Grooved sleeve for electrical machines.
The grooved sleeves for electrical high-voltage machines have so far mostly been made of micanite. Due to the lack of raw mica, the manufacture of micanite tubes is difficult. The known tubes made of chipboard, paper or the like, which are manufactured with a suitable adhesive, for example shellac or synthetic resin, in the winding process, are destroyed after a short time as a result of the glow discharges occurring at high voltages. This is due to the fact that when glow discharges occur, the vegetable parts of the pipe char; glow discharges occur at high voltages, as is well known, when the electrical field between the conductor and the surrounding iron must penetrate an air gap in addition to the insulating material.
According to the invention, the tubes wound in a known manner receive a tightly glued metal coating both inside and outside. During production, it must be ensured above all that there is not the slightest amount of air between the material of the pipe and the metal coating. Since the outer metallic coating assumes the potential of iron, the inner one the potential of the metallic conductor, all field lines run exclusively through the insulation material, so that glow discharges are no longer possible.
The figure shows an example of the arrangement. It denotes 1 the wound tube, 2 the inner, 3 the outer metal coating.
