 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

In some of the previously known methods of preparing radium, the radium-containing material is treated with alkalis, either in aqueous form (curie) or in solid form with heating (ulcers and summer).

While in the first case the conversion of the insoluble radium compound into a

with caustic alkalis only the removal of part of the foreign matter from the radium-containing substance for the purpose.

If, however, the primary aim is to convert the radium into soluble form (carbonate) by heating the radium-containing substance with alkali carbonates, if necessary until it melts, several difficulties arise with this manipulation aimed at shortening the duration of the extraction process.

If iron vessels are used for this heating or melting:. As experiments have shown, the carbon of the iron partially reduces the radium sulfate contained in the substances to radium sulfate, which dissolves in the subsequent treatment of the contents of the vessel with water. From this solution, which otherwise represents a waste eye, the radium would have to be recovered, which would, however, complicate the representation process.

The more carbon-rich the boiler material, the greater the sulphide formation, which is quite noticeable with cast iron.

To eliminate this difficulty is the purpose of the present invention, according to which the heating of the material to be treated in an aos basic material, e.g. B. magnesite bricks, manufactured or lined with the same material equipment is made.
