Description

Process for cleaning or freshening up celluloid objects,
Acetyl cellulose masses and the like.

It is known that celluloid objects soon become unsightly when they are in use and that this can occur even if they are not used, simply by storing them for a long time. The process forming the subject of the invention now makes it possible in a technically simple and economically advantageous manner to easily clean celluloid objects and to give them the full appearance of new goods. This method can also be used for objects made from acetyl cellulose compounds and other celluloid substitutes.

The essence of the process is that the celluloid objects are immersed in English sulfuric acid for a short time at normal temperature, then washed with water, dried for a short time, then left to lie in strong alcohol and finally coated with camphor collodion. The incorporation in alcohol may possibly be omitted in some cases.

The procedure for carrying out the process is as follows: The objects are immediately immersed in English sulfuric acid for 1/4 minute at room temperature (approx. 200 C), without any preparatory treatment, so that their surface is wetted by the acid on all sides , then off

drying has to be repeated a second or more time until the goods have the smoothness and gloss of the completely new one again.

For even faster work one can probably omit the intermediate treatment with alcohol and shine and shine the product, freed of the adhering sulfuric acid after rinsing with water, after drying on the surface, which is finally to be done by rubbing with dry cloths, by painting over it with camphor colloid smooth.

Subsequent treatment with camphor colodium is necessary under all circumstances, since the objects pickled with H2SO4 become matt even after careful washing with water, N 113 or Na2 CO3 etc. and then absorb dirt particles all the more quickly and turn yellow.

Possible germs are also destroyed with certainty by the method described.
