    Replacement media for leather.

The invention relates to a substitute for leather, which is particularly suitable for the production of objects in which the strength, stability and water-tightness of the material are of greater importance than the suppleness and elasticity of the same.

The substitute consists of loin wall strips that are glued together and covered with a rubber layer on one or both outer surfaces. The peculiarity of the invention is that the loin wall strips used are the canvas layers of the covers that remain after the bicycle covers have become unusable after vulcanization. These loin wall strips have hitherto been found to be irreversible during normal vulcanization using acids or the like.

However, it has been shown that the canvas of the bicycle cover is not only not damaged when using potassium cyanide and similar chemical substances to vulcanize the blankets, but also retains the rubber coating that was originally given to the canvas strips during the manufacture of the blankets, although a small one Amount of vulcanized rubber will stick to the canvas strips.

The substitute middle for leather is produced as a by-product of the abvutcanization of the bicycle covers by means of the canvas strips remaining behind with potassium cyanide by placing the strips on top of each other in a suitable number of layers and then pressing them together in the heat, whereupon the mass produced in this way with a layer of rubber, depending on the later application of the substitute, is coated either on both or only on the outside.
 EMI1.1
Manufacturing Give the substitute the shape of the object to be manufactured.

In special cases you can use insoles made of other materials, x. t! in such a way that a grain is completely covered with strips of canvas and then the core covered in this way is covered with a rubber coating.

The substitute has been used for the manufacture of saddles, e.g. H. Bicycle saddles, bicycles
