 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

According to the process for the production of varnish from semi-dry oils, such as Tran and the like, for the oilcloth and linoleum industry, which became known through patent specification no. 72236, the oil's share of free fatty acids is initially mixed with soda. or potassium hydroxide solution, separated from the unsaponified oil and the pure,
 EMI1.2
If the free fatty acids are separated out using solutions of alkali carbonates, alkaline earth hydrates, hydroxides and heavy metal oxides, dip metal soaps are formed.

When using such solutions, for example acid baryta, etc., the separation of the oil freed from fatty acids from the saponified fats may be easier a) s with the formation of alkali soap, since the separation of the oil from the soap takes place in precisely defined zones. The oils used for the production of varnish, such as oil, etc., are mixed in a cold or moderately warm state with appropriately concentrated solutions of the alkaline earth metal hydrates or alkali carbonates in an amount corresponding to the percentage of free fatty acid and stirred thoroughly. The alkali soap solutions can also be precipitated with aqueous solutions of the metal salts for the purpose of obtaining heavy metal soaps.

The soap solution formed settles in the bottom so that the oil freed from the free fatty acids can be drawn off.

The pure oil is boiled or polymerized with or without a drying agent using known methods to form a varnish. All additives commonly used in the preparation of varnishes can be added to the varnish before, during or after cooking.
