Description

When smelting iron ores that contain titanium (e.g. in Upper Silesia), the titanium goes into the blast furnace slag and accumulates in one Part of the same, in the so-called blast furnace sow, in the form of copper-red cubes as cyan nitrogen titanium at.

This cyan nitrogen titanium for which as yet no safe formula could be set up, has not yet been processed on titanium, apparently because of this not because it is not worth mentioning either through acids or alkalis or in any other way is attacked. However, it is easy to convert this cyan nitrogen titanium into potassium titanate Transfer if you have it for a long time with soda and potash at higher temperatures (about 120 °) melts. By treatment with the usual soda and potash melt however, the cyan nitrogen titanium is not attacked. But if you only take it for this so much soda and potash that the whole mass can just become liquid, so solidified the melt in the form of long, narrow needles, which are mainly made of alkali titanates exist. Subsequent treatment with water can be used in this way Obtain hydrous titanic acid which, when annealed, yields pure white Ti 02. By treatment with strong acid, e.g. B. hydrochloric acid, the resulting titanic acid in salts, e.g. B. titanium tetrachloride, transfer.
