baths or as a base for such an additive instead of raw peat extract, thereby avoiding any effect on the skin.
The additive or base can be made from peat or other suitable material. The peat is first subjected to a pretreatment, which consists of breaking it up, working it through with the addition of water and heating it to around 100 ° C. or, if necessary, freezing it out with subsequent heating.
The mass is then extracted with alkalis as well as alkali carbonate or alkali hydroxide, sodium sulfide or sodium sulfhydrate (if desired after releasing poorly soluble humates by acid treatment), whereby the alkali humates go into solution. The extracted humic acids are separated out by adding acid to the separated alkali humate solution.
With this in mind, the separated humic acids are treated with a suitable extractant, preferably alcohol. The dissolved humus substance, mainly hymatomelanic acid, is then isolated by evaporating or diluting the solvent.
After the substances obtained in this way have been washed out, if alcohol has been used as the extractant, mostly hymatomelanic acid, these are dissolved in alkali hydroxide, preferably in sodium or lithium hydroxide or both, whereby the additive or the base material is completed for the same.
