Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for the production of solid formaldehyde solutions.
The remarkable observation was made that solutions of lactic acid lime are excellently suited to absorb formaldehyde, to hold it when solidifying and when
EMI1.1
for example as follows:
In 500 g of formaldehyde solution with about 35 percent by weight of formaldehyde, slightly more than the same amount, i.e. about 600 to 700 g of powdered lactic acid lime, is dissolved by heating on the reflux condenser. The temperature should not exceed 90 C if possible. The result is a colorless, syrupy liquid which, after standing for several hours in the cold, solidifies to a white, hard, crystalline mass which is easily soluble in water and easily splits off formaldehyde in warmed water.
The formaldehyde content of this mass was determined to be about 12% in the fresh state.
One can also proceed in such a way that one dissolves lactic acid lime in a small amount of warm water and then introduces formaldehyde or, more appropriately, adds it.
The product is kept in a sealed bottle, has a good shelf life and can be processed into a wide variety of preparations in the powdered state, e.g. B. mixed with milk sugar, flour, lime and similar filler material to form tablets or pills, which can be used as internally applied disinfectants. The product can also be easily processed with disinfectants to be used outside.
