Labyrinth seal and process for its manufacture.
The invention relates to a labyrinth seal by means of sets of concentric rings.
According to the invention, at least one set of the rings consists of sheet metal and is provided with sheet metal flanges which are connected to one another in such a way that they form a supporting member from which the rings protrude at a distance from one another. This pack is effective and easy and inexpensive to manufacture.
In the drawing, FIG. 1 shows an exemplary embodiment of the invention, partially in section; Fig. 2 is a view of a packing element, Fig. 3 is a section of the same.
5 indicates a rotating shaft. z. B. the shaft of a steam or gas turbine. 6 indicates a stationary part with an opening 7 through which the shaft passes, between which part 6 and the shaft a flow is to be prevented. Part 6 may z. B. be part of the housing of the turbine. A plurality of ring disks 8 are provided on the shaft 5. from which concentric rings 9 protrude in spaces. In the present case three ring disks 8 are shown, of which the middle has rings 9 on both sides. However, it goes without saying. that any suitable number of these can be used.
The washers 8 are held on the shaft between the flange 70 and a nut 11 which goes over a threaded portion 10 of the shaft and are separated by collars 13, which are, however, made in one piece with the washers

each includes a plurality of rings 15 which cooperate with rings 9. The pacification structure 14 is formed from a number of packing elements, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. Every element
EMI1.2
Packing structure is created by assembling the packing elements with flanges touching one another and then riveting them together (rivets 17, FIG. 1).
Each ring 1 1 advantageously has an edge 18 turned inwards or outwards, so that the rings, when the pack is assembled, form very narrow spaces with the rings 9. Because these edges are thin, if they touch the closest rings they will wear out quickly. The rings 15 will also be resilient to some extent, which is desirable. The packing structures 14 are formed by an annular shoulder piece. M and a locking ring 20 held and held by corresponding pieces 21 at the desired distance from each other. 22 indicates a tube through which any security through the pack is to escape. This pipe can lead to any convenient point.
The structure described above has the advantage that the packing elements, which consist of the rings 15 and the bottles 16, can also be pressed from sheet metal and easily assembled. Only the fixed part of the packing is shown formed from pressed material, but it goes without saying that the rotating part can be produced in the same way as well.
