Device for displaying the movement of liquids in pressure lines by means of floating bodies movable in sight glasses.

The invention relates to a device which is used to indicate the movement of liquids in pressure lines or also in suction lines with simple aids in such a reliable way that failure of these aids is excluded. As is well known, this safety requirement has to be met in particular in the case of lubricators for automobile and airship engines. The new device is to be counted among those devices in which shear glasses are used in which floating bodies are housed. In the known devices of this type, these floating bodies consist of several interconnected and mutually actuating parts, but which can easily fail under the influence of unfavorable conditions.

In the new device, ordinary balls have been used as floating bodies, which are not subject to any changes and cannot give rise to disturbances.

In the drawing, the innovation in Fig. 1 and 2 is illustrated in vertical section. The arrangement of sight glasses on the lubricating devices in question is known per se. The individual sight glasses b are inserted and sealed in a suitable manner in the flanges a of the lubricating device in question. At the bottom an oil inlet pipe c opens into the glass b, while at the top an outlet pipe d in
 EMI1.1
usually on the mouth of the tube c. As soon as oil is pressed into the sight glass b, the balls e are driven upwards by the pressure of the oil entering from the tube c (Fig. 2). so that they lie against the outlet pipe.

When the pressure is stopped, the balls fall back down again to start this game again with the next pressure. In the arrangement according to FIG. 1, the outlet pipe d is closed at the bottom and provided with lateral holes f for the passage of the oil. If an outlet pipe d open at the bottom (FIG. 2) is to be used, notches g are made on its end face, which allow the oil to pass through even when the ball is located on top of the pipe d.
