<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for the production of double compounds of urea with sodium iodine.
If aqueous solutions of urea and sodium iodine are heated, then with a precipitant, e.g. B. chloroform, ether, etc., or the solvent slowly evaporates under normal or reduced pressure, double compounds of urea with sodium iodine are obtained. Depending on the quantities used - urea: sodium iodine - compounds are formed which contain the components in different molecular proportions.
The products obtained in this way are intended to find therapeutic use. They are characterized by the fact that they are well tolerated even in large quantities, which is a particular advantage over the behavior of pure iodine-alkalis.
The preparation of compounds between 1, 2 and 4 moles of urea with 1 mole of sodium iodine each is described below.
EMI1.1
will.
A compound of 1 mole of iodealeium with 6 moles of urea, which has the same effect as the iodine alkalis, is described (c. 1918, I, 231). Here only iodealium is combined with urea, since it was believed that the use of iodine alkalis should be avoided at all.
Example 1: A suspension of 100 g of urea in about 750 g of acetone is shaken after adding 250 g of sodium iodine. The resulting solution is then heated to boiling for about two hours and then the solvent is evaporated off in vacuo at low temperature. A white crystal powder remains, which consists of a compound of 1 mol. Urea with 1 mol. Sodium iodine and is easily soluble in water and alcohol.
Example 2: 250 g of sodium iodine are dissolved in about 150 g of water and mixed with a solution of 200 g of urea in 250 g of water. After the water has been driven off in vacuo at low temperature, a white crystal powder is obtained which is a compound of 2 mol. Urea with 1 mol. Sodium iodine and dissolves easily in water and alcohol.
Example 3: A mixture of 200 g urea and 125 g sodium iodine is moistened with alcohol, then heated to about 80 and the alcohol is allowed to evaporate in a desiccator. The result is a syrup which gradually solidifies and can then be easily powdered. The product obtained in this way represents a combination of 1 mol. Sodium iodine with 4 mol. Urea.
In a similar way, urea-iodine-sodium compounds, which have an even higher urea content, can also be produced.
